Diablo 2 Resurrected Class Tier List

With the Warlock class being released, I decided to create this updated Diablo 2 Resurrected class tier list. We’ll go over all classes and explain why we ranked some of the classes as the best ones.

Check out the Diablo 2 Resurrected Class Tier List

Diablo 2 Resurrected Class Tier List Quick Summary:

  • S-Tier: Warlock, Paladin - extremely strong classes with few downsides in all types of content.
  • A-Tier: Sorceress, Assassin, Amazon - really close to S-Tier, but aren’t as easy or have some notable downsides in content completion.
  • B-Tier: Necromancer, Barbarian - Average performance. Not really good nor bad.
  • C-Tier: Druid - In a weak spot right now. Aren’t worth playing if you’re trying to chase the meta.

One of the most important parts of making your build work is getting the right runes, which can be a real pain to farm. Luckily for you, we have Diablo 2 Resurrected Runes available on our website. Check them out!

Diablo 2 Class Tier List

Creating a tier list is hard when it comes to Diablo and generally any ARPG following Diablo’s formula. The reason is that these games are heavily dependent on gear and can make even the trashiest classes work in some scenarios. Another reason is that some classes might be terrible in one activity, but terrific in another. Here’s the list of all classes, including the newly released Warlock:

  • Amazon
  • Assassin
  • Barbarian
  • Druid
  • Necromancer
  • Paladin
  • Sorcerer
  • Warlock

While I could create a list for each class and their builds, I’ll try something different. I’ll try to find out which class is generally the strongest, taking into account all builds that are good in late game, in elite hunting, in trash clearing, and in Uber farming. Let’s take a look at the tier list, shall we?

Tier

Classes

S-Tier

Warlock, Paladin

A-Tier

Sorceress, Assassin, Amazon

B-Tier

Necromancer, Barbarian

C-Tier

Druid

Warlock is so strong right now, I’d even consider putting him in S+ Tier. Paladin is dominant as always, and with new items and affixes introduced, will probably be even stronger. Sorceress is a difficult character to play, so she might seem weak initially, plus a chance to hit a wall if she comes upon monsters with elemental immunity to her damage makes her less powerful and overall great. Assassin is really close to being S-Tier, but her Uber clearing ability is kind of meh, unlike both top-tier contenders. Amazon is an amazing PvM machine, but her movement is woeful. Necro and Barb are pretty solid, but I wouldn’t call them great. They have only a couple of viable builds in endgame content, which locks you out of experimentation. Druid… Right now, Druid’s on a mission of exploring new life forms at the bottom of the tier list. The Druid’s problem is that he’s balanced, and in Diablo, that means the character’s trash. He doesn’t excel at anything, at least for now.

Warlock - S Tier Class

Well, this class is really broken. Like it’s so OP that it can clear endgame content with just a weapon in his hands. This class has three distinct skill branches:

  • Eldritch: Enhance your weapons with various hexes, buffs, amplifiers, etc. This tree puts the war in Warlock.
  • Demons: It’s a summoning tree. You have three variations - Goatmen, Tainted, and Defilers. In addition, you can just make any demon you meet your pet and force them to work for you. I wonder if demons have labor unions to protect them from such atrocity.
  • Chaos: A bit more typical mage tree. Warlock’s spells are mostly powerful AoE.

None of these skill trees lacks power, and I don’t think you can even ruin your build with wrong skill point distribution. It’s the best class for newcomers and veteran players if they want to have dopamine spikes from the power trip Warlock grants. It’s equally good in any endgame activities, leveling, and normal play. There are virtually no downsides to him, and I don’t even think he’ll be nerfed that much. Warlock is a new Diablo 2 poster boy. I recommend you try him and laugh at how crazy this class is.

Paladin - S Tier Class

Paladin has been dominating the game since the release, and if you were afraid that the developers would kill him so that he doesn’t outshine Warlock, you’re wrong. He’s a bit more balanced, if you can call being good at everything balanced. Here’s what makes him good:

  • Powerful from Normal to Hell: His Hammer damage is magic and doesn’t get hard-stopped by immunities, unlike Sorceress.
  • Good Magic Find Potential: He’s not on the Sorc or Barb levels, but he’s still strong, as he has fast movement and kills enemies quickly.
  • Ubers: What Ubers? Get that smite and land crushing blows on their heads. You won’t even feel them. The best thing is that you don’t even need any crazy gear to kill them.

If you play Diablo 2 just to wind down after a working day, the Paladin will do wonderfully. If you’re a player who likes to learn everything about the character, he is also great and has tons of potential to reach new heights, but he might feel a bit boring. He’s just so good that you won’t experience any challenge, and Diablo 2 is supposed to be a challenging game.

