AION 2 Sorcerer Class Guide

Sorcerer is one of the coolest classes in the game so far, but it’s not the most intuitive one. I made this AION 2 Sorcerer Class Guide to help you understand all the nuances and ensure that you can unleash its full potential.

AION 2 Sorcerer Class Guide Quick Overview:

  • Sorcerer is a ranged magic DPS class that is all about dealing heavy burst damage with Hellfire and finding ways to cast it as often as possible.
  • A lot of Sorcerer’s spells synergize with each other to reduce cooldowns and enable seamless spellcasting.
  • Sorcerer’s mobility is lacking, and you’ll need to think a lot about your positioning, since your complicated multi-skill combos demand it.

AION 2 Sorcerer Class Overview

In the current patch, Sorcerer is the single best ranged DPS in the entire game, which is quite a great spot to be in. It is solid at both PvE and PvP, although optimizing the class is a bit complicated, and the rotation itself requires a good understanding of each Skill’s unique utility. If you’re committed to the idea of spamming crazy elemental spells and feeling smart about it, Sorcerer will fit you like a glove.

In combat, Sorcerer relies on two types of spells:

  • Fire spells are all about damage, and most of them are just variations of “hit this guy hard”. When they offer utility, it is mostly about buffing yourself to hit that poor guy even harder.
  • Water/Frost spells, on the other hand, are the polar opposite, usually offering CC and extra layers of protection. Essentially, Fire is your offense, Water is your defense.

Now, in the later stages of the game, the synergy between your abilities gets even better, since some Skills will reduce the cooldowns of other Skills, enabling you to create long, complicated spell sequences for non-stop DPS spam — as long as you do everything correctly. This is probably the trickiest aspect of the Sorcerer class, but I’ve got you covered — just follow my rotation, and you’ll squeeze the most out of your character.

Sorcerer isn’t a mobile class at all, so aside from weaving your spells correctly, positioning is going to be your utmost priority at any given moment. While you do have defensive options in your kit, you mostly shine as a DPS, and the better your position is, the easier it is to do your job.

Treat yourself like a turret — find the perfect spot in combat and stand there as long as you can while spewing spells. The more you move, the lower your overall DPS will be because of broken sequences. Avoid it as much as you can — but make sure not to die if things get too heated.

Best Sorcerer Build in AION 2

The most stable and efficient Sorcerer builds in AION 2 right now rely on Hellfire combos, which is why you should do exactly that as well. When you first read spell descriptions, some of my choices might feel a bit unintuitive, but I’ll provide all the explanations in further sections.

Sorcerer Leveling Build

With Sorcerer, the main issue is that the final version of the build is all about having a bunch of level 16 Skills that reduce each other’s cooldowns, enabling rapid-succession spellcasting.

Before you get there, you will find yourself spamming your Flame Arrow and other low-cooldown abilities while you wait for your true DPS abilities to reset after a single use. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t prioritize spells like Hellfire and Winter’s Shackles — it just means that getting to the best version of you will take some time.

The most important thing I can say concerns Wish of Concentration — a self-buff ability that is used as the final spell in the rotation despite it feeling weird. Don’t use it that way before you hit level 16 on it and get the Cooldown Reduction Specialty — it won’t make any sense, and you will lose out on potential damage increases.

Admittedly, it’s probably not that big of an issue, but the rotation truly only starts making sense later on. Before that, you will minimize a lot of downtime by using what’s available — as long as it doesn’t completely screw up potential combo opportunities. It comes with practice, but understanding how each puzzle piece enables the other is very important, so please make sure to read each ability’s description fully before playing Sorcerer, or you’ll end up spending many hours (or even days) dealing suboptimal damage.

Best Sorcerer Skills and Specialties

Most of what you’ll be doing as a Sorcerer is optimizing your DPS through reducing cooldowns and time spent locked in animations. Your combo does incredible damage, and you are mostly limited by the amount of time some of the skills stay inactive. You are nowhere near as threatening during the downtime, so mitigating that issue is the end goal here.

Hellfire

Hellfire is a heavyweight nuke that also staggers enemies on hit. It is by far your most powerful spell, and you will have to rely on it to deal with all of the serious threats throughout your playthrough. It comes with several significant disadvantages that you’ll have to overcome to make it fully viable.

First off, Hellfire has an absurd 45-second cooldown, which makes it not very useful before you can find ways to reduce it to something more manageable. Luckily, the skill itself offers a -15s cooldown Specialty at level 16, and there are other spells that can be used to decrease it further.

Another issue is its cast time. While some people suggest turning it into a Mobile skill, I believe that getting +30% Skill Speed is more valuable, because the Sorcerer doesn’t want to run around the battlefield anyway. I would rather stand still for a shorter period of time than try to mix and match skills that allow movement with the ones that don’t into a cohesive combo.

