Grim Dawn Best Class Tier List 2026 Quick Summary:
- Warder, Reaper, Dervish, Spellbinder, Conjurer, and Sentinel are the best classes in Grim Dawn right now.
- Warder is my best overall pick because it has damage, tankiness, sustain, and beginner-friendly build paths.
- Reaper and Dervish are stronger if you want faster, more aggressive gameplay.
- Spellbinder is the best caster class if you want high damage and defensive panic buttons.
- Conjurer is still one of the safest choices for pets, vitality builds, and solo play.
- Berserker is not ranked yet because Fangs of Asterkarn launches on July 23, 2026, and ranking unreleased builds is how bad tier lists are born. Crate’s official guide lists Berserker as part of the Fangs expansion, while Crate’s release post says the new mastery raises total class combinations to 45.

How This Grim Dawn Tier List Works
Before we dive into the tier list, let me clear up a few things. When I consider the positioning of a class, I take into account the softcore builds, not hardcore, since most people play softcore. Besides that, this tier list is based on four main things:
- Endgame Potential: How well the class performs in Shattered Realm, Crucible, and superboss fights
- Build Variety: If the class has multiple strong builds or just one decent
- Leveling Comfort: Some classes are great at level 100 but are extremely harsh before that
- Gear Accessibility: It’s hugely important that the class can work without a double rare drop
Mandatory disclaimer: Grim Dawn is extremely build-dependent. A C-Tier class is still a decent class that can beat the game and endgame activities with no problem, but it won’t be an absolute performance monster like S-Tier classes. S-Tier most of the time requires you to level it right and use specific items, as well as track the stats and resistances on your gear. I know I said that I took gear accessibility as one of the key factors, but some classes just work insanely well with them.
Grim Dawn Best Class Tier List 2026

