Nightfall The Ordeal has auto searching enabled and disabled depending on the difficulty. Higher difficulties, like Master and Grandmaster, have auto searching disabled, and you need to complete them with your own fireteam. 

Only these two difficulties of Nightfall can award players with Ascendant Shards, which is the material that guardians can use to masterwork their armor (Masterworking a single legendary armor piece will require you to spend one ascendant shard.
