How Gear Score Works in AION 2

Gear Score is basically your ticket into higher-level PvE content. Combat Power tells you more about how powerful your character actually is, but during early endgame progression, GS is what decides whether you can even enter the next dungeon.
Once you get to level 45 in AION 2, you'll start looking into increasing your Gear Score, because most of the harder content and better rewards are locked behind specific GS requirements. You already need 1,000 GS while progressing through the story to enter the Abyss, but after that, the two numbers I would pay the most attention to are 1,400 and 2,100 GS.
The important thing is that GS doesn't come only from the item level written on your gear. A bunch of other systems add to it too.
Here are the main ones you should care about while pushing toward 2,100:
|
GS Source |
Gear Score Gain |
|
Gear enhancement |
+1 GS per level |
|
Gray Manastone line |
+1 GS |
|
Green Manastone line |
+2 GS |
|
Blue Manastone line |
+3 GS |
|
Yellow Manastone line |
+4 GS |
|
Daevanion Point |
+1 GS |
|
Gray Arcana |
+20 GS |
|
Green Arcana |
+40 GS |
|
Blue Arcana |
+60 GS |
|
Unique Arcana |
+80 GS |
So you can’t really just use the Enhancement window to get to the desired GS number. If you're 15 or 20 points short, you might get those points much cheaper from Daevanion, Manastones, or Arcana than by tapping a bunch of temporary items. Until you get into later endgame, I would mostly think about it like this: GS gets you into the next piece of content. CP optimization comes after.
You can worry about perfect Soul Binding rolls, expensive Manastones, and other min-maxing later. Right now, the main goal is getting through the next requirement without wasting too many resources on gear you're about to replace.
AION 2 Gear Score Breakpoints

There are several GS requirements during progression, but not all of them are equally important.
These are the community-found numbers that I would keep in mind:
|
Gear Score |
What It Gives You |
|
1,000 GS |
Abyss/story progression |
|
1,400 GS |
2-star Conquest |
|
1,600 GS |
Transcendence Stage 1 |
|
1,900 GS |
Transcendence Stage 2 |
|
2,000 GS |
Important Hard Ascension Trial progression |
|
2,100 GS |
3-star Conquest |
At 1,400 GS, you unlock the 2-star Conquest dungeons Vakron Sky Island and Urugugu Canyon. This is the first point where I would seriously start spending Odyle on dungeon Cubes, because these runs can drop level 70 gear, which is a huge jump over the level 45–54 gear you get before that. Vakron Sky Island is especially useful for armor progression, while Urugugu Canyon gives you level 70 weapons and accessories. Both dungeons also give much better long-term value from their Conquest Cubes than the earlier Expeditions, so spending a lot of Odyle before 1,400 usually just means paying for gear you'll replace almost immediately.
The next major breakpoint is 2,100 GS, which unlocks Fire Temple and Ferocious Horn Den in 3-star Conquest. These dungeons move you up again to item level 86 gear. Fire Temple becomes one of your main sources for higher-tier weapons and accessories, while Ferocious Horn Den drops the Nuakum armor set and Guard. At this point, you're no longer just trying to inflate GS to enter the next dungeon. You're starting to replace your level 70 pieces with gear that can stay relevant much deeper into Season 1.
The others are more like checkpoints on the way there. You reach 1,600, unlock another source of GS through Arcana, then keep going. Same with 1,900 and 2,000.
How to Reach 1,000 Gear Score in AION 2
You don't really need to farm specifically for 1,000 GS. If you've been following the MSQ, equipping obvious upgrades, and doing some side content along the way, you should already be somewhere around this point when the story asks you to enter the Abyss.
By level 45, you already know that you must do all of your horizontal content so that you can hit the requirements for the next Ascension quest. It’s the same story with Gear Score. Once you’re stuck, the first thing you do is your horizontals.
I wouldn't spend much on leveling gear. Your weapon is worth taking to around +3 to +5, because that makes leveling smoother and doesn't cost much. I wouldn't go crazy beyond that on random gear you know you're going to replace.
If you're slightly below 1,000 GS when you need it, do this:
- Equip any better quest gear sitting in your bag.
- Spend your available Daevanion Points.
- Add cheap Manastones to your better pieces.
- Enhance one or two useful items if you're still short.
That's usually enough. Once you're past the Abyss story requirement, forget about 1,000. The real push starts now.
