AION 2 Ranger Class Overview

Ranger is your typical ranged DPS class. You hold down one or two buttons, and he goes “pew-pew-pew”, then something dies. It’s a very simple class, which is why when you see a bunch of random bullshit fly into you in the Abyss, and you’re dead in a second, most of that comes from a Ranger. But, in the name of balance, there are some caveats, one of which is very limited range. You’re not a tacticool long-range one-shot-one-kill sniper in this; your skills have a range of around 20 meters, which is farther than any melee class, but you’re still within enemy reach. You’re also pretty squishy, HP-wise, although you do have a few sustain options, and some skills have movement in them, so you’re more mobile than others. Overall, I would say, in PvE, Ranger is very easy. In group content, you’re able to deal lots of damage even in longer fights. While most classes will be busy dodging, you’ll still be attacking. In PvP, Ranger is a double-edged sword - you’ll love initiating fights, beaming down players who would have to reach you first, but if they do, you will die, cause you’re not as tanky as a Templar or a Gladiator. At least you’re not a Sin (another community name for Assassin).
I picked Ranger as my first alt because leveling this class is easy and fast, so I knew I would be able to catch up pretty fast.
If you're still choosing your main or an alt, check out my AION 2 Class Tier List to see how Ranger compares to the other seven classes.
How Ranger's Precision and Skill Speed Work
Ranger's damage revolves around three things: Critical Hits, Skill Speed, and cooldown reduction. And all three of these stats eventually start working together, especially once you get your main Stigma to level 20. Reaching that level is well into the endgame, but it's a nice goal to have for your character.
Precision is a super important buff, which you get from Marking Shot. By default, it increases Critical Hit by 300 for 10s. You can extend its duration and gain additional Perfect Chance through Specialties. Because of this buff, you will always start attacking with this ability, although you should keep it outside your macro.
Why? Well, for starters, Deadshot deals 35% more damage while Precision is active. And
Deadshot is one of your biggest damage buttons. So, you obviously want Precision active before charging that skill.
Then there's Skill Speed. You'll get bonuses to it from several skill Specialties, including Deadshot,
Snare Shot, and
Drill Dart. It makes your attacks come out faster, which is particularly useful for charged attacks and your regular rotation.
Finally, there's Vaizel's Authority. At level 20, this Stigma gains a 50% chance to reduce all skill cooldowns by one second whenever you land a Critical Hit during its effect.
You see where this is going.
The more attacks you land, the more opportunities you have to score Critical Hits. And the more Critical Hits you land, the more chances you have to reduce your cooldowns. That's why Ranger becomes particularly interesting once you start getting higher skill levels and better gear.
Best Ranger Build in AION 2

Below is arguably the best PvE DPS build built around Deadshot,
Gale Arrow,
Drill Dart, and
Vaizel's Authority. In other words, it utilizes the entire Ranger’s toolkit, leaving out only those skills that give you less damage than others. You can use the in-game dmg recorder to see for yourself.
The whole idea is to keep your important buffs active, deal as much damage as possible with Deadshot, and use your regular attacks to reduce cooldowns while waiting for the big cooldowns to reset.
It's a pretty straightforward build initially, but it gets much better as you unlock important Specialties. And yes, there's a macro involved, so you won't have to manually press every single ability all the time. It’s kind of the main gimmick in AION 2’s combat system.

Ranger Leveling Build
Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about perfecting your build during the main story. Just use the skills you have, unlock their first useful Specialties, and keep progressing toward level 45. Check out my AION 2 Leveling Guide if you want a more detailed explanation of the entire leveling process.
Here's what I'd recommend while leveling:
- Start with
Snipe and
Tempest Shot. Level these two more or less equally early on, since they're your main attacks and will carry you through the first levels.
- Prioritize
Drill Dart,
Gale Arrow, and
Burst Arrow as you unlock them. These become your main damage skills, so start putting more points into them instead of continuing to focus on your basic attacks.
- Level
Deadshot whenever possible. This is your biggest damage skill, and you want to unlock its mobility and +30% Skill Speed Specialties as soon as possible. You'll need extra levels from Daevanion and other sources later on, so keep that in mind.
- Work toward the higher-level Specialties on your main attacks. Once you have the important level 8 and 12 upgrades, start pushing your main damage skills toward level 16 and eventually 20.
- Invest in passives after your main skills. Prioritize
Focused Eye and
Hunter's Resolve, followed by
Hunter's Soul,
Concentrated Fire, and
Rooting Eye.
Don't try to level every single skill equally. You're going to need additional skill levels from Daevanion, equipment, and Arcana to reach the higher breakpoints anyway.
Remember that levels 8 and 12 unlock your first two Specialty slots, while level 16 unlocks another Specialty option. You won't get a third equipped Specialty slot until level 20.
And don't forget to actually equip those Specialties. Unlocking them doesn't automatically make them active.
Best Ranger Skills and Specialties
You’ll be using Deadshot,
Gale Arrow,
Drill Dart,
Burst Arrow, and the basic attack, which is
Snipe, to restore mana. So, these are the abilities I would prioritize when spending skill points and choosing Daevanion nodes. Just remember not to put
Deadshot in a macro, because it’s a chargeable skill, which means that if you put it in a macro, it will always only use its weakest option, charge level 1 instead of 3. So, keep it on a separate button. It’s only used for single targets.