The top of the list won’t surprise you if you’ve been playing Grim Dawn for some time. Warder is the best class in 2026 cause you can do pretty much any type of endgame content even with average items. Reaper gets into the top 3 because of the number of great builds it has, which, as you remember, is one of the key factors. Though Spellbinder is a class most people consider to be quite tricky to use, it’s very strong, and if you learn how to play it, chances are you’ll fall in love with it quickly. Now take a look at Grim Dawn’s best class tier list for 2026:
|
Tier |
Classes |
|
S-Tier |
Warder, Reaper, Dervish, Spellbinder, Conjurer, Sentinel |
|
A-Tier |
Shieldbreaker, Cabalist, Ritualist, Purifier, Witch Hunter, Blademaster, Oppressor, Archon |
|
B-Tier |
Warlord, Death Knight, Tactician, Vindicator, Infiltrator, Deceiver, Mage Hunter, Druid, Paladin |
|
C-Tier |
Sorcerer, Warlock, Pyromancer, Trickster, Elementalist, Battlemage, Templar, Witchblade, Spellbreaker, Apostate |
|
D-Tier |
Commando, Defiler, Saboteur |
Right now, the strongest classes are the ones that have the strongest endgame builds, aren’t quite squishy (well, with some exceptions), and have enough gear variety to let you transfer to the endgame more easily. Don’t you just hate it when you have to wait for one Legendary drop to start your build going and RNG just screws you over? Well, that’s why Warder, Reaper, Dervish, Spellbinder, Conjurer, and Sentinel land in S-Tier. You have a wide choice of options with them. Oh, and a quick note - I won’t be explaining classes below S-Tier, since people just look for these articles to find out who’s the strongest and to consider a build progression.
S-Tier Classes in Grim Dawn
All of the classes in S-Tier are very strong, but that means they can be nerfed first. Don’t worry, though. the chances of the devs nerfing fan-favorite classes to the ground are quite low. At least I hope so. At worst, they’ll drop a tier or two, but they will still be viable. Some of the classes are better for beginners, some are better for endgame farming, but all of them have reasons to be present at S-Tier. Let’s start.
Warder - S-Tier
Warder is the best overall class in Grim Dawn. Soldier + Shaman is quite a simple yet fun combo. That’s part of why it’s so good. You’re very hard to kill and have a good choice of equipment and builds, plus your high HP pool and sustain will make it much more forgiving to make mistakes. Grim Dawn just loves punishing mistakes in the endgame, so you’ll definitely appreciate it. The current Top 20 Softcore builds list placed Dawnbreaker Warder at number one, and I’m not going to lie, that’s a huge reason why I rate the class this highly. It’s great for farming, is durable, and does not need the most OP gear in the game to function. Here’s why Warder is S-Tier:
- Very tanky
- Strong solo class
- Good for beginners
- Great sustain
- Strong endgame builds
- Does not require you to have a Starcraft 2 level APM
If someone asked me for advice on one Grim Dawn class to start with, I’d say Warder. It’s not the flashiest, but it gets the job done without you playing piano on your keyboard.
Reaper - S-Tier
Reaper is one of the strongest 2026 meta classes. Nightblade + Necromancer has a lot going for it: Phantasmal Blades, Drain Essence, sustain, great mobility, and multiple strong endgame builds. Why Reaper is S-Tier:
- Excellent damage
- Great sustain
- Strong mobility
- Multiple builds
- Works as melee and caster
- One of the best aggressive classes
The only reason I wouldn’t recommend Reaper to every beginner is that it can be more demanding than Warder. You need to understand positioning and know how to gear correctly. It’s also very important that you have a clear idea of what damage type you’re building around. Usually it’s cold damage for the Reaper. But once it clicks, Reaper is disgusting in a good way.
Dervish - S-Tier
Dervish is fast, aggressive, and extremely good at farming. Nightblade + Oathkeeper gives you mobility, acid support, and poison damage, along with strong defense. The offense in this class is also quite interesting. Brutallax Dervish was ranked second in the Crate forum Top 20 list and described as one of the fastest SR farmers there. If it doesn’t tell you much, just know that it’s very hard for people to come to consensus there. Why Dervish is S-Tier:
- One of the best farming speeds
- Great acid and poison support
- Very mobile class
- Damage can scale almost infinitely
- Several strong endgame builds
- Very fun if you like aggressive, yet unusual playstyle
The obvious downside is gear. It’s one of those classes, yeah. Some of the best Dervish builds are neither cheap nor beginner-friendly. If you already have gear, Dervish is one of the best classes in the game. If you’re starting fresh, maybe consider some other class first.
Spellbinder - S-Tier
Spellbinder is the best caster class in Grim Dawn, hands down. Arcanist + Necromancer combo is good for damage, sustain, and it also has the best panic buttons in the game. Mirror of Ereoctes alone is worth a lot. With Necromancer’s sustain, it’s far from a glass cannon class. Uroboruuk Spellbinder and Clairvoyant Spellbinder both show up in current endgame build discussions, especially around Drain Essence and AAR gameplay. Why Spellbinder is S-Tier:
- If you like playing casters, this is the best choice
- Great defensive abilities
- Soaking damage quite well
- Good for bossing
- Safer than other high-damage casters
Spellbinder is not always the fastest farmer, but it is strong and reliable. As I already said, it’s not the easiest class to play for, but I recommend learning it. It won’t take that much time, plus you’re likely to like it even more if you enjoy complexity. I’m just a big Spellbinder enjoyer myself, that’s why I advertise it that hard.
Conjurer - S-Tier
If you want a less risky class with good defense, Conjurer is your choice. Occultist + Shaman has pets, which is already a big draw in itself. Add vitality damage, curses, sustain, resistances, and you get a solo king. If you like summoner classes, Conjurer is your choice. Why Conjurer is S-Tier:
- Funny pets kill monsters
- Vitality builds galore
- Sustain
- One of the best solo classes
- Beginner-friendly
- Multiple build paths
If you like playing the game while watching something on YouTube or a TV series, Conjurer will work like a charm. This class is very reliable, but I can see how it can feel kinda lazy. If you enjoy more active gameplay, you’ll get bored quickly.
Sentinel - S-Tier
Sentinel is a paradoxical class. Like when you think about comboing Occultist and Oathkeeper, you’d likely think it won’t work because of two completely opposite mastery designs. It’s a very flexible class, but it’s very clunky and counterintuitive. Nonetheless, it’s probably the most unique class I have ever played in any ARPG, granted I haven’t played PoE2 much. The problem with this class is that you’ll need certain gear that will convert your Oathkeeper damage to Occultist damage, cause this build mostly does damage with Occultist’s skills. Why Sentinel is S-Tier:
- Strong acid and poison builds
- Good vitality
- Great mobility
- Dreeg’s Evil Eye is super strong on this class
- Probably the most flexible class in the game
Add something like the Sentinel of the Three set that changes Vire’s Might and makes you dash through enemies to deal damage instead of outright fighting them, and you can see why this is an oddball choice. In my book, it only makes it more interesting and exciting to play. If you’re tired of playing your typical caster or melee, Sentinel can feel strange at first, but stick to it and you’ll get the appeal. It’s the kind of class that looks questionable on paper, but in practice works like a charm.
How Grim Dawn Classes Work
Grim Dawn technically has masteries, not classes. They’re not very different from your standard RPG classes, but the key difference is that you choose them during your leveling and not at the character creation screen. You choose one mastery first, then later choose a second one. That combination creates a class. I won’t go into each mastery combo in detail, but here are some examples:
|
Mastery Combination |
Final Class |
|
Soldier + Shaman |
Warder |
|
Nightblade + Oathkeeper |
Dervish |
|
Nightblade + Necromancer |
Reaper |
|
Arcanist + Necromancer |
Spellbinder |
|
Occultist + Shaman |
Conjurer |
|
Occultist + Oathkeeper |
Sentinel |
|
Soldier + Necromancer |
Death Knight |
|
Soldier + Oathkeeper |
Warlord |
|
Demolitionist + Inquisitor |
Purifier |
|
Occultist + Necromancer |
Cabalist |
So when I say “best Grim Dawn classes,” I’m talking about these dual-mastery combinations. I probably should’ve written about that earlier to avoid confusion, but I guess you could understand what I mean from the descriptions of mastery combinations.

My personal top 5 Grim Dawn classes in 2026 would be:
- Warder
- Reaper
- Dervish
- Spellbinder
- Conjurer
That may change after Fangs of Asterkarn launches and Berserker's release. A new mastery always shifts the meta, so this is likely to be the case with this one. For now, Warder is my number one. It has everything you could wish for and is overtuned, surely, but it seems to me that this is the class for people to try Grim Dawn and not get frustrated from its depth and complexity.
