What Are Elemental Rune Dungeons?
Elemental Rune Dungeons in Cataclysm Classic brings the Protocol Inferno difficulty into play. You can test your skills in 9 Heroic dungeons, which are becoming as challenging as ever. All the mobs and bosses will have increased HP and deal higher damage throughout the entire run. In return, you will get a chance to obtain rarer rewards by completing an instance.
This system is intended to level up your alts faster and serves as a catch-up mechanism. Along with that, you can run these dungeons to get gear from Phase 1 and Phase 2 of Cata Classic for your main characters.
How to Access Elemental Rune Dungeons
You have two options when it comes to accessing Elemental Rune Dungeons:
- Get into a Heroic Dungeon and activate the Mysterious Elemental Device
- Queue in the Dungeon Finder
It is important to have an item level of 346 or higher equipped before entering Protocol Inferno Dungeons. Both ways work in a straightforward manner, as you can find the Mysterious Elemental Device right after you enter an instance. To activate the brand-new difficulty level, all party members should interact with the device before proceeding further.
Protocol Inferno Difficulty Explained
Protocol Inferno difficulty has been introduced to Cataclysm Classic with the start of Phase 3. This is the first difficulty level available within the Elemental Rune Dungeons system. Compared to what we have seen in WotLK Classic, we can expect more levels to be released with future patches.
A higher level of difficulty is achieved through the Fury of the Firelord buff added for all enemies you will encounter within a run. This feature increases enemies’ and bosses’ HP by 100% and the damage they deal by 25%.
The first thing that crosses your mind is likely connected with Mythic+ dungeons in a retail version of the game. However, you will not see any other affixes apart from the buff we have just described. This is the only difficulty-increase mechanics available right now.