These are progression targets, not levels you'll immediately have when reaching character level 45. You'll need to collect Daevanion Points and obtain additional skill levels through other systems.
Deadshot
Deadshot is your big chargeable damage button. It deals a massive hit from up to 20 meters away, and its damage increases by 35% while Precision is active. You have to hold the button to charge it through three levels before releasing the attack. The base charge times are 0.5, 1, and 1.5s, and its cooldown is 20s.
Early on, that might feel a little awkward, especially if you're used to just pressing buttons and having your character attack immediately. But once you unlock its important Specialties, things get a lot better.
Here are Deadshot's available Specialties:
|

|

|

|
For the PvE build, I would prioritize Skill Speed and the extra-damage Specialty. Once you reach level 20 and get a third slot, you can also take the mobile skill option without giving up those damage bonuses.
Being able to move while charging Deadshot is incredibly useful. Think about how many dungeon bosses force you to move every couple of seconds. Without that Specialty, charging your most powerful ability can become pretty annoying.
And here's an important thing: Don't put Deadshot into your macro.
The macro may activate it at its initial charge level rather than allowing it to reach the third one. That's a terrible trade when you're talking about your biggest damage skill.
Also, don't use it before applying Precision. You're giving up 35% additional damage for no good reason.
Gale Arrow
Gale Arrow is ultimately one of those skills you throw in your macro and forget about it, but it’s nothing else if important. It deals damage and gives you a buff. Although its cooldown is not great.
By default, Gale provides:
- +7% Combat Speed
- +7% PvE Damage Boost
- +3.5% PvP Damage Boost
The buff lasts 10s, and Gale Arrow has a 20-second cooldown. So, already, you can see why this skill is important. It's not just another arrow that deals damage. It makes practically everything else you do better.
Its Specialties are:
|
Level |
Specialty Effect |
|
8 |
+5s duration |
|
8 |
50% chance to inflict Knock Back on hit |
|
8 |
Changes to mobile skill |
|
12 |
Increases Combat Speed, PvE Damage Boost, and PvP Damage Boost when fewer targets are hit |
|
16 |
-10s cooldown |
That level 16 cooldown reduction is what you want. That cooldown cut by half is very nice. But before you get there, make sure to grab other nice specialties. Combine that with its duration, and you can see why maintaining Gale becomes much easier. Also, you always wanna go for making skills mobile. It’s not just for bosses; you always wanna be moving around, so any skill that can be used while moving is a good skill. So, usually it’s better to always have this specialty whenever available. If you don’t want to lose a damage-improving specialty or something like that, have those first, and once you have all 3 slots unlocked, make sure one of them is taken by the mobility specialty.
Until then, prioritize the offensive bonuses and cooldown reduction, swapping the mobility option in when the encounter requires it.
Drill Dart
Drill Dart is one of those skills that might not look particularly impressive at first, but you'll end up using it constantly.
It has a five-second cooldown, deals damage to up to four enemies within four meters of your target, and applies Bleed. The Bleed effect deals damage every second for six seconds and reduces Incoming Heal by 60%.
It also restores 100 MP whenever it lands a Critical Hit.
Not bad for a skill with such a short cooldown.
Here are the available Specialties:
|
Level |
Specialty Effect |
|
8 |
Absorbs 3% HP |
|
8 |
+2s Bleed duration |
|
8 |
+20% Skill Speed |
|
12 |
Multi-Hit on hit |
|
16 |
Activates |
For damage, I recommend Skill Speed, Multi-Hit, and the additional activation. Getting Drill Dart to level 16 is a great improvement because you're getting more damage out of an ability you'll already be using frequently.
The HP absorption Specialty is useful too, especially while leveling or farming solo. I wouldn't say it's mandatory for regular dungeon DPS, though.
What makes Drill Dart even more useful is its interaction with
Concentrated Fire. Since
Drill Dart applies Bleed, it helps activate the passive's additional damage effect.
Snipe
Snipe is your basic attack, or left-click if you're playing on PC with the default controls. It deals damage from up to 20 meters away and restores 120 MP.
You'll use Snipe throughout the entire game because most of your other attacks consume MP. So, whenever you're waiting for cooldowns or running low on mana,
Snipe is your friend.
Its available Specialties are:
|
Level |
Specialty Effect |
|
8 |
+20% MP restored |
|
8 |
Absorbs 0.7% HP |
|
8 |
+50% Multi-Hit on hit |
|
12 |

