What is the best way to gather items for crafting?

Use your map to figure out what routes are most efficient. Use the longest route possible and find as many high-value nodes as possible. Once you know your desired path, use +luck food and +proficiency boosters while gathering along the route until your bags are full. Waiting for the nodes to respawn takes more time.

Why does this boost take so long?

The time it takes to gather certain items for each skill is long, and the process is tedious. Although it may sound simple, some crafts have higher requirements and need specific materials to craft.
