Battlefield 2042 Weapons Tier List Explained
There are a lot of outdated best lists of guns to use in BF2042 out there. All of them follow their own criteria, which often come from the author’s personal opinion. In this section, we’ll explain how we approach rating each weapon in the game, and each tier in our list means. So, let’s start with just that:
- S-Tier: The S-Tier weapons are the BF2042 meta weapons. These guns are the go-to choice for players, whether they're storming buildings or engaging in long-range combat. While they might be somewhat overused, but their consistent performance makes them essential picks. Players often find top-notch loadouts and setups for these weapons on platforms like YouTube, further solidifying their status as the best of the best.
- A-Tier: Weapons in the A-Tier category are highly recommended picks, just falling short of the absolute top-tier status. These guns are widely used and respected among the player base, offering versatile performance and multiple customization options. They’re also the most commonly used weapons in the game.
- B-Tier: B-Tier weapons offer a solid gameplay experience, although they don't quite reach the heights of the top-tier options. These guns are reliable and enjoyable to use but may lack the edge needed for objective-focused gameplay. They’re picked by more casual gamers who don’t really care about raw performance stats.
- C-Tier: C-Tier weapons represent a noticeable drop in performance and versatility compared to higher-tier options. While they're not entirely ineffective, they may receive criticism from teammates due to their inconsistent performance and limited usefulness. To put it simply, these are one-dimensional weapons that are totally not jacks of all trades.
- D-Tier: Weapons in the D-Tier represent a significant drop in performance and effectiveness compared to higher-tier options. These are super niche guns that are more usually used for making content videos about the game. Basically, nobody uses them to win games.
Let’s point out something obviously important here. For this BF2042 gun tier list, we’re not going to divide weapons into categories. As you may know, there are different classes or roles in the game and different types of weapons like Shotguns, Sniper Rifles, ARs, etc. We’re not dividing them like that. Instead, we’re listing all weapons based on their performance. Therefore, in tier S, you will find the best of the best guns to use in BF2042 in their respective class.
We’re also not going to be listing any gadgets that can be used to kill enemy players directly or by doing some sneaky fuckery. Here, we’re only listing guns that shoot bullets in one way or another. With that being said, let’s get on to the actual tier list.
Best Battlefield 2042 Weapons Tier List
Now that we’ve established the meanings of our tiers let’s actually show you the Battlefield 2042 weapon tier list itself.
Tier | Weapons |
S Tier | K30, G428, L9CZ, PP-29, AK-24 |
A Tier | AM40, SWS-10, MP9, MCS-880, SVK, AC-42 |
B Tier | M5A3, PBX-45, AC9, G57, DM7, RPT-31, SCZ-3, AK 5C |
C Tier | LCMG, DXR-1, NTW-50, XCE BAR, VCAR, BSV-M, SFAR-MGC, DFR Strife |
D Tier | AVA NCYS, PKP-BP, NVK-P125, SUPER 500, PF51, BFP.50, MP28, M44, Ghostmaker R10, NVK-S22, 12M Auto, GVT 45-70, RORSCH MK-4 |
As you can see, there are quite a few weapons, including those that have been added from previous Battlefield installments. But, we’re not just going to call it a day and leave you wondering why we’ve chosen to put these weapons into these tiers. Next, we’re going to answer the question what guns are good in BF2042 by listing and explaining each one of them. BLOG20
S-Tier
K30
You might be surprised why K30 made it into the S-tier being the little SMG that it is, but dudes, its the fastest firing weapon in the whole game, and you really need it for the TTK! Use the high-power ammo to shred your enemies up to 40 meters away!
G428
The G428 earns its place in the S-Tier thanks to it being the absolute classic for the series. Previously known as the M417, this is the battle rifle with the best recoil/damage combo you can have on the strongest gun in BF2042. It has low recoil by default, without mods, and an option for full-auto mode. But true pros only use it in single-fire mode.
L9CZ
What the hell is a pistol doing in S-tier, we hear you ask? Do you have any idea how many times this little dude saved players when there was no time to reload? It’s got the semi-auto fire mode and a bunch of mods that make this sidearm the best secondary weapon in the whole game.