|
16 |
Adds Tempest Arrow Chain Skill |
The cooldown reduction is the big one here.
Every successful hit can reduce Deadshot's cooldown by one second. Since
Deadshot is your main damage ability, you obviously want to get it back as quickly as possible.
You gotta get Multi-Hit and the Deadshot cooldown reduction. Down the line, when you get the third Specialty slot, you can add the MP restoration specialty/.
Burst Arrow
Another big damage hit, has a 100% chance to multi-hit with an augment, and applies a slow and root effect Its Specialties include:
|
Level |
Specialty Effect |
|
8 |
Absorbs 10% HP |
|
8 |
+50% Multi-Hit on hit |
|
8 |
Changes to mobile skill |
|
12 |
Up to +20% damage when fewer targets are hit |
|
16 |
25% chance to reset cooldown on hit |
For PvE, I'd prioritize the damage bonus against fewer targets and the mobile skill option, followed by the cooldown-reset Specialty.
Multi-Hit is another good offensive choice if you don't need mobility or additional healing.
The thing to remember is that Burst Arrow works as part of a combo. You apply Slow first, then use
Burst Arrow. If the target isn't affected by Slow or Root, the skill won't activate.
Tempest Shot
Tempest Shot is your regular MP-consuming attack, similar to Pummel for Templar or Savage Roar for Assassin. You'll use it to fill the gaps between your more important abilities.
It attacks up to four enemies around your selected target, which makes it useful for regular farming and dungeon packs.
The Specialties are:
|
Level |
Specialty Effect |
|
8 |
-20% MP consumed |
|
8 |
+10% skill Critical Hit |
|
8 |
Up to +12% damage when fewer targets are hit |
|
12 |
5% chance to inflict Knock Back on Critical Hit |
|
16 |
+20% Skill Speed |
For PvE, I would prioritize the Critical Hit, single-target damage, and Skill Speed options as you unlock enough slots.
The MP reduction is nice while leveling, but I'd rather focus on damage once your Snipe and
Drill Dart can handle most of your mana recovery.
Tempest Shot isn't your biggest damage source, but you'll still use it frequently. So, don't completely forget about it while investing in
Deadshot and
Gale Arrow.
Other Useful Ranger Skills
There are a few more skills worth mentioning even though I wouldn't prioritize them over your main damage abilities.
Explosion Trap - a very handy trap, useful for stacking mobs in one place.
Suppressing Arrow - a single-target stun that can be used only after
Marking Shot.
Arrow Scattershot is used only on staggered enemies.
Defiance - removes all CC effects on you.
These are all also useful, just not always as part of a macro. You’ll come to use those depending on the situation.

Best Ranger Stigmas

Stigmas are where Ranger gets some of its most important buffs and additional damage abilities. The main PvE build uses Vaizel's Authority,
Bow of Blessing,
Griffon Arrow, and
Explosive Arrow.
Supporting Fire is another option worth considering, particularly if you want additional healing while attacking.
As with other classes, Stigma upgrades become increasingly expensive, so I wouldn't recommend spreading all your points equally forever. You want to unlock useful early effects and then concentrate on the Stigma that makes the biggest difference to your build.
And for Ranger, that's Vaizel's Authority.

