The War Within Skinning Changes

As we start our WoW Skinning guide, we want you to look at the list of changes coming in TWW for this profession. The most important feature is the introduction of new skins and hides:

• Stormcharged Leather
• Gloom Chitin
• Thunderous Hide
• Sunless Carapace

Additionally, you can loot four new species-specific crafting reagents, such as Bottled Storm, Burning Cinderbee Setae, Honed Bone Shards, and Kaheti Swarm Chitin. The first one comes from Storm Beasts, the second one drops from Bees, the third one is looted from Horn Mobs, and the fourth one comes from small Nerubians.

As a skinner, you want to know that you can gather Stormcharged Leather from Leathery Beasts. If you wish to obtain Gloom Chitin, look for Scaly Beasts.

The War Within Skinning Equipment

With the changes described above, the new expansion also introduces WoW The War Within Skinning equipment. It consists of two accessories and a tool providing you with extra stat bonuses. They can be anything like Deftness, Perception, and others.

Leveling Skinning in The War Within

Leveling Skinning in The War Within has become much harder due to lower mob density overall. While this does not change the way Skinning leveling works in nature, it will take you more time to get to level 100.

No matter what threshold you are at your Skinning 1-100 WoW The War Within journey, all beasts grant skill points. Unlike with Mining or Herbalism, you do not need to look for specific drops at a certain level to make your progression faster.

 

Best Places to Level Skinning in The War Within

Since you can take down any beasts to earn XP for Skinning, you only need to choose the most profitable spots. In this part of our WoW The War Within Skinning leveling guide, we will cover a few of the best places to level Skinning to get the maximum XP.

We will go over the two zones you want to focus on, such as:

• Azj-Kahet
• Hallowfall

Despite being large, we have only found one place in each zone to make a ton of experience indeed.

Azj-Kahet

In Azj-Kahet, farming Vigilant Nestguards at Pillar-Nest North is the best way to level Skinning in WoW TWW. They respawn quickly, and you can find enough of them for non-stop farming, moving from one camp to another.

Hallowfall

Moving to Hallowfall, you also have one decent spot for the fastest way to level Skinning WoW The War Within marked on the map. Similarly to the previous location, you will find plenty of beasts to skin there. Avoid taking down calf mobs too often, as they do not drop the leather you are after.

The War Within Best Skinning Spots

In this part of the guide, we will cover The War Within best Skinning spots for both Leather and Chitin. Both areas are located on The Isle of Dorn, yet quite far away from each other. Consider farming them depending on what material type you need more.

Best Spot for Farming Leather

Boulder Springs, particularly its northern part, is the best spot for farming Leather in TWW. It is full of Plainswalker Shalehorns and Ironhoof Shalehorns. Slaying them is a great opportunity not only to obtain the required material but to level Skinning along the way.

Best Spot for Farming Chitin

The coast not far from Dhar Oztan is the best spot for farming Chitin in TWW. You need to hunt for Mana-Flecked Crawlers waiting for you on a cove, which is a bit northern from this point. These mobs respawn quickly, and you are not likely to encounter many other players.

The War Within Skinning Specializations

As expected, the latest World of Warcraft expansion has brought three new The War Within Skinning specializations. Each one revolves around a specific theme (e.g., Luring allows you to lure Elusive creatures) and lets you build your character accordingly. Here is a full list of the brand-new specs for Skinning:

1. Tanning
2. Harvesting
3. Luring

Each specialization is unlocked when you reach a specific level in the profession. You can unlock the first one at level 25, the second at 50, and the third at 75. When progressing through each spec’s talent tree, you need to invest enough Knowledge Points to unlock new specs and sub-specs. BLOG20

Tanning

Tanning is the first specialization unlocked in Skinning in The War Within. This is the general tree that gives you bonuses to Skinning and lets you specialize in either Leather or Chitin. Those are the two basic materials you will find when skinning beasts around new zones.

Here is what you mainly use the Tanning specialization for in WoW:

• Learn to Sharpen Your Knife, guaranteeing hides from skinning.
• Refine lower-quality reagents into higher quality.
• Increase your Skill while skinning.

This is a great spec to unlock first to get all the standard bonuses and features this profession has to offer. We highly recommend going for it first if Skinning is what you prioritize in your gameplay.

