The Unbinding of Kith’ix Raid Overview

The Unbinding of Kith’ix is a single-boss raid introduced with Patch 12.1.5. You fight the C’Thraxxi general Kith’ix alongside Lady Liadrin, who actively helps your raid survive several of his mechanics. The raid is available on Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic Flex difficulties.

The encounter has two phases. Phase 1 repeats between Voidswarm add waves and Suffocating Darkness until Kith’ix reaches 25% HP. Phase 2 is a short burn where you need to kill him before Eightfold Eclipse wipes the raid.

The fight gets harder every time you repeat Phase 1 because Lady Liadrin gains Exhausted after clearing Suffocating Darkness. It weakens her protection and makes future darkness phases more dangerous. Your DPS does matter even before the final burn.

Kith’ix Phase 1 Strategy

Phase 1 starts with Voidswarm, which deals raid damage and summons three types of Aqir adds. These enemies need to be moved away from Kith’ix because his Commanding Presence greatly reduces the damage nearby adds take.

At this point, your DPS priority should be like that:

  1. Voidweavers
  2. Mindstinger Eggs on Heroic
  3. Venomous Hulk

One tank should keep Kith’ix away from the add group. The second one picks up the Venomous Hulk.

Voidswarm Adds

Voidweavers are stationary and should die first. Their Nightfall deals ramping raid-wide damage. If they stay alive for too long, you’ll notice their presence and the raid becomes very painful. They can also apply Voidweave to random players. This adds even more damage during mechanic overlaps.

The easiest way to deal with the pack is to bring the Venomous Hulk onto the first Voidweaver and cleave both. Once the Voidweaver dies, move the Hulk onto the second one. The Hulk also casts Venom Roar, a frontal attack that deals heavy tank damage and knocks players back. Face it away from the raid. Movement abilities or knockback prevention help here. Also, things like Leap of Faith or Rescue can save the tank after the hit if needed.

Then you have Bomber Beetles, which fixate players and explode when they touch anyone. Their Gut Reaction applies a stacking four-second DoT to the raid. Triggering all of them together can be enough to leave your healers useless, and they won’t outheal that.

They’re fully CCable. Root or otherwise control them, then have players intentionally trigger one Beetle at a time once the previous DoT has fallen off. Death Knight grips are great here because you can simply grip a Beetle onto yourself and instantly detonate it.

Heroic Mindstinger Eggs

On Heroic, Voidweavers and Venomous Hulks gain Incubation and drop Mindstinger Eggs when they die. Each Voidweaver creates two Eggs and the Hulk creates four. You gotta kill these right away. If an Egg hatches, it creates a Mindstinger that can put a DoT and a five-second stun on random players.

The good news is that Kith’ix’s Commanding Presence doesn’t protect Eggs. It means once the actual adds are dead, you can bring Kith’ix closer and cleave the Eggs together with the boss.

Extinguish, Horrors, and Tank Swaps

Outside of the adds, there are three mechanics I want you to know about throughout Phase 1.

Extinguish deals massive Shadow damage to the entire raid. Lady Liadrin creates Light’s Embrace orbs shortly before it happens. Run through one to gain 90% Shadow damage reduction for up to eight seconds, which lets you safely survive the hit. Don’t ignore the orb because you think your defensive is enough. You may survive early Extinguish without it, but Liadrin’s protection gets weaker as the fight continues.

Unspeakable Horrors marks several players and turns into Overwhelming Fear after six seconds. Marked players should move away from the raid before healers dispel them because the resulting damage is reduced by distance. This is how I’d dispel here:

  1. First player moves out and gets dispelled
  2. Heal the raid
  3. Dispel the second player

You’ll also see Twisted Appendage aiming frontal attacks toward players. Just dodge the marked areas. There’s already enough raid damage going around without eating one of these. For tanks, Dark Devastation creates a 15-yard hit around the current tank and applies Devastated, increasing Physical and Shadow damage taken by 150% for 25 seconds.

The swap may occasionally be delayed if the second tank is still busy with a Venomous Hulk. You gotta communicate instead of automatically taunting at the worst possible moment.

Suffocating Darkness Strategy

At 100 Energy, Kith’ix casts Suffocating Darkness, and most of the arena becomes deadly. Lady Liadrin creates Refulgent Bulwark, and that gives you a safe area around her. The only rule here is that you kill every add before Suffocating Darkness begins.

Any surviving Aqir becomes empowered with Dark Frenzy. It’ll gain 100% attack and movement speed, become immune to CC, and deal additional raid damage. Once the darkness closes in, stay inside Liadrin’s barrier and continue dealing damage with Extinguish, Horrors, Twisted Appendages, and tank mechanics.

A new mechanic called Abyssal Grasp also targets players with a healing absorb and slowly pulls them toward the darkness. Healers need to remove the absorb quickly. If it remains for eight seconds, the player gets dragged out of the barrier.