Vaizel's Authority
Vaizel's Authority is the most important Stigma for Ranger, and the one you eventually want to get to level 20. At level 5, it gives you 20% Attack and 10% Perfect Chance for 12s, with a 60-second cooldown. That's already a good buff, but it's nothing compared to what happens once you unlock its final Specialty.
At level 20, every Critical Hit has a 50% chance to reduce all your skill cooldowns by 1s while the buff is active. This is why Skill Speed is such an important part of Ranger's build. The faster you attack, the more often you can crit, and those crits keep reducing your cooldowns. Skills that normally take 18 seconds to come back can potentially be ready in just a few seconds. I would say this is easily Ranger's biggest damage spike at endgame.
The problem is getting enough Stigma points to reach level 20. Max recommends leveling your Stigmas more or less equally to level 5 while progressing, then saving enough points to reset everything and dump them into Vaizel's Authority. Respeccing is free, so there's no reason to worry about losing your early upgrades permanently. Once you've got
Vaizel's Authority to level 20, you can start working on the other Stigmas again.
Bow of Blessing
Bow of Blessing is a buff that gives you bonus Critical Hit, Accuracy and Multi-Hit for 12 seconds. Specialties give you additional bonuses such as increased attack at level 10, more Critical Hit at level 15 and so on. It’s an important buff, if I do say so myself.
Griffon Arrow
Griffon Arrow is one of Ranger's big damage Stigmas. It hits pretty hard on its own, but it also applies Crimson Flames for 10s, dealing additional Fire damage over time. The attack can hit up to four enemies within four meters of your target, so you can use it against groups as well.
The nice thing is that the burning damage continues after the initial hit. This also gives Concentrated Fire another damage-over-time effect to trigger from, since that passive deals additional damage against enemies affected by DoTs. It's another damage skill you can work into the rotation without having to change much about how Ranger plays.
Explosive Arrow
Explosive Arrow is another nuke skill, and you want to use it against enemies affected by Slow or Root. It gets 20% additional damage against those targets, so firing it before applying a debuff means you're missing out on free damage.
Since Ranger already has Snare Shot to apply Slow, you don't need to do anything special here. Just make sure the target is slowed or rooted before
Explosive Arrow goes off. This is one of the reasons Max spends so much time explaining the order of Ranger's abilities and how the macro handles them.
Supporting Fire
Supporting Fire summons an orb that provides supporting fire for 15s near the caster. Also has a 50% chance to deal a certain amount of wind damage and absorb some HP, which means it will heal us. Nice for sustain.
Best Ranger Passive Skills
There are only a few passives that you want to care about and the rest can mostly be ignored. Everything you need is in the table below:
| Icon |
Passive |
Priority |
Base-Level Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
|
Focused Eye |
Highest |
+100 Accuracy, +1% PvE Damage Boost, +0.5% PvP Damage Boost, +0.2% Double Chance |

