Best Armor in Helldivers 2

Today we're ranking the best armor in Helldivers 2. There are lots of armor sets, all of which come with their own set of parameters and perks. We're going to be raking armor by their special passive abilities that they provide. Why? Read the guide to find out!

Hello, Helldivers! Today we’re going to be talking about your armor. We all know, that weapons are the most important argument when democracy is being discussed, but the second-most important thing is your armor. This Helldivers 2 armor tier list will teach you everything you need to know about how to pick the best armor for your deployments.

All armor pieces in the game have their characteristics:

  • Armor Rating - the main stat that represents how many hits can it take
  • Speed - provides a bonus to movement speed
  • Stamina Regen - determines how fast your stamina regenerates
  • Armor Passive - a uniqueb bonus or perk tied to the armor.

All of these stats are really important, but not as much as the Armor Passive. In fact, we would argue, that the passive bonus is far more important to you than anything else. Therefore, you should really look at what kind of bonus the armor can offer you. Besides that, all armor sets are divided into 3 categories:

  1. Light - longer sprint, faster stamina regen but less protection
  2. Medium - the jack-of-all-trades and master of none. Provides somewhat balanced solution to the protection vs. speed problem.
  3. Heavy - top-notch protection but restricted movement speed and stamina regen.

With that said, in order to find the best armor in Helldivers 2, you really gotta look into the passives first. By the way, if you want to get the best armor in the game and do so fast, you’re going to need a lot of Medals. Helldivers 2 Democratic Detonation Armor

The latest warbond update has introduced several new weapons and 3 armor sets, all of which come with the same passive perks described in this list. Here is the full list of new armor and their passives:

Armor Armor Type Passive

Tier

CE-07 Demolition Specialist Light Engineering Kit A-Tier
FS-55 Devastator Heavy Fortified A-Tier
CE-27 Ground Breaker Medium Servo-Assisted B-Tier

Unfortunately, there are no new armor passives in this update. The three armor sets reuse passives that can be found on already existing sets. They're not bad by any means, but we hope that the developers will add new passives in future updates. Stay tuned for more updates on the best armor in the game!

Helldivers 2 Armor Tier List Explained

As you already know, there are 3 types of armor, each containing 3 different stats plus a passive. So, how can we establish what armor is good in Helldivers 2? The answer is simpler than you might think. Instead of looking at every single armor in the game and comparing it to other armor, we will only look at the passive bonuses that armor provides and compare their usefulness. That’s way more important than comparing stats. With that said, here are our tiers: BLOG20

  • S-Tier - in this tier we’re going to put the most useful and effective armor passives in the game. These are going to be the passives that you’ll be using to complete Nightmare difficulty missions and build your loadouts around.
  • A-Tier - while not exactly meta, passives in this tier provide very effective bonuses, making them a solid choice for your loadout
  • B-Tier - these armor passives provide less than stellar bonuses that are still good, but just not as good or viable as passives from S and A tiers. They’re not useless, however, there are better alternatives present.
  • C-Tier - armor passives from this tier don’t really add anything of substance. These bonuses are dull and you won’t feel any difference with them equipped.

When it comes to Helldivers 2 armor, there are a lot of choices. They can be unlocked in the Aquisition Center using medals or bought in the Superstore using Supercredits. But when you boil it down, really what remains are the armor passives. That being said, your vision of the best passives might be different from ours, and that’s completely fine. If you’ve played the game long enough, you might already have your personal list of favorite armor that works for you. Tier lists do not represent universal truth, especially not when it's for a live-service game that keeps rolling out regular updates. Therefore, just keep an open mind, or if you’re a new player, this tier list will show you the best armor to use in Helldivers 2, so you don’t have to go and do your own research. If that sounds fair to you, then let’s get started.

Best Helldivers 2 Armor Tier List

Let’s get to the point and name the current Helldivers 2 meta armor by naming the best passives.

Tier Armor Passives
S-Tier Med-Kit, Democracy Protects
A-Tier Fortified, Engineering Kit
B-Tier Scout, Servo-Assisted
C-Tier Extra Padding

This is what the Helldivers 2 meta armor looks like. Anything that has the perks from the S-tier can be considered meta and is used for all types of missions on all difficulties. If you’ve found different armor sets with the same passive bonuses like, for instance, the DP-40 Hero of the Federation and DP-11 Champion of the People, then you can start comparing the armor stats on both sets and how easy it is to unlock the one or the other. By doing so, you’ll free yourself from the headache of finding good armor in Helldivers 2, so you can concentrate on other things such as picking the best weapon and stratagems for your mission. However, we’re not done yet. In our next section, we’ll explain each armor passive and name a few armors that have it. BLOG20