PP-29
You might already start seeing the trend of having the guns with the highest RPM be part of the current BF2042 meta weapons. Well, this is true for the mini-lmg, as you may call it. It’s got a huge 53-round mag and a non-existing recoil, and it’s the s-tier weapon.
AK-24
Why wouldn’t an AK gun be in any S-Tier of any tier list? This gun is easy to handle, it packs a punch, and all of it makes the AK-24 a breeze to use to frag enemies.
A-Tier
AM40
This weapon can be categoried as - versatile, consistent and high-octane. The only thing that keeps it away from a tier higher is the need to install some crazy mods to see its full potential.
SWS-10
The SWS-10 is the best sniper in BF2042. It’s a bolt-action, so you know it has crazy damage and one-shot potential, but it’s a sniper rifle and not everyone can use them. Still, if you’re looking for the best SR, this is the one.
MP9
The MP9 is another top-tier SMG. It might have pretty low damage, but its fire rate is second to best, its top-notch handling, and the mods that can turn this thing into a killing machine. Our advice is to learn to play with SMGs; you won’t regret it.
MCS-880
The MCS-880 is the best shotgun in the game. Battlefield 2042 shotguns, much like sniper rifles, are pretty difficult to use effectively, but if you’re good at flanking, there’s no better weapon because it can obliterate enemy players in close quarters.
SVK
The SVK is the alternative to SWS-10 if bolt-action sniper rifles are not your thing, or maybe you can aim for shit. Either way, the semi-auto fire mode will let you stay on target and land your shots with more precision.
AC-42
The AC-42 is a bull-pup assault rifle that can give AK a run for its money. It’s a decent alternative and it has a different set of attachments, so it’s really up to you whichever you want to commit to.

B-Tier
M5A3
Also known as the MCX Spear, this battle rifle is the author's favorite weapon in the game. But why is it in the B tier? Well, this weapon is the jack of all trades but master of none, and it's not really a description fit for BF2042 meta guns, is it? If you like playing a semi assault-sniper, or in other words, a marksman role, then use it. Otherwise, there are better alternatives.
PBX-45
The PBX-45 is the modern world’s UMP alternative. If you’re unfamiliar, this is the SMG with a bigger bullet caliber, which, subsequently, makes it dish out more damage. But why have a semblance of AR when you have so many ARs to choose from?
AC9
The AC9 is a tiny SMG that looks ridiculous. However, it is an absolute laser gun with no recoil and outstanding damage values. The only thing that really sets it back is limited magazine capacity, which makes it difficult to level up.
G57
The G57 is the starting pistol that got more nerfs than any other gun in the game. It has insane potential of being the best sidearm in the game and its available from level 1, but after so many nerfs, it’s lost its edge.
DM7
The DM7 is the default marksman rifle, which is the weapon for you if you like this kind of playstyle. After a while, you’ll switch to something else. However, this is still a very solid choice, especially for new players.
RPT-31
It’s about time we named the first LMG in our tier list. So, why RPT-31? It’s got the power to wipe out squads of enemies and what feels like an endless magazine of bullets. But it’s rather difficult to control, and the more you hold down the fire button, the crazier it gets.
SCZ-3
The SCZ-3 is the new weapon in Season 7. It’s an SMG, so we predict it will be rather useful, considering how many SMGs are the meta. It will all depend on whether or not the community will find awesome builds for it, but we reckon it will be one of the good guns in BF2042 as it is early on.
AK 5C
So, the reason the new AK 5C is in B tier is because we already have the top-tier AK and we doubt the new guy on the block will switch places with it. It’s an AK and an assault rifle, so you know that with time, this boy can take his place in the S tier.
C-Tier
LCMG
The LCMG is in C, because it is a mediocre pistol no matter how you look at it. The glock has its utility and the L9CZ has everything else, so you don’t really need to bother yourself with this one.
DXR-1
The DXR-1 might be appealing to you after you’ve bored yourself to death with the starter bolt-action SR. But it can’t offer anything of substance in terms of its characteristics that would make it better than its competitor.
NTW-50
The NTW-50 looks a lot like the SRS99-AM from Halo, and by the looks of it, you can tell this baby packs a punch. But it's so far up in the progression that by the time you unlock it, you might not even notice it. Besides, it's primarily made to destroy vehicles, which is not very effective.
