How to Unlock Weapons in WARDOGS

WARDOGS is doing a lot of things differently from other contemporary FPS games. There are no strict classes, and it’s not an extraction shooter, but it borrows some mechanics from the genre. All of this creates difficulty in understanding some of the core aspects of the game. That’s why I’ve decided to explain how to unlock weapons, vehicles, and gadgets in WARDOGS.

Learn How to Unlock Weapons in WARDOGS

WARDOGS Weapon Unlocks Quick Summary:

  • WARDOG level increases from basically everything you do and unlocks general gear, pistols, ammo types, some vehicles, and other items
  • Assault unlocks assault rifles and weapon attachments
  • Medic unlocks SMGs, healing gear, smoke grenades, and faster revive tools
  • Recon unlocks sniper rifles, DMRs, long-range scopes, the bow, ghillie suit, and spotting gear
  • Support unlocks LMGs, shotguns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, mines, repair tools, and FOB equipment
  • Classes do not restrict your loadout. You can mix items from several tracks at once

Unlocking a weapon is only half the deal. You gotta have enough money to buy it in a match, so why not check out our WARDOGS Cash boost? Forget any money problems, at least until reset hits the servers.

WARDOGS Weapon Unlock System Overview

WARDOGS splits progression between your overall WARDOG level and six separate class tracks. Your general level is easy to gain cause virtually every significant action gives you XP. Some general equipment unlocks are tied to this level, such as ammo types, pistols, vehicles, and armor, so you’ll unlock them naturally. The best weapons, though, come from 6 class tracks:

  1. Assault: Assault rifles and general weapon attachments
  2. Support: LMGs, shotguns, launchers, mines, repair tools, and FOB items
  3. Medic: SMGs, healing equipment, smoke grenades, and revive gear
  4. Recon: Sniper rifles, DMRs, long-range scopes, spotting tools, bow, and ghillie suit
  5. Driver: Vehicles, supply cases, and cassettes
  6. Pilot: Helicopters, supply cases, and cassettes

Beware, these are not your typical shooter classes. You are not locked into any of them. No one forbids you from buying a sniper rifle with defibs or an LMG and a rocket launcher. The freedom of choice is the priority in Wardogs. Unlike a certain other all-out warfare game that bullies you into only using ARs with an Assault class, or you’re risking being left without a class bonus. If you ever feel confused by what you’re leveling, check the icon on the item. Hover over it, and it’ll tell you which class gets the XP.

Best WARDOGS Classes to Level for Weapon Unlocks

If your goal is to just unlock as many weapons as possible, you should prioritize only certain classes. Case in point: Driver and Pilot. Unless you’re planning to play as a hot zone taxi driver all the time, I don’t recommend picking them as first priorities. Here are the best WARDOGS classes for faster weapon unlocks:

  1. Assault: Most straightforward. If you need rifles and gun attachments, level this class and call it a day
  2. Support: Objectively the best overall unlock track. You get LMGs, shotguns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, mines, and anti-vehicle stuff. Lots of good stuff for a game that has vehicle warfare as one of its key selling points
  3. Medic: Don’t mix it up. Support and Medic are different classes. You unlock SMGs with it, plus some healing gadgets. One of the easier classes to progress
  4. Recon: Unlocks stuff that lets you paint vehicles and spot other infantry. You also get tons of sniper rifles and scopes for all kinds of weapons, but I wouldn’t recommend grinding it first.
  5. Pilot: Slightly better than Driver cause Little Birds are the main way to travel to the objectives after you die
  6. Driver: Same as Pilot but for ground vehicles

I’d rank Assault and Support as the first unlock tracks you want to focus on, as they reward you with lots of options to deal with infantry and vehicles, as well as unlock new features for building if you play as Support. Assault is better if you just want to play casually. Medic and Recon are also good, but both can be done while you level Assault and Support. Driver and Pilot aren’t your first-level priorities, as you won’t be shooting a whole lot while behind the wheel.

Some unlocks are great on their own, but they become truly brilliant once you equip them in the right loadouts. The first thing you wanna go for to enrich your loadouts is upgrading Assault. It is probably the easiest class to understand. Shoot people with the weapons tied to it, and you get more weapons of the same type. Not much to add there. Support is the deepest and most varied, as you can level it through combat, but you can also build FOBs and destroy vehicles (so, pretty much everything the game has to offer). As a Medic, you progress by reviving and healing your teammates and shooting with SMGs, so even if you don’t have the best aim one day, you can still progress it by helping other people. Recon is in a weird place. As counterintuitive as it may sound, your best option to level it is by spotting enemies. The basic sniper rifle is pretty uninspiring, and spotting is much safer, and it’s also one of the best ways to earn cash and actually helps your team in more ways than just killing enemies.

How Cash Works with Weapon Unlocks

During the first beta, this was the part that left most people confused. Leveling the required track unlocks access to the item, but you need enough cash to buy the right to purchase it. What I’m saying is that once you unlock a new toy, you don’t get immediate access to it. You need to buy permanent access to this thing to be able to buy it in-game with no limits. This sounds overly complicated to read, but once you do that in WARDOGS, you’ll realize that it’s pretty interesting and keeps the core gameplay loop of getting money all the more gripping. You make money from quite a few things:

  • Kills
  • Healing
  • Reviving
  • Spotting
  • Building FOBs
  • Transporting teammates
  • Delivering supplies
  • Staying in the combat zone
  • Fighting in the hot zone

As many players have noticed, spotting is the safest money maker out of all of these options. Mark enemies from safe positions and let your team kill them to get cash and assist XP without ever risking your loadout. In case you don’t know, if you die, you have to spend money to buy a new loadout. This is a great and budget-friendly way to stay useful without draining your account.

F.A.Q

How do you unlock weapons in WARDOGS?

Most weapons are unlocked by leveling class-specific progression tracks. Assault unlocks assault rifles, Medic unlocks SMGs, Recon unlocks sniper rifles and DMRs, and Support unlocks LMGs, shotguns, and launchers. Some general items are tied to your overall WARDOG level instead.

What is the fastest class to level in WARDOGS?

Assault is probably the simplest cause you mostly just need kills. Medic is also easy to progress because SMG kills, healing, and reviving all give XP. If you want steady progress without relying on gunfights, Medic is the safer choice.

What is the easiest class to level in WARDOGS?

It’s the Medic. You can level it by healing and reviving your teammates. Simply stay around the squads that hold a position and revive them ad nauseam, while also throwing in supplies. Recon is another easy class to level and gain money.

What's the best class to level first in WARDOGS?

I consider Support to be the best and most reliable class in the game. It gives you access to gadgetry that’s useful in every aspect of the game, whether it’s fighting infantry, building bases, or attacking enemy vehicles.

What’s the best class to make money in WARDOGS?

Recon is the best option, cause it’s the only class that lets you farm money without getting into harm’s way. Just lie down somewhere safe and mark enemies with your binoculars.

Do WARDOGS classes restrict what weapons you can use?

No. Classes are progression tracks, not fixed loadouts. You can mix gear from different classes however you want, as long as you have the items unlocked and enough cash to buy them.
