The in-game tutorial about this system is very brief, and it doesn’t cover the system in depth. But this guide is all you’ll ever need to read to fully understand how modules work.

Module System Overview

Let’s start with the basics by answering the following question: what are modules in The First Desendant? If you’ve ever played Warframe, you can stop reading this guide; you already know everything you need to know. For those of you who haven’t encountered a similar system before, modules are items or pieces of gear that drop from monsters or are given as a reward for completing missions. These items, when equipped, provide all sorts of useful bonuses. BLOG20

There are generally two The First Descendant module types:

1. Descendant modules – modules that are equipped on characters and provide bonuses specific to the character
2. Weapon modules – modules that you attach to your weapons and provide benefits to your weapons.

Every module looks like a card with some information on it. Let’s take a look at the Heat Antibody module, for example:

 

In the center of the card, you can see the icon that represents the module and what it does. It’s the most essential piece of information on the module, but by looking at it, you might be able to conclude what the module does. In our case, it increases Fire Resistance.

On top, you can see the module socket type and the capacity. There five socket types and if you match the module socket type with the empty socket of the same type, the capacity of the module will be decreased by half.

Notice how Heat Antibody and the socket have the same socket type called “Almandine”. If you put this module into that socket, it’s capacity will reduce from 6 to 3. Buf if you slot the module with any other socket type that’s different from Almandine,  the module’s capacity will be increased by 50%.  

 Socket types are:

• Cerulean (C)
• Rutile (r)
• Malachite (///)
• Xantic (X)
• Almandine (^)

These are the five socket types. Descendants have 12 sockets total, 2 of which are designed for special types of modules:

1. Skill Module – these modules change how your Descendant’s skills work.
2. Sub Module – these modules change how your charged melee skill works.

The rest of the sockets can be either without any type, which means that you can put any module in them, and their capacity won’t change. Or, a slot may have a type, which means you better put the module with the same socket type in it.

Module Capacity and How to Increase It

Let’s talk about how to increase module capacity The First Descendant. Your Descendant has a limited total capacity, but as you increase your Mastery Rank, the maximum capacity for modules increases. So, never sleep on increasing the rank whenever you have enough EXP. Now, here are some more tricks about capacity:

• Increase Mastery Rank: The most effective way to increase Module Capacity is by upgrading your Mastery Rank. This rank is separate from your main character level and must be upgraded for each character. Completing Missions and Quests is the best way to improve your Mastery Rank. Achieving Mastery Rank 20 will increase your base Module Capacity for both Descendant and Weapon Modules from 25 to 50.
• Equip a Sub Attack Module: For Descendant Modules, you can equip a Sub Attack Module in the Sub Attack Slot on all your builds. These modules, such as Shortsword and Dual Claw, not only change the form of your Sub Attack action but also provide an additional boost to your Module Capacity. Always choose the Sub Attack Module that offers the highest Module Capacity increase.
• Use Research Requests: You can further enhance your Module Capacity by completing Research Requests. Visit Anais in Albion to complete these requests and obtain recipes for Energy Activators. Craft Energy Activators and use them in the Module Additional Settings menu under Increase Max Capacity, which consumes Energy Activators to increase your capacity.
• Equip Modules in the Matching Slot: While this method doesn't increase your overall capacity, it allows for more efficient use of available Module Capacity. Each Module has a Socket Type attribute, and you should match Modules to their corresponding socket type. This halves the base cost of the Module, whereas mismatched slots double the cost.

How To Get Rare Modules

Like everything in the game, modules come in different rarities, from the most common and least effective to the rarest and most effective. Those rarities are:

1. Common
2. Rare
3. Ultimate
4. Transcendent

In our experience, Common is the rarity that you’re going to get a lot. Rare and above are way more scarce, so pay attention to the mission rewards to find out if it has any Rare quality modules or above. But how to get better modules in The First Descendant? The answer is simple – you grind the game by killing enemies and farming missions. There’s one other method that you can use that becomes available later on when you reach a certain Mastery rank. You’ll be able to combine unwanted modules to create new ones. It’s going to take four modules to create one new. The result of the combining is always random, including the quality of a module.

How to Upgrade Modules

Modules can be upgraded. You can see its level progression on the left side of the Module card. The process of Enhanting modules can be done in Albion. Find an NPC called Silion who can:

1. Enhance
2. Dismantle
3. Combine - unlocks at Mastery Rank 9.

As you play the game, you’re going to collect a horde of modules. You’re going to have a lot of unwanted copies and modules that don’t fit your character or weapon. That’s why dismantling them for resources or combining them is such an effective way of getting rid of modules you don’t need. Enhancing is a bit more intricate process. 

Increasing the rank is going to cost you both Gold and Kuiper Shards, a currency specifically used for module enhancement. On top of that, if your rank is too low, you won’t be able to rank your modules above a certain level. Enchanting a module increases its effect and capacity. Luckily, the game has a clear way of showing what changes when you enchant a module. BLOG20

Weapon Modules Explained

Everything we’ve said about the Descendant modules so far applies to weapon modules as well. The only difference is that each weapon has 8 module sockets and no special sockets. Furthermore, weapon modules are not mutually exclusive. Each type of weapon has its own modules that it can use. Weapon types are recognized by their caliber:

1. General Rounds
2. Impact Rounds
3. Special Rounds
4. High-Power Rounds

These act like socket types, except you don’t get a capacity reduction for using modules with the matching weapon type.