|
|
Rooting Eye |
High |

These are base-level tooltip values. The bonuses increase as you level the passives.
AION 2 Ranger PvE Rotation
Ranger's rotation is pretty easy to understand once you know what each ability does. The main goal is to keep Precision and Gale active, use your offensive Stigmas at the right moment, and charge Deadshot whenever it's available.
The nice thing is that Ranger doesn't need to stand still for every attack. As you unlock the mobile Specialties, you can keep moving while dealing damage.
Here's what we're trying to accomplish:
- Maintain Precision through
Marking Shot.
- Keep Gale active for its Combat Speed and damage bonuses.
- Use
Snare Shot to enable
Burst Arrow.
- Activate
Vaizel's Authority and
Bow of Blessing before major damage sequences.
- Fully charge
Deadshot rather than wasting it at the first charge level.
- Use
Snipe and your macro to fill downtime and help reduce cooldowns.
Ranger Opening Rotation
For boss encounters, I recommend the following opening sequence:
Bow of Blessing: Activate your Critical Hit and Accuracy buff.
Vaizel's Authority: Gain 20% Attack and your unlocked Stigma bonuses.
Marking Shot: Apply Precision before your main damage attacks.
Gale Arrow: Activate Gale for Combat Speed and PvE Damage Boost.
Snare Shot: Apply Slow to enable
Burst Arrow.
Explosive Arrow and
Griffon Arrow: Deal additional damage and apply Crimson Flames.
Deadshot: Fully charge and release your most powerful attack while Precision is active.
Drill Dart and
Burst Arrow: Continue dealing damage through your main attacks.
The exact order can change depending on the boss and how much time you have before it starts moving or using mechanics.
For example, I wouldn't activate all my buffs and then start charging Deadshot if I know the boss is about to become untargetable. You're just wasting precious buff duration.
Ranger Sustained DPS Rotation
Outside your opening combo, Ranger works more like a priority system than a fixed rotation.
Your main goal is to use Deadshot whenever it's ready and properly buffed, while letting the rest of your attacks deal damage and reduce cooldowns.
Here's what I'd focus on:
- Refresh Precision with
Marking Shot before it expires.
- Use
Gale Arrow to maintain its damage bonuses.
- Fully charge
Deadshot whenever available.
- Apply Slow before
Burst Arrow.
- Use
Drill Dart whenever available.
- Fill downtime with
Snipe and
Tempest Shot.
- Activate offensive Stigmas during useful damage opportunities.
Once Vaizel's Authority reaches level 20, this rotation becomes much faster during the buff. Critical Hits can reduce your skill cooldowns, potentially allowing you to use your important abilities more frequently.
That's also why you shouldn't focus exclusively on Deadshot's damage number. A lot of Ranger's sustained damage comes from how the rest of its attacks interact with each other.
How to Farm as a Ranger
What you need to understand when playing this class is if you hit and kill targets one by one, you’re not playing the class right. I actually struggled with it, because I main Gladiator. I’m used to dealing with targets one by one, quickly jumping to the next one with my gap closer. But on Ranger, you’d be losing damage and wasting time playing like that. What you need to be doing is aggroing every mob you need in the area with your Snipe (left-click), have them grouped up, and then unleash your macro on them all at the same time. That is so much faster than going from one to the next.
You can use your Explosion Trap to make the pack get stuck in one place if you need to. But for single targets, bosses, and elite mobs, I’d actually start with
Deadshot charged to the max. Then
Marking Shot followed by
Suppressing Arrow. Soon enough, your
Deadshot alone will be enough to deal with any elite.
Best Ranger Macros
Ranger relies pretty heavily on macros for dealing damage, but there's one important skill you should always keep separate: Deadshot. Since it's a charged attack, putting it into a macro can cause it to activate at the first charge level instead of the third one. And trust me, you don't want to waste your biggest damage skill like that.
If you're unfamiliar with how the in-game macro system works, check out my AION 2 Macros Guide. It explains skill chains, priorities, and animation canceling in more detail.
Check out this macro:
| Icon |
Order |
Skill |
|---|---|---|
|
1 |
Gale Arrow |
|
|
2 |
Drill Dart |
|
|
3 |
Burst Arrow |
|
|
4 |
Drill Dart |
The second Drill Dart becomes more relevant later, once you unlock the upgrades and cooldown interactions needed to use it more frequently. You can add it to the macro beforehand, though.
Now, there's another important part. Your macro can also include Stigmas such as Vaizel's Authority,
Bow of Blessing, and
Supporting Fire. These are your offensive buffs, and the idea is to activate them whenever they're available rather than having to press each button manually.
Burst Arrow has the highest priority in this part of the macro, followed by
Vaizel's Authority,
Bow of Blessing, and
Supporting Fire.
Also, don't forget that AION 2 has skill chains. You don't necessarily need to add every individual follow-up attack to your macro because activating the first skill can lead into another one. That's why the macro can appear relatively simple while your character still goes through several different attacks.
Keep Snipe on your left mouse button and use it alongside your main macro to restore MP. I'd keep these skills on separate buttons:
Deadshot: Fully charge it manually for maximum damage.
Marking Shot: Use it to activate Precision and reposition yourself.
Explosion Trap: Use it to group enemies together.
Suppressing Arrow: Save it for Stun and other crowd-control situations.
Defiance: Keep it available for removing crowd control and recovering HP.
So, basically, your macro handles most of the regular damage rotation and offensive buffs, while you manually use Deadshot and your situational abilities. You still need to pay attention to boss mechanics and positioning, but at least you won't have to press ten different buttons every couple of seconds.
Ranger PvP Build and Combos
It’s nice to play ranger in PvP, especially mass PvP. Although it can be unfair at times, I found that in general, what you want to do is stay close to your friendly players and just use your macros. It’ll be difficult for the enemy to pick you as a target from the crowd, and if your damage is high enough, you might kill the enemy without any help. And even if not, being a ranged class means that you’ll have a grand old time farming Abyss currency, because you get some for damage dealt if the target dies.
You might look into switching a few specialties around to get yourself more crowd-control, stuns, or sustain. I recommend checking out my AION 2 Abyss PvP Guide if you're still getting familiar with how that content works.
Best Ranger Stats
Ranger benefits from several offensive stats, but I would prioritize Combat Speed, Weapon Damage Boost, and other bonuses that help you deal more damage with your regular rotation. Critical Hit is obviously important too, especially once you get Vaizel's Authority to level 20, since landing Critical Hits can reduce all your skill cooldowns. But that doesn't mean you should stack Critical Hit on every piece of equipment. You also need Accuracy to actually hit your targets, and other damage bonuses become increasingly valuable as your character gets stronger.
Another thing worth mentioning is that Ranger gets plenty of Critical Hit bonuses from skills and buffs, including Precision and Bow of Blessing. So, I wouldn't recommend blindly rerolling everything for Critical Hit. There's also evidence of a 50% Critical Hit cap, although I'd wait for further Global testing before treating that as a universal gearing threshold.

