How Our Hero Rankings Work

With only 8 heroes available at the game’s launch in early access, we dug deeper into what makes them special to make sure we nail the Fellowship hero rankings. As always, in this section, we explain how we approached ranking characters into different tiers by providing you a list of criteria we used to evaluate them and explaining what each tier actually means. So, tiers aren’t just “from best to worst”. Each tier represents specific characteristics within the game’s meta.

• S-Tier: The Meta-Definers

This tier is reserved for characters that have no flaws in the current patch. If you’re going for the absolute meta picks, heroes in this tier are your safest bet. They also make for the perfect option if you want to learn the game but still be useful to your team, regardless of the lack of knowledge or experience. 

• A-Tier: The Strong and Reliable

These are powerful and consistent heroes that form the backbone of any great party. They excel in their primary function and are always a safe, strong pick. They might not break the game's design like S-Tier picks, but they perform their job at a high level and are crucial for success. Many of these characters offer a great balance of power and accessibility.

• B-Tier: The Situational Specialists

These heroes are solid picks that can perform very well in the right hands or in specific situations. However, they often require more effort to achieve similar results as higher-tiered characters, or they might be outshone in general use. They can be incredibly fun and effective, but they typically have a noticeable weakness or face strong competition for their party slot.

• C-Tier: The Fun Project

Characters in this tier often have unique and enjoyable mechanics but currently struggle to compete in the meta. They might have a high skill floor for a low reward, suffer from clunky mechanics, or simply bring less overall value to a team compared to other options. Succeeding with them is absolutely possible and can be very satisfying, but it will be an uphill battle.

We’ve done our fair share of research, including looking at the Fellowship tier list on Reddit, some YouTubers, and of course, our own hands-on experience playing the game.

The Criteria Behind the Tiers

Our rankings of the Fellowship best heroes are not based on a simple "feel" or first impressions. Each hero is put through a rigorous evaluation based on the following core criteria, specific to Fellowship's 4-player dungeon combat: BLOG20

1. Primary Role Performance: This is the foundation. How well does the character perform their main job?
   Tanks are judged on their consistency in holding threat, their damage mitigation tools, and overall survivability.
   DPS are measured by their damage output, including both sustained damage and burst potential, and their ability to reliably apply that damage.
   Healers are evaluated on their healing throughput, mana efficiency, and their ability to handle both sustained party damage and emergency "spike" damage situations.
2. Hybrid Utility & Damage Contribution: In Fellowship, excelling in your role isn't always enough. We place a high value on a character's ability to contribute outside their primary function. A Tank that deals significant damage (like Meiko) or a Healer that provides meaningful offensive support (like Sylvie with her pets) is often ranked higher because they increase the entire team's efficiency and speed in clearing content.
3. Skill Floor vs. Skill Ceiling (Ease of Use vs. Mastery Potential): Don’t we all love to use the phrase “easy to pick up, but difficult to master?” We apply that to the games or characters that we really like. So, let us explain what it means in Fellowship.
   
   1. Skill Floor: How quickly can a new player be effective? Heroes with a low skill floor are great for beginners.
   2. Skill Ceiling: What is the hero's maximum potential when played perfectly? A high skill ceiling is rewarded in our tiers, as this list aims to guide players toward long-term mastery and high-level play.
4. Scalability & Late-Game Viability: How does the character perform in the most challenging end-game content? Some heroes might feel strong while leveling, but fail to scale well with gear and against tougher bosses. We prioritize heroes that remain—or become—top contenders in the late game.
5. Team Synergy & Versatility: How well does the hero fit into different team compositions? Are their abilities uniquely valuable in a variety of situations, or do they require very specific setups to shine? A versatile hero that performs well with most team comps will often be ranked more highly than a "selfish" pick.

By balancing these five criteria, we arrive at a placement that reflects a hero's overall power, value, and learning curve within the current state of Fellowship.

Fellowship Heroes Tier List

Even though the game follows the classic dungeon roles structure of Tank, Healer and DPS, each character within the role is still pretty unique in how they go about fulfilling their role. Here’s our full Fellowship tier list for all characters:

As you can see, S-Tier has the most heroes, which means if you combine S and A tiers, more than half of the characters are at a great place balance-wise. Now, it’s time to explain our top tips.

Best DPS in Fellowship

Mara is the clear queen and the Fellowship best DPS. Her kit revolves around managing Energy and combo points to unleash devastating finishers. Backstab and Skittering Blades build combo points, while Widow’s Bite generates them without consuming Energy, creating a smooth rotation that balances resource use. Her three spenders—Queen’s Fang, Arachnid Assault, and Hemorrhaging Strike—let you adapt to every situation: high burst for bosses, sustained bleed uptime for attrition fights, and AoE swarms for trash packs. With good crit and timing, she maintains almost constant uptime on her finishers, pulling ahead of every other DPS in both consistency and scaling.