How to Reach 1,400 Gear Score in AION 2
This is the first breakpoint where I think it's very easy to waste a lot of resources for no reason.
Before you start spending Odyle, Enhance Stones, and Kinah on temporary gear, clear the horizontal content first.
Finish All Horizontal Content After Level 45
Once you hit level 45, go back and clean up the map.
You want to do:
- all remaining Seal Dungeons;
- all Strongholds;
- remaining Regional quests;
- Feathers for your Monolith;
- post-45 quests that reward equipment;
- the Hugo quest chain for your second bracelet;
- Seal Dungeons and Strongholds on the opposite faction map;
- Abyss Feathers.
This part takes a bit of time, but it's the cheapest part of your entire GS progression. A lot of these activities give you Daevanion Points or materials, and every Daevanion Point is another point of GS once you spend it. The opposite faction Seal Dungeons are especially useful because they also give a lot of Enhance Stones, and you'll need plenty of those very soon.
Go Through the Space-Time Rift
To clear the opposite faction map, you'll need to use the Space-Time Rift.
Once you're there, focus on:
- Seal Dungeons;
- Strongholds;
- Regional quests tied to that area.
You don't need to wander around farming random stuff. Just clear the progression content and get out. Also, be careful around guards. They’ll one-shot you, and dying sends you back outside the rift.

Finish Your Belt and Amulet Progression
The Belt and Amulet are two pieces I would happily invest into early because they stay relevant for much longer than normal quest gear. The reason is that the belt is actually the only belt in the game right now; you’re not getting another one. Instead, what you do is you enhance it and then upgrade to a higher grade level or rarity. The same is with the amulet.
The basic progression is:
- Enhance the Green version to +10.
- Unequip it.
- Open Substance Morph.
- Morph it into the Blue version.
- Take the Blue version to +10.
- Morph it into the Unique version.
Do this for both your Belt and Amulet. One small thing that causes problems here: the item has to be unequipped from every preset before you can morph it. Once you have the Unique version, stop there for now. You don't need to keep throwing resources into it just because you can.
Get Your Two Bracelets and Guard
You should also make sure you have both bracelets sorted. One comes through your post-45 Ascension progression, and the other comes from the longer Hugo Regional quest chain.
The Unique bracelet from Ascension is worth taking to +10, because you're going to keep it for quite a while. The second bracelet can also be enhanced if you need the GS. These are much better early investments than dumping Enhance Stones into every random armor piece from the story.
You’ll also get a unique Guard, which is the 3rd unique item on yoru character that you’ll get just by reaching the max level. This is also why you don’t need to open cubes in dungeons until you reach 1400GS. Although there are exceptions, which I’ll highlight later.
Don't Enhance Every Piece of Quest Gear
This is probably the most important thing to understand before 1,400. You do not need to take every Blue item to +5 or +10. Although enhancing to +10 is safe, you will get all enhancement stones if you extract your gear. It’s only when going above +10 when you start rolling a success chance, thus potentially wasting resources.
My priority for upgrading would be:
- Belt and Amulet.
- Unique bracelet.
- Unique Guard
- Daevanion Points.
- Cheap Manastones.
- Main quest weapon if needed.
- Other gear only if you're still short.
Your level 45 MSQ weapon is fine at around +5. You can take it higher if you need the GS, but I wouldn't automatically push it to +10 just because you can. Same with the Guard.
Use Manastones for Cheap GS
Manastones are one of the easiest ways to close the last part of the gap.
Each stat line gives:
- Gray: +1 GS
- Green: +2 GS
- Blue: +3 GS
- Yellow: +4 GS
At this point, I really don't care what perfect stats you get. If you roll some Green and Blue lines, that's already good enough. Use Lesser Manastones first. Intermediate ones are also fine if you need them, but I would save Superior Manastones for gear that you're actually going to keep. There is no point burning expensive stones trying to make a temporary quest item look perfect.
Spend All of Your Daevanion Points
If you're trying to reach 1,400 and you have Daevanion Points sitting there unspent, spend them. Every point gives you 1 GS. It doesn't matter if the node itself is amazing for your build or not. You're still getting the Gear Score from the points you put into the board. You'll get a lot of these naturally from horizontal content, but there are also extra sources through:
- Shugo;
- Nightmare;
- Regional content;
- other progression rewards.
Later on, you'll care much more about where those points go.