Combat Speed deserves particular attention because Ranger uses so many attacks in quick succession. Reroll your Weapon and Guard for this stat, alongside Weapon Damage Boost. The faster you're attacking, the more opportunities you have to trigger Critical Hits and other effects. And once Vaizel's Authority reaches level 20, those Critical Hits can help bring your important cooldowns back much sooner.
Accuracy is another stat I wouldn't ignore, especially once you start farming harder dungeons. There's little point in having ridiculous damage bonuses if your attacks keep missing the boss. However, once you have enough Accuracy for the content you're doing, I'd focus more on improving your damage rather than continuing to stack it unnecessarily.
One last thing: don't confuse Combat Speed with the +Skill Speed effects you get from individual skill Specialties. Both are useful, but Skill Speed is something we're mainly getting through the abilities themselves, such as Deadshot and
Drill Dart. For PvP, I'd also consider additional defensive bonuses like Evasion and Damage Tolerance because Ranger isn't exactly built to survive prolonged melee combat.
Best Ranger Gear and Manastones
For Ranger, I recommend prioritizing your Bow and Guard first, since both can provide Weapon Damage Boost and Combat Speed, which are two of the most important stats for this class. You also want equipment that increases your main skill levels, especially Deadshot,
Tempest Shot,
Gale Arrow, and
Drill Dart. Getting these skills to level 16 and eventually 20 is a pretty big deal because of the Specialties you'll unlock.
But please don't waste all your Kina chasing perfect stats while you're still working toward 1,400, 1,600, or 2,100 Gear Score. You're going to replace plenty of equipment along the way, so initially, your main goal is simply reaching the requirements for better dungeons. You can start paying more attention to specific stat rolls once you've obtained gear that you'll actually keep. Check out my AION 2 Gear Score Farming Guide if you want to know which GS milestones to prioritize and how to reach them.
Ranger Gear Progression
For gear progression, I'd generally follow the same path as other classes. Complete the main story, clear Regional Quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds, and collect the free upgrades before spending too much on dungeon farming. Once you reach 1,400 GS, you can start farming Vakron Sky Island for better equipment. At 1,600 GS, you'll unlock the first Transcendence stage and start collecting Arcana. And once you reach 2,100 GS, you can move on to 3-star Expeditions.
Here's what I recommend looking for on your Ranger equipment:

Obviously, you're not going to get all these stats on every piece of equipment immediately, so don't try to reroll everything until it's perfect. Just get a good item first, then start rolling.
One thing I'd pay particular attention to is Combat Speed on your Bow and Guard. Ranger benefits a lot from attacking faster, especially once Vaizel's Authority reaches level 20 and your Critical Hits can start reducing skill cooldowns. Rings are another important piece because they can provide additional levels for your main damage skills. I would prioritize
Deadshot, followed by
Tempest Shot,
Gale Arrow, and
Drill Dart, depending on which Specialty breakpoint you're closest to.
For your Amulet, Belt, and Bracelets, I recommend working on their Enhancement levels as you progress. And once you're farming equipment you intend to keep, that's when I'd invest more heavily in Soul Binding and better stat rolls. Don't forget that Arcana and Daevanion Boards also provide skill levels, so you don't necessarily need to get every single upgrade from your equipment.
Best Ranger Manastones
For Manastones and Soulstones, I'd focus on offensive bonuses rather than trying to stack only Critical Hit or Accuracy. Both stats are useful, but Ranger also benefits a lot from direct damage bonuses, especially once your major buffs and passives are working properly.
These are your stat priorities:
|
Stat |
Priority |
|
Front Attack Damage Boost |
Highest |
|
Attack |
Very High |
|
Weapon Damage Boost |
Very High |
|
Critical Hit |
High, until sufficient |
|
Accuracy |
High, depending on the boss |
|
Damage Boost |
High |
I wouldn't say you should deliberately stand in front of every boss and eat its attacks just to benefit from this stat. But you’re not an assassin either.
Accuracy is another stat you'll need to adjust depending on the content you're farming. Harder bosses require more Accuracy, but once your attacks are consistently landing, you can start focusing more on direct damage bonuses. The same goes for Critical Hit, since Ranger already gets additional Critical Hit through Precision, Bow of Blessing, and other effects.
And as always, don't spend your best Manastones on gear you're about to replace. Use cheaper stones while progressing toward higher Gear Score, then work on better combinations once you have equipment worth keeping.
Best Ranger Daevanion Boards

