TBC Classic Anniversary Engineering Overview
Let’s start with a brief TBC Classic Anniversary Engineering overview. Engineering is a profession that aims to excel at one thing. This thing is PvP. With a plethora of various gadgets, such as bombs, trinkets, scopes, and other tools that help you in this content, you’ll have an upper hand over everybody else in the arenas. If this is your goal, then choosing Engineering is a no-brainer. Engineering also has two specializations that push your potential even further:
- Gnomish: Gnomish engineering specialises in utility. Includes such items as Gnomish Death Ray, Gnomish Battle Chicken, and Gnomish Goggles.
- Goblin: This engineering focuses on creating explosives. Popular items are the Goblin Construction Helmet and the Goblin Sapper Charge.
To get either of these, you’ll need to complete their respective quests. They are both quite good, but if you level your profession specifically for monetary gain, Goblin is the best specialization for Engineering in TBC. I personally prefer Gnomish, cause you can pop the Battle Chicken at the beginning of the combat and then switch to another trinket, doubling your effectiveness. I also just use Zapthrottle Mote Extractor to make money, so Goblin spec isn’t something I consider all that useful for myself.
If you’re still thinking if you should try this profession, look at its pros and cons:
Pros
- Amazing Situational Items: Arcane Bomb, Force Reactive Disk, Field Repair Bot 74A, Powerful Seaforium Charge - all of these make Engineering a top profession.
- Preparation Saves Money: If you have all the materials prepared, this is a pretty cheap and fast profession to level.
- Decent Money Maker in TBC: Before TBC, Engineering wasn’t that profitable, but with the introduction of a Turbo-Charged Flying Machine in TBC that changed.
Cons
- Expensive Mats: If you haven’t prepared the materials beforehand, expect to waste a small fortune. Or a big fortune, even.
- Crafting Popular Items is Expensive: Basically, what it says. To craft a Turbo-Charged Flying Machine, you need rare and expensive mats. Lots of them, if you want to sell well.
- Purely PvP: There are few to no items that are actually useful in PvE. If you’re mainly a PvE player, this profession isn’t for you.
To sum up our overview of the class, let’s take a quick glance at the class that works with Engineering perfectly. The best class for Engineering in TBC Anniversary that profits most from maining it is the Hunter. It synergizes best with Engineering, allowing them to create guns and scopes. A self-sustaining PvP machine, if you will. While other classes benefit from Engineering to some extent, none stand out like Hunter. Especially a Gnome Hunter. Gnome is TBC Classic Anniversary best race for Engineering. That’s because they get a racial skill called Engineering Specialization. Very subtle. It gives them a +15 bonus to the Engineering skill. They’re an obvious choice if you want an Engineer character. Now that this introduction is finished, let’s cover the shopping list and the leveling. BLOG20
TBC Anniversary Engineering Leveling Guide
With the right materials, getting to level 300 doesn’t take that long, like an hour or so is an average time, minus all the traversal. With all materials gathered, you can now move straight into the Engineering leveling. Having every bar, cloth, and element ready removes tedious grind and prevents skill gaps caused by missing components. The sections below walk through each skill bracket step by step, showing exactly what to craft, when to switch recipes, and how to move efficiently from 1 to 375 without unnecessary backtracking or wasted materials. For levels 260-285, you will need to buy a Schematic: Thorium Widget first. You can purchase it from Gearcutter Cogspinner in Ironforge or Sovik in Orgrimmar. You’ll also need to learn Thorium Shells, but their schematics are a world drop. Though other guides recommend making Thorium Tubes if you can’t access Shells, I recommend focusing on getting them, as they’re a big boost to any Hunter’s damage, plus you can sell them, unlike most other items that can be of interest only to other Engineers. Schematics: Thorium Tubes drops the best in Blackrock Depths, Scholomance, Stratholme & Dire Maul. Now let’s move on to TBC Anniversary Engineering leveling 300-375:

|
|
360–370 |
Adamantite Rifle x15 |

|
370–375 |
Adamantite Bar x40, Handful of Fel Iron Bolts x40, Khorium Power Core x5 |
TBC levels are pretty straightforward, albeit even more costly. As I mentioned before, some of the items may require you to craft more or fewer of them to increase your level. Schematic: White Smoke Flare and Schematic: Adamantite Rifle should be purchased beforehand. You can purchase the first one from Wind Trader Lathrai, and the second one from Viggz Shinesparked, both in Shattrath City.
TBC Classic Anniversary Engineering Trainers
With an important change in TBC, you don’t need to look for different trainers to teach you different levels of Engineering. Now, any one of them can do that. Below, I’ll provide a list of all trainers who can teach you from Apprentice to Artisan level. Here are all TBC Classic Anniversary Engineering trainers:
Alliance

The change to the trainers is more than welcome, as remembering the location of each specific trainer for your level of the profession was immersive, yet such a bother. Sometimes, it’s better to be convenient than realistic.
Gnomish vs Goblin Engineering Specializations
Engineering is among the professions that have specializations. It’s not as boring and straightforward as something like Alchemy specializations, because it gives you different Schematics according to what spec you choose. As with all specializations, you’ll need to finish the questline in order to get a chosen mastery. Below, I’ll provide an explanation on how to get TBC Classic Anniversary Engineering specializations.
Gnomish Engineering Specialization
First, you need to pick up the Gnome Engineering quest from Springspindle Fizzlegear for Alliance, or Tinkerwiz for Horde. Then you need to go to Tinkmaster Overspark or Oglethorpe Obnoticus for Alliance and Horde, respectively. Talk to them, and they’ll give you the quest called The Pledge of Secrecy. Click on the Overspark’s Pledge of Secrecy to complete the quest and accept the Show Your Work quest. In it, you’ll need to deliver the following items:
After that, the quest will be complete, and you’ll be able to learn Gnomish schematics from Tinkmaster Overspark or Oglethorpe Obnoticus.
Goblin Engineering Specialization
The Goblin Engineering quest can be picked up from the same person for Alliance and Horde. Here are the steps to get this mastery:
- Take the Goblin Engineering quest from Tinkerwiz.
- Go to Gadgetzan and take The Pledge of Secrecy from Nixx Sprocketspring.
- Right-click the Nixx’s Pledge of Secrecy and finish the quest.
After that, you’ll be given Show Your Work, but unlike in the Gnomish variation, it requires different items to be delivered:
- Big Iron Bomb x20
- Solid Dynamite x20
- Explosive Sheep x5
Both specs can be quite pricey to learn and require you to be at least level 30 and have 200 in Engineering. However, the schematics that they offer are really good for your character, so it’s highly recommended to master at least one of them.
