Best Classes in DRG Rogue Core
In DRG Rogue Core, you have 5 classes (with more surely planned for future updates), and when you play in a full stack of 4 players, you’ll be enjoying the benefits of all classes, with one of them, obviously, being left out for another session. So, I’m not going to drop an absolutely degenerate take on the best classes. But if you’re playing solo or with just one friend, you actually need to think hard as to which class to play. The DRG community agrees that Rogue Core is far more difficult than the original game, and so you have to be careful who you pick.
Here’s my list of best classes for 2-player co-op:
|
Rank |
Icon |
Class |
Why |
|
1 |
|
Guardian |
Guardian is a tank that can restore armor to anyone in the area and has a nice AoE ability |
|
2 |
|
Slicer |
Has better mobility and a shield from ranged attacks |
|
3 |
|
Spotter |
Crit Dart for dealing with bigger enemies faster |
|
4 |
|
Falconer |
Remove revive is OP, but Thunder Rod is “meh” with only 2 players in a squad |
|
5 |
|
Retcon |
Very risky in 2-player squads, but the Contingency Plan is still good. |
This is just my opinion on the best classes for 2-player squads; you don’t have to agree with them. Based on my experience in the game, if I’m playing with a friend, we go with the following classes:
- Guardian + Falconer
- Slicer + Guardian
- Slicer + Spotter
- Falconer + Retcon
And I’m listing these in order of how easy it is to play, so I’d say that a Guardian and Falconer is the easiest duo to play. But, I’m not done yet!
Best Classes for Solo Play in DRG Rogue Core
If you have no friends, like me, or you don’t want to play with randoms, which can be a nightmare, you can still play the game solo. Doing it without teammates is definitely harder, but at the same time, you don’t have to argue about who picks which upgrades. This is my list of the best classes for solo players:
- Slicer - because of self-revive
- Retcon - another self-revive, “get out of jail” free card
- Guardian - a tank, which makes him a safe choice
- Spotter - for extra ammo, but not much else
- Falconer - because you have to deploy the Remote Drone Revive preemptively
Basically, all 5 classes are okay for solo play; it’s just some are a little better. Yes, Falconer has a self-revive as well, which should put him up top, but the fact that you have to anticipate things like that and place the drone beforehand makes it harder. It's easy to forget to do it when you’re swarmed with enemies.
Best Class For Beginners in Rogue Core
Now then, if you’re new to roguelite (or -like) games, you might find yourself overwhelmed with everything the game will throw at you. Yes, the classes themselves might not be particularly complex by themselves, but once you go on a run, you’ll find yourself constantly making decisions on the fly. And when there are four of you, it might get even more confusing, because amidst all this chaos, you also have to consider what others are doing and what upgrades everybody wants when it's time for the Negotiations. More on that in my beginner’s guide.
So, here’s my ranking of the best classes for new players in DRG Rogue Core:
- Guardian - easy to play - has rockets and a shield that will help everyone survive
- Falconer - stay away from the action and be useful to the team through the Remove Revive
- Spotter - another class for being really valuable without dealing tons of damage if you don’t know how to
- Slicer - if you have natural movement instincts and love risky gameplay
- Retcon - has a mechanic that would be difficult to execute for newer players
I can sense a question flying in the air - why is being a sniping rat and staying away from action as a Falconer a good choice for a beginner? Hear me out - in Rogue Core, you get swarmed really quickly, and it can be hard to play well when you’re constantly taking damage. At least when you’re playing as Falconer, you’re giving yourself some distance (whenever it's possible under the ground) so you can see what's going on and help your team whenever needed. That’s my thought process on this. Now, let me just go ahead and quickly break down each class and what they can do.