When Liadrin reaches 100 Energy, she casts Divine Radiance, removes Suffocating Darkness, and stuns Kith’ix for eight seconds. Use that window for free boss damage. Then, Phase 1 starts again. The catch is Exhausted. Every Divine Radiance weakens Light’s Embrace and Refulgent Bulwark while increasing future Suffocating Darkness damage by 10%. This stacks, and you don’t want four or five rotations if you can avoid them.

Heroic Voidscar Strategy

Heroic adds one important mechanic to Dark Devastation. Every tank hit leaves a Voidscar on the floor. When Suffocating Darkness begins, those Voidscars send Eclipse Fragments toward Lady Liadrin.

If a Fragment reaches her, it damages the raid and shrinks Refulgent Bulwark. Instead, a player needs to intercept it first. Doing so applies a short stacking DoT to the soaker and anyone within three yards.

I would have tanks place the first few Voidscars fairly close to each other. Then, during the darkness phase, one tank can sweep through the Fragments and soak several of them. Ideally, use the tank without Devastated, since that debuff increases Shadow damage taken.

Kith’ix Phase 2 Strategy

Phase 2 begins immediately at 25% HP. Kith’ix transitions into the final stage and absorbs his remaining minions and Phase 1 mechanics. Lady Liadrin fully heals the raid and grants Luminous Grace, currently increasing damage by 50% and healing by 50%. This is where I recommend using Bloodlust, Heroism, Time Warp, potions, and remaining offensive cooldowns.

At the same time, Kith’ix begins Eightfold Eclipse. Each Eclipse damages the raid, and once the final one completes, everyone dies. Phase 2 is basically a race to burn the last 25% of his health before the hard enrage.

Null Gates and Nullshards

Null Gate targets players and creates portals at their locations after a short delay. Don’t drop them on other players. Once active, every Gate starts firing Nullshards across the arena. Getting hit applies Nullify, a stacking DoT that eventually becomes lethal. There are two ways to place Gates, but I prefer keeping Kith’ix stationary and assigning different areas around the boss.

  • Melee drop close to Kith’ix
  • Healers use one side of the room
  • Ranged use the opposite side

I wouldn’t plan around how many shards you’re technically allowed to eat. Just avoid them.

Negation for Tanks

Tanks gain Negation during Phase 2 instead of Dark Devastation. Swap immediately when one tank gets it. The affected tank then needs to run through a Null Gate. This removes Negation, destroys the Gate, and clears nearby Nullshards, but also creates Explosive Restabilization, which hits players within 15 yards.

Use a defensive before clearing the debuff and make sure melee players aren’t standing beside you. I wouldn’t try to line up multiple Gates for one giant clear. The radius isn’t worth the trouble. Delete whichever Gate is causing the biggest problem for the raid and get back to the boss.

Kith’ix Tips for Tanks, Healers, and DPS

As always, I’ve got several important tips for each role during the raid:

Role

Tips

Tanks

Separate boss and adds, cleave Hulk into Voidweavers, swap after Dark Devastation, place Heroic Voidscars carefully, clear Negation through Null Gates

Healers

Stagger fear dispels, remove Abyssal Grasp quickly, watch Beetle explosions and Fragment soakers

DPS

Kill Voidweavers first, swap to Heroic Eggs, make sure all adds die before Suffocating Darkness, save major cooldowns for 25%

Also, leave Bloodlust for Phase 2 anyway. This is the safest choice to finish the raid successfully, and you can stack it perfectly with Luminous Grace. Yet if your raid consistently reaches 25% with plenty of Phase 2 damage but struggles during a later Phase 1 cycle, using Bloodlust earlier can also make sense.

F.A.Q.

How to beat Kith’ix in WoW Midnight?

To beat Kith’ix, keep Voidswarm adds away from the boss, kill Voidweavers first, and make sure every add is dead before Suffocating Darkness begins. At 25% HP, use Bloodlust with Luminous Grace, place Null Gates away from the group, dodge Nullshards, and burn Kith’ix before Eightfold Eclipse wipes the raid.

Is Kith’ix difficult?

Kith’ix is generally easy to take down on Normal difficulty, but the fight becomes much harder on Heroic. The reason for this is Mindstinger Eggs and Voidscar Fragments that add extra DPS checks, positioning, and soak assignments.

What is the Kith’ix add kill priority?

Your main priority is Voidweavers first. You’ll also cleave the Venomous Hulk into them whenever possible. On Heroic, kill Mindstinger Eggs immediately after they spawn and CC Bomber Beetles.

When should you use Bloodlust on Kith’ix?

The best Bloodlust timing is at 25% HP when Phase 2 begins. It lines up with Luminous Grace and lets your raid use every major offensive cooldown during the final burn before Eightfold Eclipse reaches its lethal cast.

What does Kith’ix drop?

Kith’ix can drop cantrip armor for every armor type, two swords, Band of the Swarmcaller, and tank, healer, and DPS trinkets.
