The Whisper exotic mission is coming back to Destiny 2 after being absent for several years. This is the type of activity the players have missed the most in recent times, so the developers are bringing back some of the best exotic missions from the past expansions with a few tweaks here and there.
In this Whisper exotic mission guide, we’ll cover the mission’s complete walkthrough and discuss its rewards. While this mission isn’t exactly complex, it can be difficult for players who suck at jumping and platforming puzzles. The good news here is that among the changes done to this mission, one of them is the increased time limit. The Legend difficulty still retains the 20 minutes time limit to complete the mission. So if you also want to open all of the secret chests, you have to know the exact route and go through it flawlessly, or you’d be screwed. Luckily, the normal difficulty offers have much more time to get through the jumping section of the mission and deal with the combat section at the end.
The main reason for doing this mission is to get the Whisper of the Worm sniper rifle along with a few other cosmetic rewards. But if you don’t have the time or the patience to farm this mission on Heroic difficulty, you can buy Whisper Exotic Mission boost at SkyCoach. That way, you’ll get all of the rewards from the mission without needing to play through it yourself. This will save you a lot of time and headaches when trying to get the things that you want. The Whisper Mission Details
As for Destiny 2 Whisper locations, this mission is set deep under the surface of Io. Your fire team is tasked with investigating a Taken anomaly located somewhere whithin the Vex machinery under the planet’s ground level.
To start the Whisper of the Worm quest, just open the Into the Light menu from the Director and select this mission on the left side.BLOG20
The mission itself was originally made to be played as fast as possible, having a set time limit of 20 minutes. This forced players to take risks during the platforming half of the mission so they could have enough time to defeat all of the enemies and bosses at the end of it to complete the Destiny 2 Whisper quest on time. In this updated version of the mission, you and your fireteam will have double this amount of minutes to run through the mission. On top of that, the platforming puzzle itself will be changed slightly, which we’ll talk more about in our walkthrough. Even the combat encounter at the end of it has been brought up to date, so that’s something to keep in mind as well.
The Whisper Exotic Mission Walkthrough
The mission starts with you progressing through the cave while jumping over some obstacles. You can actually find a shortcut if, right at the starting position, you turn around and jump on the ledge over the entrance door. In the past, this shortcut could guarantee getting the Destiny 2 Whisper of the Worm. Once on the ledge, facing the wall, turn left and jump, hugging the wall. You’ll see a small, dark opening; go there, and you’ll find the Taken Blight, which looks like an orb of dark matter. If you destroy it, you’ll see a whole one on the floor. That’s your shortcut to the first jumping section.
The Whisper Platforming Section
Now, let’s get into the Whisper quest walkthrough. In the first jumping section, you’ll see the platforms where you need to jump on highlighted in red. Proceed through this course, but be mindful of the wall traps that will push you off the platform and into the abyss. If you do get pushed off, you’ll start at the checkpoint located at the very beginning of the jumping section. At some point, there’ll also be snipers who will try to shoot you as you jump between the platforms, avoiding the traps. Make sure you’re comfortable with using your double-jump variation.
Eventually, you’re going to endup in a big room with giant spheres slotted into right and left walls. The way forward lies through one of the empty slots. If you jump into the wrong one, you’ll die and reset. You’ll want to aim for the third opening on the upper level.
The next room will look green because it is a little overgrown. This is where you’ll be able to find the catalyst for the Whisper of the Worm. But we’ll get to that later. For now, continue moving through the room. On the other side of it, there’ll be another jumping section. At the end of it, you’ll come to the final stage, which is the combat arena.
The Whisper Combat Section
This section will likely be different in the newer version of the mission that comes out in May 2024. But the way it was structured back in the day was you enter the rooms full of enemies, and your goal is to clear them out completely. The way to do it is this:
- Room 1
The first room will have Blights all over the arena, but you can ignore them completely. Instead, you should focus on defeating powerful enemies placed on various platforms above the ground level. And then clear out weaker enemies on the ground. Make sure to chain your ultimates with the team for maximum effectiveness. Once there are no more enemies, you can enter the portal to the next room.
- Room 2
The second room is considerably smaller in size, but you’ll be fighting against Champion enemies. So, chain your Supers as much as possible to clear them out.
- Room 3
This next room will be a lot like the first one. You’ll have to fight off multiple knights like the Ravenous Taken Knight and all the snipers to make sure that your team doesn’t wipe. Then, focus on the yellow-bar large adds (additional enemies). Finally go through the open passage into the next area.
- Room 4
This next room is a more open one. It consists of large platforms and lots of Taken Psions who are ranged enemies. We recommend clearing them out before proceeding, because then they won’t snipe you as you move through this area. It’s not necessary to kill them, but its best to do so.
- Room 5
In the final room, you’ll be fighting against champions, powerful adds, and bosses. Clear out the Blights first, so you have more space to move around as you shoot other enemies. The adds will spawn in waves, so there’ll be brief moments when your fire team will be able to regroup. The third wave is the boss:
- Ta'aurc, Aspect of War
- Drevis, Aspect of Darkness
- Urzok, Aspect of Hate
They don’t have any special mechanics or moves like raid bosses. They’re just super strong, have a lot of HP and they deal lots of damage.
Unlocking Whisper of the Worm Catalyst
Now, we can talk about how to get Whisper of the Worm. If you want to get this exotic sniper rifle and the catalyst for it, you’re going to have to go through a tougher set of challenges.
The craftable weapon comes with a set of craftable perks. They are individual exotic Catalyst quests called "Whispers of the Taken". Three of them are known as of this moment:
- Field Prep - increases ammo reserves, faster reload, stow and ready speed when you're crouched.
- Defeat 10 Taken and collect their Essences
- Shoot down Taken Blights in the Whisper mission on Legend difficulty
- Finish the mission on Legend difficulty
- Speak to Eris Morn to complete the quest
Beware that the Legend difficulty has a time-limit set to 20 minutes, so you must act fast to complete all of these steps and have enough time left to finish the mission. The coming weeks will add more perks through Destiny 2 Exotic mission rotator, such as No Distractions and Enlightened Action. We'll add their descriptions as soon as they're available. BLOG20
The Catalyst called “Whispered Breathing” is replaced by these craftable perks and is no longer available.
Conclusion
The Whisper is one of the most exciting exotic missions in the past. It consists of the jumping puzzle, a few enemy encounters in the end, and 3 final bosses to defeat. So, as far as exotic missions go, this one was pretty fun to do. The timer did make players watch closely what they were doing, because failing the platforming section meant they were losing time. The returning version of the mission will also have the timer, but it will be doubled compared to the older version. It would make the mission much easier to do, but there’s a good chance that there will be some other way to make players stress out over this mission.
In any case, you’re now prepared to complete this mission, and you know what it’s going to take to unlock the Whisper of the Worm and its catalyst. Wish you luck, Guardians, and watch your step out there!