Sorceress - A Tier Class

I know this opinion might cause a blood vessel to pop, but as I mentioned before, I’m giving an overall class ranking. Sorceress, when it comes to endgame, is an easy S-Tier, on par with Paladin and Warlock. However, her effectiveness is really dependent on whether you can play her well. Sorc doesn’t like it when you make mistakes. Her favorite pastime is dying from being hit by a trash mob. Let me explain why she’s only A-Tier:

  • Powerful Builds: Blizzard Sorc is a great starter build and my favorite one to play cause I like seeing big numbers, but even this one is hard. Her other builds require you to chug pre-workout supplements to enter the flow state.
  • Insane Magic Find: She can farm like no other, as she can teleport straight to the boss fight.
  • Fastest Movement: She has the fastest movement in the game once she gets going.
  • Very Difficult and Low Survivability: Chill farm isn’t an option.

If you like playing games that require lightning-fast reaction time and always walk on the edge of a knife, risking death from a random projectile, I kid you not, this will be your favorite class. If you’re playing Diablo just for the loot loop and don’t want to look like that one gif of a guy playing Geometry Dash, maybe skip this one. It’s a glass cannon in its full meaning. If you can’t play her well, she’ll be a B or even C Tier for you.

Assassin - A Tier Class

Don’t mind Assassin being A-Tier. She’s almost as strong as Paladin, and in some content, she’s even better. You can play Trapsin, which is a more popular build, or Kicksin, which is another good build, and she will be good in most endgame content. She’s a very good all-rounder as well.

  • Easy to Pick Up: She’s very easy to learn, especially if playing the trapper build.
  • Great at Normal, Good at Hell: While normal is a cakewalk for this character, Hell can be a bit more finicky
  • Amazing Movement: She’s the fastest character out of the box. Late-game Sorc can clear her, though.

Where Assassin finds herself weaker than Paladin is in Uber clearing and MF. Ubers can be done pretty reliably with a kick build, but you may find it a bit harder to maintain than Trapsin, and Trapsin isn’t super crazy with Uber bosses. Assassin shines in Hell clears and safe farming, though. I might seem a little critical of her, but she’s actually great for most activities, with minor “buts”.

Amazon - A Tier Class

While Amazon can be really awkward to play, she’s pretty good for PvM (Player-vs-Monsters). She has arguably two of the strongest skills in the game: Charged Strike and Lightning Fury. She has one of the strongest mob clear potentials in the entire game, but her movement and MF potential bring her down a little.

  • Amazing Clear through Normal and Hell: Lightning Fury clears monsters so fast that it’s laughable at times. It’s so good that even their lightning-immune traits don’t help.
  • Needs Gear: Amazon grows weaker if you lack good gear later in the game.
  • Awful Movement and MF: Her cast-rate frames will make you tear your hair out. Her MF is also low, mainly because of her movement, which you’ll need to invest in.

Javazon is an amazing build to play with, but it can feel a little unsatisfying because of the low chance of good drops. While she can clear the Ubers decently, her movement again gets in the way and makes it super hard to actually do something against them. I recommend playing Amazon in your following playthroughs, but not the first one.

Necromancer - B Tier Class

This edgelord is great if you enjoy a laid-back and safe style of gameplay. Surprising for his looks, isn’t it? If you’re playing Hardcore mode, this class is an S-Tier, thanks to its survivability. It’s one of the easiest classes to play, but Necromancer is painfully slow.

  • Beginner-Friendly: Very easy to pick up and do well. If you’re a first-time player, you’ll find him perfect for you.
  • Great Power Without Gear: You don’t have to find BiS items for him to explore endgame content such as Hell farming or Uber bosses.
  • Average Magic Find: He’s too slow, so his MF rating is pretty low.
  • Damage is Below Ideal: While he’s strong and safe, he’s not the best damage dealer.

Necromancer isn’t the top of the food chain in Diablo 2, but he doesn’t need to be. Yeah, you won’t clear the Uber bosses in mere seconds or farm stages at light speed as Sorc, but you will win, no matter what, even at a slower pace.

Barbarian - B Tier Class

Believe it or not, Barbarian was probably the hardest class to rank. It’s a very divisive class in the sense that it excels in certain aspects and has virtually no competitors in it (like MF or gold farming), but struggles so hard with everything else.

  • Strong Endgame MF: If you’re looking for MF efficiency, no one comes near Barbarian in that role.
  • High Survivability: You’re unlikely to die. He’s tanky, maybe even too tanky. It comes in very handy in Hell runs.
  • Tough Progression: Barb needs lots of gear to be good, and you won’t get that early on.

While I don’t recommend using Barbarian for anything other than late-game Magic Find, I struggle to call him a bad class. He’s very situational, but you won’t regret leveling him. Just don’t make him your first character, maybe.

Druid - C Tier Class

Druid is your jack of all trades. He can survive, he can be fast, he can deal damage, etc. The problem is, he’s not good at any of these things. He’s great in Normal, as he starts out really powerful and clears enemies with ease, but in Hell, he starts to struggle a bit. He still clears these difficulties really well, but he’s not your top performer by any means. He won’t die a lot, though, as he is tanky and can use summons to win some time to stabilize. His MF rating is low. I’d say that it’s even worse than Necro’s. He’s kind of awkward to play with Tornado and Twister pathing, as it’s random. This means he’s also not good with Ubers. You can consider the Fury build if you need to farm Ubers, but it requires some skill and good gear.