Mara rewards deliberate play and target focus. She’s the perfect pick for players who want a mechanically demanding hero that pays off with unmatched boss damage and flashy burst windows.

Best Tank in Fellowship

Meiko is the Fellowship best tank thanks to her intricate combo system and flexible defense rotation. She can weave six unique finishers from her three openers—Spirit Palm, Wind Kick, and Earth Fist—giving her a deep toolkit that covers mitigation, AoE control, and mobility. Her Stone Shield is the centerpiece, granting enormous armor and 50% damage soak while doubling as an AoE damage source. By chaining pink-line defensive combos with blue-line AoE rotations, Meiko keeps her buffs active indefinitely while dishing out damage rivaling lower-tier DPS.

This blend of survivability, crowd control, and consistent output makes Meiko not just the sturdiest tank, but also one of the most self-sufficient heroes in the game. She defines the meta for high-league clears and rewards mastery more than any other frontline pick.

Best Healer in Fellowship

Sylvie redefines the healer role by linking her damage output directly to healing efficiency, which consequently makes her the Fellowship best healer. Each Nettlebolt cast restores mana and reduces Life Petal’s cooldown, while Prickly Vines and Life Petal together spawn mushrooms that explode for burst AoE when commanded. Her Blue Butterfly buff amplifies all heals on the chosen ally, usually the tank, and Restore Life adds heavy single-target recovery. Because her kit relies on proactive HoTs and damage uptime, she’s constantly contributing to both survival and clear speed.

In coordinated parties, Sylvie is borderline unstoppable—her sustained throughput, infinite mana loop, and real DPS contribution make her the strongest healer by far and one of the best heroes overall in Fellowship.

Other Fellowship Heroes Explained

Having all Fellowship heroes ranked, we can’t leave out the rest of the roster without giving them their spotlight. So, here we go.

Helena – The Defensive Classic (A-Tier)

Helena, the Warmaster, could be the Fellowship strongest hero who plays the traditional shield-and-bash archetype with modern flow. Her blue Toughness bar defines her durability—keep it high using Shields Up and Shield Slam to minimize incoming damage. Every attack feeds cooldown reductions that let her loop defense and offense in rhythm. She’s intuitive, forgiving, and dependable, though she lacks Meiko’s high ceiling.

Helena’s strength lies in consistency. She’s the tank you can trust when your group is still learning fights, providing predictable mitigation and crowd control that make dungeon runs smooth.

Ardeos – The Pyromancer (A-Tier)

Ardeos is your classic ranged DPS mage, and that’s reason enough to be among the Fellowship meta heroes. on managing Cinders and turning them into Burning Embers. He spreads multiple fire DoTs—Engulfing Flames, Searing Blaze, and Fireball—and then detonates them for massive burst. Properly layering burns before snapping them with Detonate results in huge AoE spikes. His kit rewards timing and positioning but stays fluid thanks to blink mobility and ranged interrupts.

Ardeos offers the best AoE pressure among ranged heroes and remains strong in long fights with adds. He’s flashy, fast, and fun to optimize.

Rime – The Frostcaster (B-Tier)

Rime’s Anima-and-Winter-Orb system makes her simple yet effective. She channels Freezing Torrent and casts Cold Snap to generate orbs, then spends them on Glacial Blast for big single-target hits or Ice Comet for AoE. Frost Ward provides a personal shield, giving her surprising survivability for a DPS.

Rime’s biggest advantage is reliability—her rotation is clean, safe, and beginner-friendly. She’s a great first pick for learning ranged combat, though her ceiling is lower than Ardeos or Mara in top-end play.

Vigour – The Rune Priest (C-Tier)

Vigour’s healing depends entirely on his rune engine. Dawn Flare and Radiant Blast build Radiant Runes, which he spends on Rune of Renewal and Luminous Barrier to sustain allies. The system feels smooth in stationary fights where he can dps freely, but collapses when he’s forced to heal nonstop. Without rune uptime, his mana drains fast and his throughput nosedives. BLOG20

He’s viable in slower or coordinated groups that give him space to attack between heals, but unreliable in chaotic content, which keeps him in C-Tier.

Tarique – The Missing Piece (C-Tier)

Tariq is the latest addition to the roster. He is a melee-DPS character with somewhat unbalanced toolkit that prioritizes burst damage over any other damage types.

Conclusion

If you love doing co-op activities at extreme difficulty like Mythic dungeons, Fellowship has all the chances to scratch that particular itch, minus the boring grind. There’s still a lot of progression to go through, but the game lets you dive right into the main activity without spending hundreds of hours developing your character. And that is what’s important.