Firestorm

Firestorm is one of the four combo support spells that you get as a Sorcerer. It also deals some nice damage. Your goal is to get the Specialty that reduces Hellfire cooldown so that you can cast it more often. Considering what it does, it is a bit expensive in terms of MP, but you’ll just have to deal with it — it’s not like you have a choice.

Flame Arrow

Flame Arrow is one of your two basic skills, and it restores a lot of mana on hit. If you land three Flame Arrows in a row, you trigger Pyroclasm, which increases your fire damage output. Essentially, you want to max it for two reasons. First is that it offers a Specialty that resets the cooldown of your Blaze, which will be very important for your rotation. The other reason to max it is that when most of your spells go on cooldown, there’s nothing better to use anyway.

Bittercold Wind

Bittercold Wind is surprisingly decent as a source of AoE damage, especially considering that it’s not one of your Fire spells. Adding it to your rotation feels natural, which is why so many players end up doing it.

Blaze

Blaze is mostly in the rotation because of its Specialty, which reduces the cooldown for Wish of Concentration, which, in turn, helps with the rest of your cooldowns. The fact that it deals damage and restores some MP on top is just a nice addition to a spell which would be included regardless of it.

Flame Scattershot

Flame Scattershot is mostly an additional tool to use when you really need someone staggered. It has a nice cooldown reduction Specialty at level 16, but your other skills are more important, and they can form a generally better and more cohesive combo.

Winter’s Shackles

Winter’s Shackles are mostly there to enable you by providing some extra PvE and PvP damage boosts. On its own, it’s not bad, but you don’t really want to build much around it or try too hard to make it work as something more than an enabler spell.

Wish of Concentration

Wish of Concentration is one of the cornerstones of the rotation despite not being that important as a buff. You don’t really cast it for the effect itself, but rather for the Specialty that reduces all of your skills’ cooldowns by a whole 10 seconds. Wish of Concentration enables many pieces of your combo, some of which, in turn, enable Wish of Concentration, creating a very rewarding loop.

Best Sorcerer Stigmas

With Sorcerer, Stigmas are fairly simple: you have two Skills that are used by literally every single build, and the rest is just sort of there. So, you pick the mandatory Skills and then choose whatever feels decent enough to implement into your routine. Here’s what I recommend.

Stigma

Investment Priority

Effect

Element Enhancement

Highest

Increases the caster's Fire Attack by 20% and Water Attack by 20% for Xs.

Delayed Explosion

Highest

Deals X Fire damage to a target within 20m after 4s. Increases damage taken from the caster by 15% during the delay.

Fire Wall

Medium

Summon a Fire Wall that lasts for 3s at the location of a target within 20m. Deals X Fire damage and inflicts Embers on up to 4 enemies within the Fire Wall area (1x10m) for 10s.

Embers: Deals Y Fire Damage over Time every 1s for 10s. Damage over Time amount increases when targets move.

Cold Storm

Medium

Select a target within 20m and deal X Water damage and inflict Slow on up to 4 enemies within 5m. Summons a Cold Storm that lasts for 7s on the target's location and inflicts Frostbite.

Frostbite: Deals Y Water Damage over Time every 1s for 10s. Damage over Time amount increases when targets move.

Element Enhancement

Element Enhancement is a very straightforward buff for your damage, and not taking it is just an incorrect decision. There is no reason to give up on a 20% DPS increase that comes at basically no cost. Make sure you cast it first at every opportunity.

Delayed Explosion

Delayed Explosion is one of the most interesting Sorcerer abilities, because it puts you on a timer: just how many spells can you cast in four seconds to get the extra damage bonus? In my opinion, this spell is a major reason why skill speed is far better on Sorcerer than mobility, and I believe that you will learn to appreciate its contribution to your overall DPS.

Fire Wall

Fire Wall feels a bit underrated in the community, but I feel like the spell is genuinely a good addition to your build. It has great damage, the AoE is huge, even if the shape is a bit weird, and you don’t have to think too much to use it well. I include Fire Wall in the build because the alternatives cannot really replace its role and impact in the rotation.

Cold Storm

I add Cold Storm as an overall nice spell that offers AoE damage and CC, but I’ve seen other builds including a different Stigma skill in that last slot. This is not a hill I would die on — if you’re feeling like you have better results with other Stigmas, feel free to choose them over this one.

Best Sorcerer Passive Skills

Sorcerer has a bunch of offensive passives, which are useful, and a few defensive ones, most of which are not very helpful. You can easily guess what I’m about to recommend to you next.

Icon

Passive

Priority

Effect

Robe of Earth

Highest

Increases Max MP by X% and Natural MP Regen by Y. Increases Critical Hit by Z when MP is 50% or more.