Daevanion is particularly important for Ranger because you need additional skill levels to unlock some of your best Specialties. You won't get every important skill to level 16 or 20 through regular skill points alone, so you'll have to plan your Daevanion progression around your main damage abilities. For Ranger, that means focusing on Deadshot,
Gale Arrow,
Drill Dart, and eventually your most important offensive passives.
The main thing I'd recommend is prioritizing damage over defensive bonuses, especially when you're just starting to unlock the boards. Avoid nodes that give you “+x” in something. You already have Snipe to restore mana, so spending valuable Daevanion Points on MP bonuses instead of damage isn't particularly useful. If you're unfamiliar with how the boards work, check out my AION 2 Daevanion Board Guide.
Ranger Daevanion Progression Priority
You won't be able to follow a perfectly straight path toward every skill you want. Some nodes require you to unlock several others first, and your available Daevanion Points will determine which upgrades you can reach. Still, here's the general order I'd recommend when choosing which skill and passive bonuses to work toward:
|
Priority |

Main skills Lv. 20 |
Unlocks a third Specialty slot on your most important abilities |
One thing worth mentioning is that you shouldn't necessarily rush Deadshot level 16 at the expense of everything else. I would first make sure you have the useful level 8 and 12 Specialties on your main attacks, then work toward the level 16 upgrades. Also, don't forget that you can obtain additional skill levels through equipment and Arcana, so check what you're missing before spending tons of Daevanion Points just to gain one level.
Eventually, you’ll get all the skill and passive nodes on the first 3 boards, but until you do, focus on the skill leveling priority and get those extra levels when you can’t get them simply by leveling the skill up.
And don't forget that your build priorities can change depending on which skill levels you already have. For example, if your gear and Arcana already give you enough Deadshot levels to unlock its important Specialty, I'd rather spend my next Daevanion Points on
Gale Arrow or
Drill Dart than keep blindly following the same path. The goal is to unlock useful Specialties and deal more damage, not just fill every board as quickly as possible.
Best Ranger Arcana
Arcana is another important progression system because it provides additional stats and skill levels. You'll start farming Arcana cards in Transcendence dungeons once you reach 1,600 Gear Score. I recommend doing this as soon as possible because simply equipping a card in every slot gives you a pretty big GS increase, even if they're just common cards. You can worry about getting better ones later.
For Ranger, I'd prioritize Deadshot,
Tempest Shot,
Gale Arrow, and
Drill Dart, followed by your main offensive passives. The goal is to get these skills to level 16 and eventually 20, since that's when you unlock their most important Specialties. However, you should also consider which skill levels you're already getting from gear and Daevanion Boards. There's little point in chasing another
Deadshot level if another card would help you reach a more important breakpoint on
Tempest Shot or
Gale Arrow.

