Complete WARDOGS Building Guide Quick Summary:
- Building is one of the main systems that separates WARDOGS from other tactical FPS games.
- FOBs give your team a protected spawn area, a supply hub, and a way to control Hotzone pressure.
- Builders rely on different hammer types, and each one unlocks different structure options and build speeds.
- Most serious construction happens around an FOB, while smaller defensive tools can be placed more freely.
- Strong building is not just about placing walls. It also depends on supply management, smart FOB placement, and team protection.
WARDOGS gameplay is heavily tied to cash you make in-game. It’s nowhere near the extraction shooter levels, but it’s not unheard of to spend all your money on an expensive loadout just to drop dead seconds later. If you want to avoid anxiety from losing money, try our WARDOGS Cash boost and get as much money as you need.

How Building Works in WARDOGS

Building is an essential part of WARDOGS and is one of the key elements that makes everything click. Without builders, you either won’t win or it’ll be the sweatiest match of all time. Builders create FOBs (Forward Operating Bases). FOBs are key to victory in many ways:
- Protection to Spawn Vehicle: Just like in Battlefield, you can spawn in vehicles. Usually, people put a vehicle behind a fortified FOB for their teammates to spawn in the heat of the battle, instead of waiting for a Little Bird Taxi at the initial spawn point.
- Supply Camp: FOB stores ammo, fuel, vehicle repair stuff, and building resources needed to expand and protect the Operating Base. It doesn’t resupply itself, so it’s your logistics player's task to bring more resources to it.
- Draws a Hotzone to It: If you buy a large hammer, you can build a drill rig that attracts a Hotzone to its location, as long as you have enough fuel to keep it running. You can also hack towers by inputting codes into them to immediately attract a Hotzone to your location.
If you are confused by all the terms you see here, check out our WARDOGS Beginner’s guide, cause if I explain every single thing as we go along, this article will be much longer than it needs to be. What I wanted to say with this section is that you need to protect your builders cause they’re doing the dirty work. That’s not to say they can’t protect themselves, cause they can build mortars, CIWS, and AA launchers. Basically, an FOB is your fort that you hold and protect for as long as you can, so be sure to take your best guns with you.
Building, much like every other gameplay element in WARDOGS, brings you class points. To be more specific, Support class points, so if you thought that you won’t unlock anything because you don’t kill other players, worry not. In any case, FOBs attract the enemy team like it’s a flame to moths, so you’ll have your own fair share of kills.
How to Build in WARDOGS
Now let me explain how to build stuff. An in-game tutorial explains it pretty decently for you to learn the ropes, but in case you clicked through it, you’ll find this section useful. As a builder, you can create barriers and infantry protection by putting up sandbags, but it’s not really building, it’s closer to using a field upgrade in COD. You’re pretty limited if you don’t build around the FOB area. Here’s a step-by-step building guide for WARDOGS, read and learn:
- Buy an FOB: To start building something serious, you first need to set up an FOB. You can purchase it from a vendor in the Equipment tab, under Building. You need to equip it from your inventory, and then set it up in any place you deem fit. By default, FOB contains a Medium and a Small hammer, two wrenches for vehicle repair, signal grenades for supply requests and for indicating a landing zone, and bandages for quick healing.
- Buy a Hammer: Small, Medium, or Large hammers can build different types of buildings. Large hammer can obviously build it all, a Medium hammer can build Large and Basic buildables, and a Small hammer can only build basic stuff that you don’t always need an FOB for. They also differ in speed, with Large being the fastest for building.
- Choose a Structure: Click the right mouse button to open a menu where you can select a thing you want to build. Underneath it, you’ll see how many building supplies the building will use.
- Place the Structure: Once placed, exit the building menu and start hitting it with your hammer. You’ll see that it’s quite a slow process, but if you look around, you’ll also notice that there are yellow Xs on the building. Hit them to speed up the process significantly.
- Repeat Until Done: That’s it. You just place stuff, hit it till it’s done, and maintain the supplies.
Building, while being simple, is quite a mesmerizing process. You always have something to do and someone to help as a builder, so it’s a very fun role, despite sounding boring on paper. Plus, it’s a very easy and safe way to make money. I recommend you try it.

Try placing your FOBs somewhere where it makes sense. Usually a bit removed from the battlefield. Otherwise, you spend your resources in vain, and no one comes to see your cool fort.

F.A.Q
How do you build in WARDOGS?
To start building properly, you first need to buy and place an FOB. After that, equip a hammer, open the build menu with right-click, choose a structure, place it, and hit it until construction is complete. Hitting the yellow X markers speeds the process up a lot.
What does an FOB do in WARDOGS?
An FOB acts as the core of your team’s field base. It protects vehicle spawn setups, stores supplies like ammo, fuel, repairs, and building materials, and can also become a strategic hotspot if you use features like the Drill Rig.
What’s the difference between hammers in WARDOGS?
WARDOGS has Small, Medium, and Large hammers. Small hammers build only basic structures, Medium hammers handle basic and large buildables, and Large hammers can build everything while also working the fastest.
What structures need an FOB in WARDOGS?
Most major structures require an FOB, including HESCO pieces, gates, bunkers, towers, refuel and repair stations, mortars, CIWS, Talon, Stingray, and the Drill Rig. Only a few smaller items, like Recon Tents, Hedgehogs, Barbed Wire, and Sandbags, can be built without one.
What are the best first buildings to build at an FOB?
A good first setup usually focuses on protection and utility. That means basic cover, access control, and defensive walls first, then moving into bigger investments like towers, bunkers, refuel or repair stations, and heavier weapons if your team can protect the FOB.
