How Does Turbulent Timeways Work

Turbulent Timeways is a very simple event whose job is to just make your Timewalking dungeons way more profitable in terms of earning experience. So, if you happen to level up your new alt during this event, you can just play Timewalking dungeons for as long as Turbulent Timeways is active and you’ll get a massive experience boost.

In other words, during this event, your character gets a stacking buff for XP as you complete Timewalking dungeons back to back. If you keep doing this for multiple weeks, you’re going to get an achievement and a mount. But more on that later.

The upcoming event is called Turbulent Timeways V, and it will run from June 30th to August 11th, 2026. That makes it a 6-week-long event.

I found out that the simplest way to memorize what the Turbulent Timeways event does is by remembering two things:

  1. Knowledge of Timeways - an experience buff that you get for completing a Timewalking dungeon during Turbulent Timeways. The buff lasts 2 hours, doesn’t expire on death, and its duration is preserved while you’re not in the game. It adds a 5% XP boost for killing monsters and completing quests tied to those dungeons. Completing more dungeons with this buff active gives you stacks that make the buff better.
  2. Mastery of Timeways is a better version of Knowledge of Timeways, which you get for having 4 stacks. Its duration is now 3 hours instead of 2, and you get a 30% XP boost. The buff doesn’t end on character death as well, and its duration is actually refreshed the next time you complete a Timewalking dungeon.

That’s basically all there’s to it. The Timewalking dungeons themselves do not change during the Turbulent Timeways event; everything is just the same as it was before the event. The only difference is that with this event, you get an upgradable XP buff.

As of 12.0.7, Dragonflight dungeons are added to the pool of Timewalking dungeons with their own Timewalking vendor located in Valdrakken, the Bronze Enclave. The list of dungeons in the rotation is as follows:

  • Algeth'ar Academy - this dungeon has a lighter tone than most Dragonflight instances, with classrooms, arcane lessons, and a few very unsafe educational experiments.
  • Halls of Infusion - set beneath Tyrhold, where ancient titan waters are protected and maintained.
  • Neltharus - located beneath the Obsidian Citadel and serves as a vault for the black dragonflight’s treasures and forging secrets. It is packed with djaradin enemies, lava, weapons, and the kind of heat-filled chaos you would expect from a dungeon built under a dragon fortress.
  • Ruby Life Pools - a red dragonflight hatchery where dragon eggs are protected and nurtured. During the dungeon, players fight through primalist forces trying to corrupt the pools and threaten one of the most important sanctuaries in the Dragon Isles.
  • The Azure Vault - a hidden blue dragonflight archive found in the Azure Span. It focuses on arcane magic, sealed knowledge, magical constructs, and vault defenses that have not exactly aged well while the Dragon Isles were dormant.
  • Brackenhide Hollow - the largest gnoll settlement in the Dragon Isles. The dungeon has a rougher, grimier feel, with decay magic, disease, alchemy, and chaotic gnoll enemies turning the area into one of Dragonflight’s nastier dungeon settings.

Turbulent Timeways Event Rewards

Getting Mastery of Timeways 4 times during this event (doesn’t have to be consecutive; you can skip a week) gives you the Master of the Turbulent Timeways V achievement. Since this is an account-wide achievement, the progress towards it counts from all characters on your account. I mean, you can get the Mastery of Timeways on one character in one week, and then switch up characters and get that buff for another alt during another week. The progress will count anyway, as long as you’re not trying to get it more than once during the same week. The achievement only counts one Mastery buff obtained by any character on your account once a week.

Getting this achievement also unlocks a new, exclusive mount only available during this event. The mount is the Spawn of Vyranoth.

As you complete Timewalking dungeons at max level, you’ll also earn additional Caches of Quel'Thalas Treasures. These contain pieces of Hero track equipment with 259 - 276 ilvl for your active specialization. Besides the caches, you’ll earn a currency called Timewarped Badges, which isn’t specifically tied to Turbulent Timeways, but it can be used to buy mounts from Previous Turbulent Timeways events.

Here are the older Turbulent Timeways mounts players could earn from previous versions of the Master of the Turbulent Timeways achievement. Now, you can buy them with Badges.

Achievement

Mount

Master of the Turbulent Timeways

Sandy Shalewing

Master of the Turbulent Timeways II

Timely Buzzbee

Master of the Turbulent Timeways III

Chrono Corsair

Master of the Turbulent Timeways IV

Bronze Aquilon

Bronze Corpsefly

Bronze Wilderling

Bronze Gravewing

You can find the Dragonflight Timewalking vendor Xydan in Valdrakken at 81.4 47.0 to the East of the main building. He’ll offer you new cosmetics, toys, a companion pet, etc. Visit him if you want to spend your Timewarped Badges on those older Turbulent Timeways mounts as well. Each of them will cost 5000 badges.

All in all, I see this event as a perfect leveling opportunity for alts, but if you don’t plan on making and leveling those, as a max-level character, you could still participate in the event, even if just for the achievement and the mount. I seriously doubt that hero track gear from the caches is going to upgrade your ilvl at this point.

Judging by the comments on Wowhead, you’ll also be able to complete Master of the Turbulent Timeways III and earn the Chrono Corsair mount in week one of Turbulent Timeways starting June 30th. It seems pretty random, but I’m sure some people would prefer to earn this mount by playing rather than throwing away 5k worth of Badges.