Collect Abyss Feathers
Don't forget the Abyss Monolith either. There are a lot of Feathers in the Abyss, and progressing the Monolith gives you another chunk of GS. This is exactly the kind of thing that can save you from tapping another ten pieces of gear. If you're sitting around 1,330 or 1,350 GS after finishing most of the normal map, go check how much Abyss progression you're still missing.
Of course, nobody says collecting feathers in the Abyss will be easy. It’s an open-PvP location, so depending on the time of day, you might get farmed for trying. Or maybe it could be safe. It’s still worth trying. Besides, you’re not really losing anything when you die. So, keep trying! Oh, and here’s an AION 2 Abyss guide if you need a little more info on how this location works. It’s pretty unique! That’s also where you’ll realize that raising gear score really matters.
Should You Open Dungeon Cubes Before 1,400?
Personally, I would avoid it as much as possible. What makes AION 2 kind of special in this regard is that you don’t really want to run dungeons as soon as they become available. It’s all because opening the final reward chest (cube) wastes Odyle. It’s all explained in my AION 2 Dungeons guide. Coming soon.
The problem with most lower-level dungeon rewards is that you're about to replace them. For example, you might spend a lot of Odyle getting a piece that looks great right now, then enter 2-star Conquest and replace it almost immediately with level 70 gear. The quest also doesn't always require you to open the Cube. In many cases, you only need to finish the dungeon. So if you're trying to be efficient, just clear it and save the Odyle.
The route I recommend is: Horizontals → Daevanion → Belt/Amulet → Manastones → small enhancements → 1,400
That lets you unlock 2-star Conquest with most of your Odyle still available.
There is an alternative if you don't care about squeezing maximum value out of every point of Odyle. You can use Exploration pity rewards to guarantee a big armor upgrade and make the 1,400 push easier. It works. You'll simply have less Odyle available once the better rewards open up. So if you want the fastest and easiest route, that's an option.
What If You're Still Below 1,400?
If you've finished the map and you're still short, don't panic and start throwing resources everywhere.
Go through this list:
- Spend every Daevanion Point you still have.
- Make sure your good pieces have Manastones.
- Replace terrible all-Gray Manastone rolls if you can cheaply get better ones.
- Finish Abyss Feather progression.
- Check Shugo and Nightmare for more Daevanion progression.
- Enhance useful pieces a few more times.
- Push your MSQ weapon or Guard a little higher if needed.
There's no reason to sit at 1,399 trying to find the mathematically perfect upgrade. Get to 1,400, because that's where the better progression starts.

What to Do at 1,400 Gear Score
Once you reach 1,400 GS, stop spending resources on random quest gear and start farming 2-star Conquest. This is the first point where I think opening dungeon Cubes becomes genuinely worth the Odyle, because Vakron Sky Island and Urugugu Canyon can drop level 70 gear that will carry you through the next several GS breakpoints. I recommend starting with Vakron Sky Island.
The reason is simple: its loot pool is easier to turn into immediate upgrades. You want to replace as much of your old quest armor as possible before moving your Odyle elsewhere. Urugugu Canyon is also important, especially for weapons and accessories, but early on Vakron usually gives you a cleaner progression path.
Your plan at 1,400 should be:
- Start running Vakron Sky Island Conquest.
- Open the Cube after each run and look for level 70 upgrades.
- Keep farming until most of your armor slots have been replaced.
- Only then start putting more Odyle into Urugugu Canyon for the remaining slots.
- Enhance the useful level 70 pieces you get instead of spending more on the old quest gear.
If you have an Exploration pity reward that lets you select a specific piece, don't immediately take whatever looks best. Run Conquest first. You might naturally drop that exact piece, and then you've basically wasted a guaranteed selector on a duplicate. The better order is: Random Conquest drops first → guaranteed selector second. Once you already know which slot refuses to drop, use the Exploration reward to fill that gap. You don't need to complete an entire Vakron set before touching Urugugu. I would move over once most of the obvious armor upgrades are already covered and your weapon or accessories are now holding your GS back. As a rough target, getting around six or seven useful Vakron pieces before shifting more attention to Urugugu is perfectly reasonable. From there, you use both dungeons to fill the remaining level 70 slots.