Harvesting

Harvesting is the second specialization unlocked in Skinning in The War Within. You want to go for this spec to increase Perception to collect these rare hides or carapaces.

Here is what you mainly use the Harvesting specialization for in WoW:

• Gather meat for cooking from skinned creatures.
• Craft Lures used to target specific fish.
• Gather additional rare reagents from skinned creatures.
• Increase your Deftness, Finesse, and Perception while skinning.

As a rule, you want to max out it early on to ensure you always find the needed drop. The meat you obtain from slain creatures can also help you cook meals to use while leveling and exploring new zones.

Luring

Luring is the third specialization unlocked in Skinning in The War Within. This spec is back, and it lets you lure Elusive creatures again. They are a rarer version of beasts you can encounter and skin in WoW.

Here is what you mainly use the Harvesting specialization for in WoW:

• Create bait to lure creatures that yield rare materials when skinned.
• Increase your Deftness, Finesse, and Perception while skinning.
• Infuse bait with empowered energy found throughout Khaz Algar, allowing you to gather additional reagents.

As always, this spec is a more obvious choice for Hunters who want to tame the strongest beasts.

Best Skinning Builds in The War Within

Unlike crafting professions, Skinning cannot boast a too large variety of builds available. So far, we can only outline the two of them that are truly powerful and can make you useful. Here is a list of the best Skinning builds in The War Within:

• Tanning Build (Tanning + Harvesting + Luring)
• Luring Build (Luring + Harvesting)

None of these setups revolve around a particular specialization. Instead, they are a combination of all three specs with a particular order of learning each one.

Tanning Build

Tanning build is the best choice for those who aim to farm a lot and gather the rarest resources. We would recommend going for this setup for all players except for Hunters. They are more likely to go for the Luring build instead because of their pets.

Here is an example of what Tanning build node unlock priority can look like:

1. Tanning (40 Points)
2. Either Concrete Chitin (40 Points) or Luxurious Leathers (40 Points)
3. Harvesting (10 Points)
4. Trophy Take (40 Points)
5. Luring (10 Points)
6. Impressive Infuser (40 Points)

This build benefits a lot from Deftness, as it lets you pick up dropped materials much faster.

Luring Build

Luring build is the best option for Hunters or those players who do not consider Skinning as their main profession. It focuses on summoning rare mobs to loot precious material like Superb Beast Fang and others. The material we have just mentioned only drops once per day and costs a lot on the AH.

Here is an example of what Luring build node unlock priority can look like:

1. Luring (10 Points)
2. Trained Tracker (40 Points)
3. Tanning (40 Points)
4. Luring (+30 Points)
5. Impressive Infuser (40 Points)
6. Either Concrete Chitin (40 Points) or Luxurious Leathers (40 Points)
7. Trophy Taker (40 Points)
8. Meat Carver (40 Points)

When progressing through this build, you will have 3 charges of Sharpen Your Knife. Make sure they are always used on cooldown. You get 1 charge every 1 hour. BLOG20

Skinning Trainers in The War Within

Learning Skinning is possible by either visiting special NPCs or by skinning a beast in Khaz Algar if you already know this profession from Dragonflight. If you wish to learn the profession from scratch, you will have to visit one of the following Skinning Trainers in The War Within:

• Phyo'rne - Azj-Kahet, City of Threads, Umbral Bazaar /way #2216 42.6 20.1

The War Within Skinning Treasures

Making Gold with Skinning in The War Within

While Skinning is a less popular choice for making gold compared to other gathering professions, it is still a viable option. You can loot rare skins to sell them on the AH straight away or use them to craft recipes with Leatherworking, for example. Consider saving enough resources to sell them to leather crafters during raid days.

If you wish to make much profit from Skinning, our best recommendation is to specialize in Tanning. It has Luxurious Leathers and Concrete Chitin sub-spec, allowing you to refine skins and hides. Quality level 2-3 resources are sold for more gold and it is easier to find a person who is ready to pay for them.

Best Race for Skinning in The War Within

The best race for Herbalism in WoW The War Within is Worgen, especially when playing as a BM Hunter or Guardian Druid. They feature increased skinning skill by default and can skin defeated beasts much faster.

Dracthyr would be another great pick for Skinning due to generally increased Perception stat. They also have a unique mobility ability, allowing you to move from one gathering spot to another much faster compared to other races.