XCE BAR
The XCE BAR has a very substantial damage drop-off at long range, which is not something you want in a sniper rifle. But it has fast handling and fast ADS time, so it’s kinda okay.
VCAR
The VCAR is a quirky primary weapon that clearly has a pistol or some other kind of sidearm root. Do you really want to have that as your primary?
BSV-M
The BSV-M is a very cool weapon with the pre-installed silencer. But its limited magazine doesn’t make it very reliable in all combat scenarios. Want to know what is the best gun in Battlefield 2042? It’s not this one!
SFAR-MGC
The SFAR-MGC looks pretty cool, but it's actually not. It’s one of the first ARs that you unlock when leveling up. It's more of a stepping stone on the road to better ARs.
DFR Strife
The DFR Strife is the Season 7 LMG, which can be good, but seeing how unpopular LMGs are in the current meta, we wouldn’t keep our hopes up for this one.
D-Tier
AVA NCYS
The AVA NCYS is a garbage LMG that has no place in the current meta. Literally, every other LMG league is better than this.
PKP-BP
The PKP-BP looks chunky, but looks are the only thing it's got going for it. The main downside of this weapon is the lack of attachments that you can put on it. There are some, but they’re not letting you customize the gun as
NVK-P125
The NVK-P125 is a weird sidearm that has a very uncomfortable two-shorts burst fire mode. It’s just too weird to use, so its nowhere near the BF2042 weapons meta.
SUPER 500
The SUPER 500 is a sidearm shotgun, which is a weird choice because you don’t really get that many reasons to use a shotgun as your second weapon. It’s not very useful, so it’s garbage, that’s the reality.
PF51
The PF51 has the lowest damage value of all sidearms, and the fast fire rate doesn’t save it from being bad. If you want to artificially increase the TTK, go for it. Otherwise, stay away.
BFP.50
The BFP.50 is the Deagle sidearm, which, much like a revolver, doesn’t leave any room for mistake. It’s a sidearm purely for finishing off enemies who are low on health, but switching to the sidearm just to kill an enemy is just an extra step you don’t want to take. Just use your primary weapon, dude!
MP28
The MP28 is another weird conversion where you got two mags on the gun for the first fast reload. This gimmick doesn’t make this gun any better than other sidearms, so why even bother?
M44
The M44 has the same deal as the BFP 50. Its only use is to finish off a camper with style if you managed to sneak behind them close enough. This gun has no other uses, at all.
Ghostmaker R10
The Ghostmaker R10 is a crossbow. It’s a weapon for trolling other players. It's got nothing going for it except being the highlight of some epic compilation videos.
NVK-S22
This is a double-barrel, pump-action shotgun and like any other gimmicky weapon its place is in the D tier.
12M Auto
The 12M Auto is an automatic shotgun, which makes it sound cool, but in reality, it doesn’t do enough damage, even up close, to be a reliable choice.
GVT 45-70
The GVT 45-70 is a lever-action marksman rifle, which is a couple of ages late for the party. Its level-action design is a serious downside of this weapon because it doesn’t have the damage of a bolt-action sniper rifle to make up for it.
RORSCH MK-4
The RORSCH MK-4 is a unique weapon that shoots bolts of lighting. The biggest downside is the delay between pulling the trigger and firing. This makes it a poor choice for close-quarters combat, where enemies can react quickly. Because of the charge time, the weapon rewards planning and good timing. It takes practice to get used to when to fire for maximum effectiveness.
Conclusion
With so many weapons in Battlefield 2042, it’s really hard to actually find really good weapons. Everybody in the game is already using what they like, and it's not always meta. New players are guaranteed to be lost when they open the game’s arsenal. Of course, a lot depends on your playstyle. You could already cut down the list of potential weapons for you based on what role you want to play, etc.
This tier list is aimed to provide a general list of all BF2042 weapons ranked. It’s all based on the perception of guns in the game by its community. We weren’t listing our own top choices. We were listing weapons based on their actual characteristics in the game. So, hopefully, you will have an easier time finding the best gun for you now.
