D2 Pantheon 2.0 Argos Strategy

Argos, Planetary Core is a boss encounter from the Eater of Worlds raid lair. It’s an interesting fight, but it's not incredibly difficult. There are moments when a bad run can be saved from a wipe if the team pulls it together and does the right thing. Here’s how the fight goes.
Argos is protected by a gigantic barrier in the middle of the arena. There are 3 areas around the barrier, each of which has platforms. Your job is to collect cranium orbs, bring them to the platforms, and charge them with an element - Arc, Solar, or Void. Each time, only one side of the boss’ barrier is active, and it will have floating orbs flying around telling you which combination of craniums you need. Players pick up the right craniums, shoot the orbs, bring down the barrier, and deal damage to the boss. Basically, that’s all there’s to it. Now, the details.
Charging Craniums
Split the team into 3 groups of 2 players, one for each platform. One player guards the platform, and the other brings the Vex craniums. There’ll be 6 spawning during this phase. As the cranium charges, which takes a while, you will be attacked by adds constantly. Also, you don’t have to wait until the its fully charged. Let the runner player constantly bring the cranium to the platform so there’s less downtime between charges. Just keep charging one after another, nonstop, regardless of when the cranium is actually used. Because you may need to have 2 of the same type.
Destroying the Barrier
Argos hides behind this giant prismatic barrier in the middle. One side of that barrier will have 3 orbs or mines (whatever you want to call them) floating around. Have 3 players equip the matching craniums, and what you’ll do is shoot out the beams from them to destroy those orbs. You’re going to want to destroy all 3 at the same time, because doing so gives you a boss damage bonus. Just use a simple countdown to sync it.
DPS Phase

Once the shield is down, it's time to deal damage to the boss, but it won’t just stand there and take it. Argos will throw these sorts of nets (I guess it's called a detainment prism) that grab players, take them away from the main platform, and eventually kill them with Force Cage within 10 seconds of being ensnared. Those need to be avoided.
Another thing it will throw at you is the Harpies, aka the Supplicant missiles. These are homing missiles that you can shoot down before they reach you and deal damage. Do make sure to get them, because if you get hit by a stack of them, it's game over for everyone! Again, just like in the case with the Calus fight, which you can check out in my guide here, use ARC weapons with AoE damage like Thunderlord or Riskrunner to deal with this kind of threat.
When the damage phase ends, Argos reengages the barrier, but if you have enough craniums cooked up, you can disable the shield right after it's back and continue to deal damage. This is completely optional, but the infographic for this guide lists the combinations of Vex Craniums needed to activate both damage phases back to back.
If you’re not planning to do the DPS phase back to back, you can use the spare 3 craniums to deal massive damage to the boss. Just pick them up and shoot the boss with it.
Gravity Smasher Bomb Wipe Mechanic
Regardless of your actions, at some point, the barrier will disappear completely, and Argos will start charging a bomb that will wipe you out guaranteed. This will be accompanied by a callout that reads: “Void energy rips the air”. The charging lasts 30 seconds, followed by a blast that kills everyone.
To deal with it, you will need to destroy six weak points that light up in three pairs on Argos’ body:
- Head
- Middle arms
- Back
Each cycle, one full pair activates. Split 3-and-3, and each team destroys them on their side. This will allow you to deal a little bit of damage to the boss and get back to collecting and charging Cranium. Use the platforms around Argos during this stage to reach those weak points.
