How Our Wuthering Waves Tier List Works

As of the moment of writing this, there are sixteen Resonators available in the game, each possessing their own fighting style and abilities, however, some of the Resonators are objectively better than others. And even though the game is relatively new, there’s already a Wuthering Waves meta formed. That being said, allow us to explain what each tier means:

  • S-Tier – Resonators that fit into any team, literally. You must get them into your roster and level them up ASAP!
  • A-Tier – Really powerful Resonators with game-changing abilities. They’re absolutely meta, especially if you add good Echoes and upgrade their weapons.
  • B-Tier – These Resonators are kind of okay, but they’re nothing more than a stepping stone on your way to get the characters from higher tiers.
  • C-Tier – Resonators that sadly have no place in the current meta. There’s a chance that in future updates, they’ll become more effective and deserving of a higher tier.

Usually, we also include the D-tier for absolutely useless characters, but since the game is new, it doesn’t have that many characters to find someone D-tier worthy. Remember, your first instinct should be to go with whatever Resonators you personally like. The current Wuthering Waves meta will not stay current for too long anyway, and chasing it doesn’t make much sense anyway unless you’re doing some endgame content or min/maxing.

Wuthering Waves Resonators Tier List

Before we share our Wuthering Waves tier list 2024, it’s important to note that tier lists are mostly subjective. Gacha games make it extremely difficult to earn character, and finding out that your first unlocked character after so many rolls is C-tier is beyond disappointing. So, just don’t treat this or any other tier list super seriously, and as we always say – pick your characters based on feeling, not data. That way, you’ll have a much better time playing the game. Now, with all of that out of the way, let’s see the list of the best Wuthering Waves Resonators in the game:

Tier  Resonators

You might have noticed that Rover is also listed here. Usually, it is a bespoke rule of tier lists in gacha games to rate only characters that aren’t main characters. However, since they’re so strong, we decided to include them!

In the next section, we’re going to explore all Wuthering Waves Resonators ranked and explain why they’re residing in these tiers.

S-Tier

As mentioned before, S-tier is reserved for Wuthering Waves meta Resonators, and so far, there aren’t actually that many of them who fit the criteria.

Verina

Verina is a 5-star Support Resonator and the best one at that. You can see her being in S-tiers of many tier lists, whether they’re role-based or general tier lists. Her main strength is her Resonance Liberation, which heals the team and applies a mark to enemies. When teammates attack marked enemies, Verina deals additional damage and heals the team again. So, if you’re looking for the best Resonator in Wuthering Waves who is also a support, Verina is your girl!

Jiyan

Currently the star of the game with his own event banner, Jiyan is a 5-Star Aero Damage Dealer with insane ultimate ability. Jiyan focuses on building stacks through his attacks and skills to unleash his ultimate, Resonance Liberation: Emerald Storm. This ability deals with massive Aero DMG and makes him a dominant force on the battlefield. If you must ask who is the best Resonator in Wuthering Waves, it may very well be Jiyan. BLOG20

Calcharo

Calcharo is an edgy-looking guy with a katana. Can he be the answer to what is the best Resonator in Wuthering Waves? More importantly he is a super powerful Electro Resonator who thrives on dealing high damage through his Resonance Liberation, changing his standard attacks to upgraded ones that deal Electro damage. An advanced technique involves swapping out Calcharo during his long slam animation to maximize DPS.

A-Tier

If you get these Resonators, consider yourself lucky, as any one of them are top Wuthering Waves Resonators worthy to not only collect dust in your collection but also be part of your teams.

Rover

Rover is a main character in the story, depending on which gender you chose, Rover will be have either Spectro or Havoc attribute. No matter which choice you make, Rover is true A-tier as Main or Sub-DPS.

Encore

Encore is one of the strongest DPS Resonators available today, who specializes in dealing the most amount of damage during her ultimate window. Sometimes, she’s perceived as difficult to play, but that’s not entirely true. However, it is recommended to switch out to a different character to parry, while generating enough energy to get back into her ultimate as soon as possible.

Mortefi

Mortefi is a supporting character in the game, strong in bolstering team synergy and DPS. Mortefi gains points after basic attacks and upon casting intro skills, accumulating up to 60 points. An additional 40 points are gained after using a skill, with a 5-second window for extra points with basic attacks. Thanks to Liberation, Mortefi can deal off-field damage for 10 seconds, extended to 17 seconds with Sequence 4. This synergy is potent when combined with Ultra skill buffs, enhancing heavy attacks for the team's main DPS. Key stats include energy regeneration and resonance energy for activating buffs and quick switching.

Baizhi

Baizhi's kit revolves around healing, damage, and buffs, making her a versatile addition to any team. Baizhi's Resonance skill deals damage and heals the entire team while also providing an attack buff via her passive. Her burst summons a pet that heals and deals damage, even when Baizhi is off-field. The Forte Circuit is crucial for filling her concerto energy bar, with stacks gained from basic attacks providing additional healing. Her intro skill offers more heals, while her outro skill provides continuous healing and damage buff for 30 seconds. Advancements enhance her abilities further, with bonuses to healing, damage, and resurrection. Baizhi's constellations offer upgrades to her Resonance skill and ultimate, making her a top-tier support for Glacio DPS characters like Lingyang.

Danjin

Danjin is a promising four-star character praised for her potential impact on the game's meta. Danjin's sequences, or constellations, provide incremental damage bonuses and buffs, enhancing her viability and effectiveness in combat. Despite not requiring high constellations to excel, Danjin is anticipated to be a formidable DPS character in the meta, especially for early-game players. Her kit's flexibility allows her to synergize well with various team compositions, making her a valuable addition to any roster. BLOG20

B-Tier

This tier consists of the most Resonators in the game. They’re kind of average, but if that makes them think of it this way – they’re the best choice for F2P who either prefer not to spend money on gacha or are still on the fence about it.