Grace of Enhancement

Highest

Increases the caster's PvE Damage Boost by 20% and PvP Damage Boost by 10% when the caster's MP is 25% or more and has a 50% chance to deal X damage on landing an attack.

Cooldown: 1s

Fire Mark

High

Has a 20% chance to inflict Fire Mark for 5s on landing a Fire attack.

Fire Mark: Has a 20% chance to take X extra damage when taking Fire damage while afflicted with Fire Mark.

Cooldown: 1s

Robe of Flame

High

Increases the caster's Accuracy by 100, PvE Damage Boost by X%, PvP Damage Boost by Y%, and Double Chance by Z%.

Robe of Cold

High

Increases the caster's Defense by A% and Critical Hit Resist by B and inflicts Slow when struck by an enemy, which reduces the target's Move Speed by C% for Ds.

Cooldown: 10s

Robe of Earth

Sorcerer is incredibly mana-dependent, and a passive like Robe of Earth is basically mandatory if you expect consistent damage output, especially in the later stages of the game. Spamming a bunch of spells, reducing cooldowns, and spamming them again is very expensive, and you will need all the help you can get.

Grace of Enhancement

As usual, any buffs to your PvE and PvP damage are just too good to pass on. Grace of Enhancement is conditional, sure, but Robe of Earth will help you keep the MP pool high enough, and even if you can’t sustain yourself above 25% MP at all times, it’s still a decent bonus to your overall damage output throughout the game.

Fire Mark

Fire Mark is mostly good during the early stages of the game thanks to its additional damage bonus. It loses a bit of its utility later on, but it’s still preferable to several other Sorcerer passives, so you’re going to keep it anyway.

Robe of Flame

Once again, an Accuracy increase combined with additional PvE and PvP damage boosts is great. In fact, you would probably prefer several Robe of Flame-like passives instead of a few defensive ones in your kit. It is what it is, however — it’s not like you lack damage anyway, so let’s not set unreasonable expectations.

Robe of Cold

Robe of Cold is your best defensive passive. It basically is a solid overall buff with the added benefit of slowing any enemy that attacks you. Once again, you might’ve wanted another damage buff instead, I know, but this is the next best thing, I promise.

AION 2 Sorcerer PvE Rotation

This rotation might seem like a lot at first, so I’ll explain the basic formula beforehand: self buffs — Hellfire and other damage spells — cooldown-reducing spells. Rinse and repeat. Here’s how it looks in detail.

  • You open up with Element Enhancement since it literally makes all of your spells better.
  • Delayed Explosion goes as your first offensive spell because it creates a four-second window of increased spell damage, and the rest of your spells will fit right into it.
  • Winter’s Shackles provides you with an extra +20% PvE and +10% PvP Damage Boost for 5s thanks to its specialty, further increasing the final output.
  • Hellfire comes into play, dealing an absurd amount of damage thanks to all the preparation put into making it count.
  • Follow up with Fire Wall + Cold Storm for extra damage.
  • Finally, combo Bittercold Wind + Blaze + Firestorm and finish with Wish of Concentration to reduce the cooldowns of all of your abilities and get ready to repeat the entire rotation.

If your abilities are still on cooldown despite all the reductions, use Flame Arrow as an intermittent source of sustained damage. If you really need to stagger someone (or, if you somehow managed to get it to level 16, reduce cooldowns even further), Flame Scattershot has your back.

Best Sorcerer Macros

Most of your macros aren’t going to be particularly long, but you’ll need to create several of them and always press them in the correct order.

I believe that there is no reason to put Element Enhancement into a macro and personally prefer keeping it on a separate hotkey for convenience and immediate availability. I think that Hellfire is also better kept separate from the rest of the kit due to how committal and important the spell is.

The first macro is about two skills that you want to cast in quick succession to ensure 100% efficiency. The time limit set by Delayed Explosion makes it important to shave even a few moments off what it would take to press an extra button.

Priority

Skill

0

Delayed Explosion

1

Winter Shackles

Your next macro is the follow-up to Hellfire, which is just more damage for fewer button presses. No need to have these two as separate inputs. If macros allowed placing six abilities in a row, this wouldn’t be a separate setup — you would just shove it into the final one.

Priority

Skill

Fire Wall

Cold Storm

Finally, your only four-skill macro is the rotation finisher, mostly implemented for cooldown reduction and resetting the combo. Since all of these spells are mostly used for utility and you really want to have four of them cast as quickly and reliably as possible, putting them all in a single macro is the perfect solution.

Sorcerer PvP Build

Sorcerer is still a great class in PvP, but playing against human opponents is much less predictable and straightforward. Going all-in on damage can bite you if someone gets to you quickly enough, since you are very squishy and have no real mobility skills to press in panic mode.