What to Do at 1,600 Gear Score
At 1,600 GS, you unlock Transcendence Stage 1, and this should immediately become your next priority. Don't just keep dumping Odyle into Conquest without doing this. Transcendence gives you Arcana cards, and Arcana adds a huge amount of GS compared to another few enhancement levels. You need to run both:
- Deus Research Base
- Shattered Arkanis
They don't have the same Arcana pool, so running only one of them can leave some of your slots empty. At Stage 1, your goal is not getting perfect cards. Your goal is simply: fill all five Arcana slots. Even Gray Arcana gives 20 GS each, so filling five slots gives you another 100 GS almost immediately. If you get Green Arcana, even better. Green gives 40 GS.
At this point, don't worry too much about:
- perfect Arcana skills;
- ideal combinations;
- set bonuses;
- min-maxed stats.
Just equip the highest-rarity Arcana you have. Once all five slots are filled, go back to farming 2-star Conquest.
How to Reach 1,900 Gear Score
From around 1,600–1,700 GS, progression becomes much more about filling your remaining level 70 slots and improving the gear you already have. This part can be a bit annoying because RNG starts mattering more. You might get several upgrades in a row, or spend a lot of Odyle waiting for one missing slot. Here's what I recommend doing:
- Keep farming Vakron Sky Island for missing armor.
- Run Urugugu Canyon for weapons and accessories.
- Fill every Arcana slot from Stage 1 Transcendence.
- Take useful level 70 gear toward +10.
- Put Lesser or Intermediate Manastones into those pieces.
- Keep buying extra Daevanion progression from Shugo and Nightmare.
- Use Exploration selectors to fill slots that refuse to drop.
By this point, enhancing gear starts making much more sense. These level 70 pieces aren't getting replaced after one quest anymore, so taking useful gear to +10 is fine. I still wouldn't start using Superior Manastones, though. Lesser Manastones are enough for GS. Intermediate ones are also reasonable if you're struggling to hit the next requirement.
Use Shugo and Nightmare Dungeons for Guaranteed GS
If dungeon RNG is bad, don't forget that Daevanion gives you guaranteed progression. Keep doing Shugo and Nightmare Dungeons, then use the relevant currencies to buy more Daevanion progression. Nightmare is especially useful because you should keep pushing higher boss difficulties for first-clear rewards instead of sitting on the same easy stage. You also want to keep an eye on your Duties. If you see rewards such as:
- Odyle;
- Shugo entries or keys;
- Nightmare tickets;
Those are usually the ones I would prioritize because they directly feed back into your GS progression.
What If You're Stuck Before 1,900?
Go through your character slot by slot. Check:
- Are you still wearing low-item-level armor?
- Are you missing Arcana slots?
- Are useful level 70 items still sitting at +0?
- Do some pieces still have no Manastones?
- Do you have unspent Daevanion Points?
- Can you buy more Daevanion progression from Nightmare or Shugo?
- Have you already used your Exploration selector intelligently?
Usually, the missing GS is spread across several small things rather than one huge upgrade.
What to Do at 1,900 Gear Score
At 1,900 GS, you unlock Transcendence Stage 2. This time, you're not just filling Arcana slots. You're looking for Blue Arcana. Stage 2 gives you a much better chance of replacing the Gray and Green cards you picked up earlier. The GS difference is large:
- Gray Arcana: 20 GS
- Green Arcana: 40 GS
- Blue Arcana: 60 GS
So replacing one Gray card with a Blue one is already another 40 GS. That means a few Blue Arcana can move your GS much faster than another pile of small gear enhancements. Again, run both Deus Research Base and Shattered Arkanis, because their Arcana pools cover different slots. Don't start chasing perfect Blue Arcana yet. If a Blue card fits the slot, equip it.
How to Reach 2,000 Gear Score
The push from 1,900 to 2,000 is mostly about squeezing more value out of systems you're already using. Your main sources are:
- Blue Arcana from Transcendence Stage 2;
- remaining level 70 gear upgrades;
- +10 enhancements;
- Daevanion Points;
- Manastone lines.
This is also where I would start checking your weakest slots instead of blindly running the same dungeon. If most of your armor is already level 70 but your accessories are bad, spend more Odyle on Urugugu Canyon. If you're still missing armor, keep doing Vakron Sky Island. If all your gear is decent but you're missing GS, focus more on:
- Arcana;
- Daevanion;
- enhancements;
- Manastones.
You don't need a perfect character to hit 2,000. You just need enough progression spread across all of these systems. Once you reach 2,000 GS, there's another very important shortcut.