S-Tier

Helldivers 2 Med-Kit Armor

Let’s start the Helldivers 2 armor ranked list with a passive that increases the initial inventory and capacity of healing stims by +2. Additionally, it increases the stim effect duration by 2 seconds. It’s hard to underestimate this bonus that can literally save your life by allowing you to carry 2 more stims. What’s even better, all stims stay active for 2 seconds longer, which means they’ll restore more of your HP than regular armor without this bonus. The armor sets that have this passive:

  • CM-14 Physician
  • CM-09 Bonesnapper

Both are found in the Warbond store and bought with medals, which is nice, because you would think that the armor with the best perks would be found in the premium store.

Helldivers 2 Democracy Protects Armor

This passive gives you an 50% chance to not die when taking lethal damage. Plus, it nullifies bleeding damage if chest haemorrhages. If you wanted to know what is the best armor in Helldivers 2, this is it. It’s a no-branier why this so good - you’re literally have a chance to survive the finishing blow when you’re on your last legs. There are a couple of armors with this perk:

  1. DP-40 Hero of the Federation
  2. DP-11 Champion of the People
  3. DP-53 Saviour of the Free
  4. TR-9 Cavalier of Democracy

The first two are from the regular Warbond, while the other two are rewards for pre-ordering the game. The possibility to die less is super important, because as you already know, it only take a couple of hits from especially large enemies to send you to valhalla. It’s even better than having the strongest armor in Helldivers 2. So, this armor perk lets you save your respawn points which will be appreciated by all players in your group.

A-Tier

Helldivers 2 Fortified Armor

Reduces recoil by 30% when you’re crouching or prone. Additionally provides 50% resistance to explosive damage. This perk consists of two mediocre bonuses that when put together, make a really solid armor passive. This passive is available on:

  1. FS-05 Marksman Set
  2. FS-23 Battle Master

The recoil reduction will be great on larger weapons like LMGs, it’ll look cool when you go prone and lay down some cover fire. The explosive resistance is also nice, because, let’s be honest, with the friendly-fire active and your teammates throwing grenades blindly, you’re going to need it.

Helldivers 2 Engineering Kit Armor

Reduces recoil by 30% when you’re crouching or prone. Additionally, increases the amount of grenades you can carry with you by 2. Just like the Fortified perk, the Engineering Kit shares the recoil reduction bonus. However, the second part of the perk is arguably more interesting. The armor with this perk is:

  • CE-35 Trench Engineer

Unfortunately, this is the only armor set with this perk so far. While having reduced recoil is obviously good, what’s far better is being ableto carry more grenades. There’s literally no situation in the game when you don’t need those extra explosives.

B-Tier

Helldivers 2 Scout Armor

Allows you to put markers on the map that will act as radars, scanning for enemies for 2 seconds. Also, reduces the enemy detection range you by 30%. Two armors have this passive:

  1. SC-34 Infiltrator
  2. SC-30 Trailblazer Scout
  3. SA-04 Combat Technician

This could be a great perk if you’re playing solo, but if you’re playing with friends, good luck trying to stealth missions. The scanner is also not the best solution here. Most of the time, you’ll just spot the POI on your own. Besides your team can bring the Recon booster which will be an even better radar.

Helldivers 2 Servo-Assisted Armor

This perk gives you increased throwing range by 30% and additional 50% limb health. The only armor in the game with this passive so far is the:

  • SA-25 Steel Trooper

This armor is only found in the Premium Warbond, Superstore. Throwing farther could be useful to deploying stratagems, but it’s still a mediocre bonus, so is the extra limb health. Whenever your limb is damaged, you just heal it back up with a Stim and never think of it again.

C-Tier

Helldivers 2 Extra Padding Armor

Increases the armor stats of armor. This armor passive literally does nothing at all, and serves as the default or template passive for all armors. It’s the case, because there are no numbers or any additional information provided as to what it does exactly. This means that literally everything else is better than Extra Padding.

Conclusion

Choosing the right armor is only one of several decisions you have to make when preparing for the mission. You also have to pick your weapons, your stratagems and even your teammates. As of right now, there are more weapons than armor. The only thing that really separates one armor set from the other are the armor passives. That’s the key to choosing the right protection for your diver.

We’ve listed the best passives and described what makes them good or bad. The rest if up to you. Of course, you also have to unlock Helldivers 2 armor meta using earned medals, but that’s a different story. For now remember, than the perks that help you survive are more important than other types of perks.