In general, there are two approaches which prove to be more or less effective depending on what you’re doing. One approach is relying on your allies to do a good job on the frontline so that you can cast your nukes and debuffs relatively unbothered. This really depends on how experienced you, your allies, and your enemies are, so I wouldn’t expect great results in higher ranks.

Another approach is improving your defenses and leaning into a more hybrid playstyle, as well as adding at least one panic button Skill. You will still do a lot of damage, and you’ll get to live a little bit longer if someone decides to focus-fire your character.

Steel Barrier, Arctic Armor, and Hibernation are your best defensive tools, so maybe incorporate them into your PvP routine and see how that works out. On the utility side of things, you get a bunch of annoying slows, and you can also spec into -60% Incoming Healing on Firestorm to cause a lot of grief to the enemy ranks.

Best Sorcerer Stats

Sorcerer is all about hitting these massive spell combos, and there’s nothing more devastating than missing a skill. That’s why Accuracy is always going to be your number one priority. Remember that you have a lot of damage already, so your primary goal is to be able to dish it out consistently rather than increase it.

Stat

Priority

Description

Accuracy

Very High

Prevents attack from missing. Offset by target's Evasion and Block.

Combat Speed

High

Increases attack speed and skill action speed.

Cooldown Reduction

High

Reduces ability cooldowns.

Critical Strike

Medium

Increases the chance of landing a Critical Hit. Offset by the target's Critical Hit Resist.

Attack

Medium

Higher Attack increases damage dealt.

Both Cooldown Reduction and Combat Speed are very helpful for that purpose, considering how many of your spells are high-commitment. The more of them you can use in the fight without having to sacrifice your positioning too much, the better you’ll do as a Sorcerer.

Finally, as is true for basically any other class in the game, increasing Attack and Critical Strike is just a simple and solid solution to most of your problems. It will especially help you during the early and mid-stages of the game, when most of your spells will go on long cooldowns, yet you will still be expected to deal a lot of damage in combat.

Best Sorcerer Gear

In general, just check in with the best stats section from this guide. Gear isn’t that complicated, after all. Your weapon should provide good boosts to Combat Speed — after that, Weapon Damage Boost, Might, and Multi-Hit Chance are solid.

As for your armor pieces (Helmet, Shoulders, Chest, Gloves), you mostly want Double Chance, Perfect Chance, and Attack. Ideally, these pieces should boost your Robe of Flame — probably the best passive to focus on thanks to its inherent Accuracy bonus and damage increase.

Jewelry follows a similar pattern — Precision, Might, Robe of Flame, and Combat Speed are what you’re looking for.

Best Sorcerer Daevanion Boards

I won’t get tired of saying that Daevanion Boards might look interesting at a glance, but you end up doing the exact same thing with every single class, and Sorcerer is no exception.

First, you focus on your most important Active skills: Hellfire, Firestorm, Wish of Concentration, Blaze, and so on. Then come the passives. You take all useful orange nodes when you can.

This is especially true for Nezekan (percentage-based Combat Speed and Cooldown Reduction boosts are awesome) and Ariel (PvE damage is also very cool). Don’t bother with defensive stats, especially on orange nodes — it’s a waste.

Remember that gray nodes are essentially filler, so don’t think too much about them and focus on finding the shortest route to the nodes that you actually need.

F.A.Q.

Is Sorcerer the best class in AION 2?

Sorcerer is the best ranged DPS class in AION 2 currently, but while it’s great in PvE, it isn’t strictly top-tier in PvP. Overall, the class is really powerful, and there are no reasons to avoid playing it given the state of the meta.

What is the best Sorcerer Skill in AION 2?

Hellfire is by far your most important Skill — it is essentially responsible for the majority of your damage. That said, Hellfire isn’t all that great on its own — the current version of Sorcerer relies on a bunch of other Skills like Wish of Concentration and Firestorm to reduce its long cooldown. While Sorcerer’s current identity is built around Hellfire, you will have to rely on mastering multi-Skill combos to truly become the best ranged DPS in the game.

Is Sorcerer easy to play in AION 2?

Playing Sorcerer in general isn’t particularly challenging, but doing so optimally is rather difficult. As a Sorcerer, you don’t get a lot of mobility tools, and moving yourself away from danger means losing out on DPS. Another issue is that you rely on convoluted combos to truly threaten your enemies, so you’ll need to learn how all of the Skills interact with each other and then consistently apply that knowledge in combat.

What are the best Sorcerer Stigmas in AION 2?

Sorcerer has two amazing Stigmas that are used in most meta builds at the moment. Element Enhancement is a great damage buff that you will end up using all the time. Delayed Explosion is a spell that deals damage after a 4-second delay and increases the damage taken by the target during that period. You can see why most rotations open with these two spells.