What to Do at 2,000 Gear Score
At 2,000 GS, you can use Hard Ascension Trial progression to work toward a Unique Chalice of Vigor. This is worth doing because a Unique Arcana gives 80 GS, and the Chalice is normally one of the harder Arcana slots to improve naturally. You need 5 Mysterious Crystals.
The route is:
- Run Hard Ascension Trial.
- Reach the required seasonal score milestones.
- Get 3 Mysterious Crystals from the relevant Trial season rewards.
- Buy 1 Mysterious Crystal from the Season Shop.
- Get 1 Mysterious Crystal through Arcana extraction.
- Use all five to craft your Unique Chalice of Vigor.
For Arcana extraction, consume spare cards you're no longer using until you fill the extraction progress and get the Crystal. I would only buy one Crystal from the Season Shop for this.
Why Craft Chalice of Vigor
The main reason is that the Chalice is one of the harder slots to upgrade naturally at this point. Crafting a Unique one gives you a large GS jump immediately instead of waiting for much later Transcendence progression. For the additional skill effect, pick one important skill for your class. Don't add a second skill yet. The cost jumps massively, and this still isn't your final Arcana. You're using it to accelerate your progression toward 2,100. Once the Unique Chalice is equipped, you're in the final stretch.
How to Reach 2,100 Gear Score
At this point, there isn't another secret system you need to unlock. You just need to finish the job.
Go through these in order:
- Replace any remaining low-item-level gear.
- Keep farming Blue Arcana from Transcendence Stage 2.
- Equip your Unique Chalice of Vigor.
- Take useful level 70 gear to +10.
- Spend remaining Daevanion Points.
- Buy more Daevanion progression from Shugo and Nightmare if available.
- Add or improve cheap Manastone rolls.
- Use any remaining Exploration selector on the slot you still can't replace.
If you're only a few points short, this is also where I don't mind using a slightly less efficient source just to cross the line. There is no reason to sit at 2,095 waiting for the perfect drop when five cheap GS gets you into the next tier of content.
What to Do at 2,100 Gear Score
Once you hit 2,100 GS, you unlock the 3-star Conquest dungeons:
- Fire Temple
- Ferocious Horn Den
This is the point where you start replacing your level 70 gear with the next tier of equipment.
These dungeons can drop item level 86 gear, which is why getting to 2,100 matters so much. You're not pushing the number just for the sake of having more GS. You're unlocking another major jump in the quality of gear you can farm.
Your first dungeon should depend on which slots are still weak.
If you're still using an old weapon or weak accessories, Fire Temple becomes very important.
If your armor and Guard need replacing, Ferocious Horn Den gives you another path forward.
From this point, I would also start thinking more about actual item quality rather than only GS.
That means:
- better Soul Binding stats;
- proper Manastone stats;
- higher-tier Manastones;
- Amplification;
- crafted long-term gear;
- transferring progress into better drops.
Before 2,100, I mostly want the number.
After 2,100, I start caring much more about whether the item itself is actually good.

F.A.Q.
What is the fastest way to increase Gear Score in AION 2?
The fastest way is to combine several GS sources instead of relying only on gear enhancement. I recommend using Daevanion Points, Manastones, Belt and Amulet progression, Arcana, and higher-item-level drops together, then only enhancing gear when you still need a few extra points.
Should I spend Odyle before reaching 1,400 GS?
I would avoid spending too much Odyle before 1,400 GS because most early dungeon gear gets replaced very quickly. Saving it for Vakron Sky Island and Urugugu Canyon in 2-star Conquest gives you much better value because these dungeons drop level 70 gear.
Which dungeon should I farm first at 1,400 Gear Score?
I recommend starting with Vakron Sky Island because its loot pool is easier to turn into immediate armor upgrades. Once most of your armor slots are covered, move more of your Odyle into Urugugu Canyon for weapons and accessories.
What should I do if I am stuck below 1,900 or 2,100 GS?
Check the smaller GS sources first before waiting for one lucky drop. Make sure all Arcana slots are filled, useful level 70 gear is enhanced, Manastones are equipped, Daevanion Points are spent, and Shugo or Nightmare rewards have been used for extra progression.
What should I do after reaching 2,100 Gear Score?
At 2,100 GS, you can start farming Fire Temple and Ferocious Horn Den in 3-star Conquest. From there, the focus starts shifting from simply increasing GS to replacing level 70 gear with item level 86 equipment and improving things like Soul Binding, better Manastones, and Amplification.