Another thing worth considering is the Divinity stats on your cards. I would prioritize Wisdom for Double Chance, Time for Combat Speed, and Illusion for Cooldown Reduction, since these bonuses are particularly useful for Ranger. You can also mix cards from the Vigor and Magic sets depending on which skills and Divinity bonuses you need. Don't automatically choose one set for every slot just because it looks better on paper.
As you start collecting higher-rarity cards, you'll get more skill bonuses on each one. Common cards have one, Uncommon cards have two, Rare cards have three, and Unique cards have four. You can also enhance Arcana to improve its Divinity bonuses and potentially obtain additional skill levels. If you're looking for a specific card, check the available effects before using Transmutation, since targeting more skills increases the material cost.
My advice is to fill every Arcana slot first, then gradually replace weaker cards with ones that provide better skill and Divinity bonuses. Don't waste all your materials trying to craft a perfect card immediately. Getting another level on Deadshot,
Tempest Shot,
Gale Arrow, or
Drill Dart can be a much bigger improvement than chasing a small stat increase, especially if that level unlocks a new Specialty.
Best Ranger Pantheon and Pets
Pantheon and Pets provide additional stats that contribute to Ranger's damage and survivability. They're worth developing alongside your other progression systems, but I wouldn't prioritize minor bonuses here over reaching important skill levels.
For Pantheon, I would focus on offensive bonuses that work with your Critical Hit and cooldown-based gameplay.
|
Pantheon Stat |
Main Benefits |
|
Destruction |
Attack Increase and Perfect Resist |
|
Time |
Combat Speed and Double Chance Resist |
|
Space |
Movement Speed and Block Chance |
|
Wisdom |
Reduced MP Consumption and Double Chance |
|
Illusion |
Cooldown Reduction and Endurance Penetration |
Time and Illusion are particularly interesting for Ranger because Combat Speed and Cooldown Reduction work nicely with your regular attack rotation.
Wisdom is another useful option if you're having problems maintaining MP during longer fights.
For Pets and Genus Insight, I'd follow the usual offensive progression. Develop your collection, unlock useful bonuses, and focus on the stats that complement your existing equipment.
But don't spend all your resources chasing a tiny pet bonus while your main damage skills are still missing important levels.
AION 2 Ranger Tips and Tricks
I think Ranger becomes much more enjoyable once you stop treating it as a class where you just stand somewhere and shoot arrows. There's actually quite a lot going on with your buffs, cooldowns, and movement, especially at higher levels.
Here are the things I'd pay the most attention to:
- Always use
Marking Shot before
Deadshot. Precision increases
Deadshot's damage by 35%, so don't waste your biggest attack without it.
- Prioritize
Deadshot upgrades. Its level 16 Specialty and eventual third Specialty slot make a significant difference.
- Don't ignore
Gale Arrow. The Combat Speed and PvE Damage Boost bonuses contribute to practically everything else you do.
- Work toward
Vaizel's Authority level 20. Its cooldown-reduction effect is one of Ranger's biggest endgame improvements.
- Keep
Deadshot outside your macro. You want to fully charge the skill, not accidentally fire a weak version.
- Use
Snare Shot before
Burst Arrow.
Burst Arrow requires Slow or Root, so make sure the condition is active.
- Group enemies when farming.
Explosion Trap can pull mobs together, allowing your relatively small AoE attacks to hit more targets.
- Don't forget
Snipe. It restores MP and can reduce
Deadshot's cooldown through its Specialty.
- Use mobility Specialties. Being able to attack while moving makes Ranger much more comfortable during difficult boss encounters.
- Save
Defiance for dangerous situations. Its crowd-control removal and healing Specialty can save you when something goes wrong.
- Don't level everything equally. Focus on important Specialty breakpoints instead of spreading your points across every available skill.
One last thing I'd recommend is practicing Deadshot charging while moving once you unlock its mobile Specialty. It might feel a little weird initially because you're holding an attack button while controlling your movement, but it's worth getting used to.
Good Ranger players don't just deal damage when the boss stands still. They keep attacking while dealing with mechanics, repositioning, and preparing their next big hit.
F.A.Q.
Is Ranger good in AION 2?
Yes, Ranger is a very simple class that’s easy to level up fast, even for new players. In PvP, Ranger is also pretty strong thanks to being able to deal damage from a safe distance.
Is Ranger easy to play in AION 2?
AION 2 Ranger is a very easy class to pick up and learn. Even though the combat system in AION 2 requires you to understand how macros work, Ranger is still one of the easiest classes to learn.
What are the best Ranger skills in AION 2?
Gale Arrow, Drill Dart, Burst Arrow, along with a few stigmas, go into your macro. When paired with Snipe through animation cancel, never running out of mana gives you your best skills to use. I recommend prioritizing Deadshot level 16, followed by Gale Arrow and Drill Dart, then working toward their level 20 Specialties.
What are the best Ranger Stigmas in AION 2?
Ranger’s Vaizel's Authority and Bow of Blessing are two of the most important offensive Stigmas for PvE. Griffon Arrow and Explosive Arrow provide additional damage, while Supporting Fire is another useful option for solo farming and HP recovery.
What stats should Ranger prioritize?
Ranger’s main stats are Combat Speed and Weapon Damage Boost, followed by Critical Hit and Accuracy. Critical Hit is useful once Vaizel's Authority is at level 20, since landing crits can reduce your skill cooldowns.
Is Ranger good for solo players?
Ranger is a solo-friendly class in the game. It’s a very easy class to level up and get gear, so you won’t lose too much time farming all the horizontal content.
Is Ranger better for PvE or PvP?
Ranger is better in PvE simply because most of the PvP in AION 2 is uncoordinated and chaotic. Still, a Ranger will have a much easier time fighting in the crowd, as it would be pretty difficult to target you while you’re behind other teammates.
