WoW Housing Neighborhoods Guide

What is a neighborhood? Let us explain everything in detail in this WoW housing neighborhoods guide. Neighborhoods are zones limited to 55 plots. They can be public, guild-only, or private. Neighborhoods let you buy a plot of land and develop your house on it. If you later change your mind about the plot, you can freely move to another unoccupied space. You can even move between the neighborhoods if needed. Your house will be transferred without any changes, and there are no additional costs. There are two neighborhood areas available: Founder’s Point and Razorwind Shores. Each area is divided into six biomes, each with unique visuals. Each biome has multiple plots. Log in, and you will receive a quest called “A House For You”, which is essentially a tutorial. You will need to go to your capital city’s portal room and find a portal to the neighborhood there. At this point in the quest, you’ll be asked what neighborhood you want to settle in. Check the information on how to join a neighborhood in World of Warcraft:

  • Public Neighborhood: If you aren’t a part of any guild or aren’t invited to the private neighborhoods, you can select a public neighborhood from the list. There, you can pick a plot and buy it for 1000 gold.
  • Guild Neighborhood:  If you are a member of the guild, you will automatically be connected to a guild neighborhood.
  • Charter Neighborhood: A private neighborhood you can only be invited to. You can use the housing dashboard and check if you were invited. There are some significant differences between private and public communities. We will cover them later.

Don’t think that choosing a neighborhood locks you out from the other. You can freely visit your friend’s neighborhood or even decline a guild neighborhood and join the public one. If all else fails, you can create your own Wisteria Lane by speaking to the vendor. Let’s cover how you can do that. If you don’t like any of the neighborhoods available, or if the best plots are all occupied, you can create your own. Talk to the steward found around the neighborhood and choose “I’m interested in creating a neighborhood” or something along those lines. You’ll be provided with several options:

  • Charter Neighborhood: To make a private neighborhood, you’ll need to buy a charter from the steward. It’s a petition that 10 players must sign so that the game allows you to have a private community.
  • Guild Neighborhood: If you have your own guild, you can create a guild neighborhood. This option is only available if you are the head of the guild. Your guild should have a minimum of 10 active members.

After you choose the neighborhood type you want to create, you need to name it. One important thing: guild neighborhoods are still limited to 55 plots. If your guild is bigger than that, the game will create additional neighborhoods automatically. If a player is no longer part of the guild, they’ll be removed from the neighborhood as well. Public vs Private Neighborhoods in WoW

If you want a more casual residency experience, we recommend joining a public neighborhood. Public neighborhoods are run by the game. All things that the private neighborhoods must manage themselves are performed automatically in a public neighborhood. On the contrary, if you create a private neighborhood, you’ll control most aspects of the community’s life yourself. Private neighborhoods are well-suited for people who want a whole neighborhood just for their friend group. Let’s further break down public vs private neighborhoods in WoW:

  • Public Neighborhood: This kind of neighborhood is automatically made by the game. It gives the neighborhood its name. It also controls various aspects of it, such as organizing community events and running Endeavors. Any player can join them and buy a house.
  • Private Neighborhood: A gated community run by a group of people. A private neighborhood is either a guild or a charter community. Only invited people can buy a house there. You also have a minimal number of people required to create a private neighborhood. You name the community yourself. Renaming it costs 10000 gold, so choose wisely. The guild communities are automatically named after them.

The most important aspect is that the players themselves decide which Endeavors to select and run. 
If you want to create a tribe-like community, the private neighborhood is your best choice. Turn it into a managed democracy or create an Xal’Atath fan club. World of Warcraft Neighborhood Activities

Neighborhoods aren’t as deep as cities or towns in the open world. They do not offer typical services, such as auctions or class trainers. Instead, they have various mini activities to spend time with your friends. Each neighborhood has a central town area, where most of these activities occur. Check out the list of World of Warcraft’s neighborhood activities:

  • Social Gatherings: Each neighborhood has its own areas for social interaction. The Alliance neighborhood has a pub, and the Horde one has hot springs.
  • House Exploration: You can scratch your Animal Crossing itch by inviting your neighbors over. Maybe in the future, the developers will add a house rating system.
  • Treasure Hunts: These mini quests will allow you to gain a new decor element daily. You get a short riddle; completing it awards you a decorative piece. They are limited to one a day and one per character. Talk to the architect to get them started.
  • Endeavors: Once they are released, they will be a primary neighborhood activity. Endeavors are month-long events centered on a specific theme. You’ll have tasks to work on as a whole community. Finishing them awards you with neighborhood Favor, or, in other words, Renown and coupons. The Favor upgrades the neighborhood level, and coupons can be traded in at vendors for new decor.   • Trade with Vendors: In exchange for coins, you can get new housing decor from them.

So far, these are all the known and upcoming activities in WoW’s player housing circa 11.2.7 patch. We can only guess if the developers will add more activities as the expansion progresses. There are many events that the game community has already proposed, so let’s hope the devs will listen.