Jianxin

Jianxin is a perfect example of that. She’s a highly versatile and effective character, contrary to popular belief. Jianxin's multi-faceted skillset, including healing, shielding, and damage-dealing abilities. Her survivability and utility, such as her counterattack and Jiangli Shield, are underscored as valuable assets. Jianxin's potential to serve as a one-man wrecking crew, capable of soloing bosses and contributing to various team compositions, makes her probably one of the best characters for F2P players.

Sanhua

Sanhua is a versatile Glacio sword-wielding character in the game, excelling as a hybrid DPS with multiple rotations. Her forte lies in quick-swapping teams or as a hyper carry. With abilities like resonance skill and forte circuit, she deals moderate to heavy damage, especially when detonating summons. Equipped with sets like Freezing or Moonlet Clouds, she maximizes her damage output, while weapons like Emerald of Genesis or Commando of Conviction enhance her performance. With sequence notes providing significant damage boosts, Sanhua proves to be a formidable force in any team composition.

Yangyang

Yangyang is one of the very first Resonators you get in the game for free, which is why she has this stigma of being pretty bad. Despite being a free addition to your roster, she is a versatile sword-wielding resonator who excels in providing support and utility to her team. Her forte includes various skills such as Basic Attack, Feather as Blade, Zephyr Domain, Wind Spirals, and Echoing Feathers. These skills offer a combination of damage-dealing capabilities and utility effects.

In addition to her forte skills, Yangyang possesses inherent abilities like Compassion, which grants her a damage boost, and Lazuline Mercy, providing stamina recovery. Her Intro Skill, Cerulean Song, deals damage and generates concerto energy, while her Outro Skill, Whispering Breeze, offers energy regeneration for the next resonator.

Overall, Yangyang's kit allows her to function effectively as both a supportive utility DPS and a secondary DPS option, making her a valuable addition to any team composition.

Aalto

Alto offers high mobility, strong Arrow damage, and valuable utility to his team. He is a dynamic resonator with a focus on Arrow damage and utility. His intro skill, "Faint Shot," unleashes rapid arrow shots, while his forte circuit, "Misty Cover," enhances his mobility and missile generation. "Shift Trick" summons avatars to taunt enemies, bolstered by Mist drops. His resonance Liberation, "Flower in the Mist," boosts attack power and lasts 10 seconds. His outro skill, "Dissolving Mist," grants nearby allies an Arrow damage boost. Alto pairs well with characters like Yangyang, benefiting from her AOE skills, and his kit synergizes with weapons like "Undying Flame," enhancing his burst damage.

Lingyang

Lingyang, often underestimated by many, offers unique gameplay mechanics and strategic value. His resonance meter plays a crucial role in his kit, granting enhanced attack speed, mobility, and damage when filled. Despite initial confusion surrounding his viability, understanding his mechanics reveals his true potential. Lingyang's ultimate ability and super armor provide versatility and anti-air capabilities, ensuring consistent damage output. Additionally, his resonance skill can be activated quickly with his ultimate, doubling his enhanced state duration.

Overall, mastering Lingyang's gameplay mechanics and optimizing his build unlocks his full potential on the battlefield.

Yuanwu

Yuanwu, a formidable fighter with electrifying abilities, excels as a sub-DPS brawler specializing in countering and stunning opponents. His intro skill, "Thunder Bombardment," unleashes a powerful electro slam on enemies, while his basic attack, "Langan Chan," delivers rapid electro strikes, making him adept at countering enemy moves. Yuanwu's resonance skill, "Langwang Master," summons a thunder wedge, creating a thunder field that boosts damage output and triggers coordinated attacks from Thunder Wedge, dealing additional electro damage.

While his synergies are still developing due to the game's newness, Yuanwu shows immense potential as a versatile and powerful fighter, reminiscent of Kazuya from Tekken and Wel from HSR.

Chixia

Chixia is a dynamic character in combat, offering a unique playstyle that revolves around maximizing damage through well-timed dodges and counters. While there's no strict requirement for specific builds or Echoes, crit damage plays a significant role in amplifying her damage output.

In combat, Chixia's primary damage source stems from her dodge counters, consistently delivering substantial crit damage. While her Dhad Daka ability adds extra damage, it's the dodge counters that truly make a difference. With Hana on the team, Chixia's damage potential receives a significant boost, thanks to Hana's damage enhancement.

Experimenting with different builds and playstyles can help players uncover the most effective approach to harnessing this formidable fighter's capabilities.

C-Tier

There's only one Resonator that doesn't fit into any of the other tiers, but let that not dissuade you from trying out a C-tier character. Sooner or later, the devs are going to introduce updates that make good Resonators bad and vice versa.

Taoqi

Taoqi, currently ranked as the lowest Resonator, possesses unique support capabilities centered around defense scaling. Her kit emphasizes shielding, damage reduction, and self-healing, making her a viable solo carry or support character. However, despite her potential, she faces challenges due to her reliance on defense scaling, which may limit her effectiveness compared to other Resonators. Additionally, her role as a support character may be overshadowed by other Resonators with stronger support abilities or DPS potential. These factors contribute to her current status as the lowest-ranked Resonator.

Conclusion

Wuthering Waves is a fresh gacha game with an insanely addictive combat system where you can dodge and parry enemy attacks and use the monster’s abilities in fights. All of this means is that the meta is still forming, so a lot of these characters will swap places with one another eventually.

New Resonators have already been announced, and we will update this tier list as soon as that happens. Hopefully, now, you have some idea as to what Resonators you should pay closer attention to. Good luck, and have fun!
