How Our Tier List Works

We’re going to be ranking only the First Descendant meta weapons, which are Ultimate guns that come with unique effects. We’re deliberately not going to cover weapon rarities like Normal and Rare because they drop from the enemies all the time, and the only real difference between the same copy of a gun is how much DPS it does.

Ultimate weapons, on the other hand, must be crafted by combining specific materials. All of these guns have unique designs, but more importantly, they all come with a unique mechanic that just doesn’t exist on Rare and Normal guns.

Since we’re only ranking the best guns in The First Descendant, our tiers represent the effectiveness of these ultimate guns in the game:

  • S Tier – The meta weapons that will work with any Descendant
  • A Tier – extremely effective and powerful weapons that you should commit to researching
  • B Tier – strong choices but only when used with specific Descendants
  • C Tier – good ultimate weapons with interesting effects, just not as strong as weapons from higher tiers
  • D Tier – useless crap that is not worth spending resources on

This is how we’re going to handle ranking in our The First Descendant best ultimate weapons tier list. If these descriptions don’t make much sense, keep reading, and we’ll explain exactly why each ultimate weapon is good or bad. BLOG20

The First Descendant Best Weapons Tier List

There are 21 ultimate weapons in our The First Descendant guns tier list. We ranked all of them so that you can have a clear understanding about which ones deserve your attention and which ones are best to be ignored entirely.

Tiers Weapons
S Tier Perforator, Executor, Clairvoyance, Nazeistra's Devotion, Python
A Tier Enduring Legacy, Albion Cavalry Gun, Secret Garden, Divine Punishment
B Tier Wave of Light, Piercing Light, Afterglow Sword, Thunder Cage
C Tier Sigvore's Proof, Final Masterpiece, Smithereens, Greg's Reversed Fate, King's Guard Lance
D Tier The Last Dagger, Restored Relic, Blue Beetle, Fallen Hope

Before we move on any further, keep in mind that we highly advise a lot of experimentation when it comes to finding the best guns to use in The First Descendant. The current tier list is nothing more than an indication that some weapons are preferred by a larger amount of players in this game. However, you shouldn’t disregard a weapon based on its popularity. This game is receiving regular content updates and balancing changes, which means that today’s underdog might end up in the meta sooner than you might notice. With that being said, let’s have a look at each of the current The First Descendant meta weapons and talk about some of the less impressive guns as of today.

S Tier

This tier includes a fair bit of different weapons, so you actually can pick one that suits your playstyle. At the same time, S Tier weapons are so good you really should consider researching all of them in the game. So, if you want to know what is the best weapon in The First Descendant, this tier will give you the answer.

Perforator – Hand Cannon

This Hand Cannon is designed to deal with powerful enemies that have shields. So, if you’re accurate enough to land shots consistently, you’ll be dealing with the toughest enemies in just a couple of trigger pulls.

  • Detect: When you hit a Weak Point, there is a chance to inflict damage to the enemy's Shield based on their maximum Shield value. The higher the Firearm Level, the closer this damage gets to the maximum potential. If the enemy's Shield is completely depleted by this damage, there is also a chance to stun the enemy.

Executor – Shotgun

This might be one of the strongest weapons in the game. The way it works is – the more pellets of the same shot land in your target, the more damage the shotgun will do. On top of that, your shots will electrocute enemies, increasing the damage even further!

  • Impending Judgement: When all fired bullets hit an enemy, it activates the unique ability Executor's Exaltation for 5 seconds. If any bullets miss while this effect is active, the effect stage decreases by 1. At the highest stage, firing a shot removes the effect but increases Firearm ATK on hit and inflicts Electrocution on the target. Hitting an Electrocuted enemy further increases Firearm ATK and applies this buff to the attack.

Clairvoyance – Beam Rifle

The more you hold down the fire button, the more damage it deals. On top of that, it slows down enemies by 70% and reduces their Chill element resistance, making this gun perfect for Viessa.

  • The Thing Beyond: Hitting an enemy with a Stage 2 Beam triggers Void Gaze on the target. When you hit an enemy with a Stage 3 Beam, it inflicts Appalled Calling on the target. In certain game modes, this effect is equivalent to Frostbite.

Nazeistra's Devotion – Hand Cannon

This Hand Cannon can both kill and heal. Every enemy shot gets their defense attribute reduced, making them an easier target for the rest of your team. Shoot this gun at your allies, and it will restore their shield at the cost of your MP. This gun is perfect for Jayber and Yujin as well as any other future support Descendant.

  • Fanaticism: On hitting an enemy’s Weak Point, inflicts the unique ability Devotion Mark on the target enemy. On hitting an Ally, that ally’s shield is restored by 10% at the cost of your MP. If your current MP is less than 85, this effect is not triggered.

Python – SMG

This is the best SMG in The First Descendant. Landing Weak Point shots will reduce the target’s defense against elemental attacks for your entire team!

  • Python Instinct: On hitting a Weak Point, inflicts the unique ability Prey on the target enemy. Can be stacked.

A-Tier

If you’ve played this game at least for a little bit, then you already know that the best weapons are usually those that can shoot lots of bullets without reloading. This is why this tier consists almost exclusively of LMGs and ARs.

Albion Cavalry Gun – Machine Gun

This is the best LMG in The First Descendant that deals extra damage to stunned or otherwise CC’d (crowd-controlled) enemies. This gun is perfect for Descendants who can stun enemies.

  • Cavalry: When hitting a stunned enemy, increases ATK and applies the effect of the attack. Achieving a critical hit on a stunned enemy has a set chance to inflict stun again on the enemy.

Enduring Legacy – Machine Gun

This LMG increases the rate at which elemental effects can trigger (Burn, Chill, etc), while at the same time decreasing the enemy’s elemental resistance attribute. This means that any Descendant who has element-based skills will love this gun.

  • Craftsmanship: On hitting an enemy, increase the Status Effect Trigger Rate corresponding to the element and inflict the unique ability Quenching to the target enemy (decreases Fire resistance and applies Burn). On hitting a Burned enemy, increase Firearm ATK and apply this buff to the attack.

Secret Garden – Tactical Rifle

The only semi-auto rifle in this tier actually restores your Tech Custom Resource while also increasing its damage.

  • Gardener: When using a Dimension skill, recovers Custom Resource with a set chance. When using a Tech skill, it grants the unique ability “Pest Control” with a set chance.

Divine Punishment – Assault Rifle

This is the perfect AR for support-type Descendants and one of the good guns in The First Descendant because every time you buff your allies, you get something in return for it. Besides, it’s an AR, one of the best weapon types you can wish for.

  • Prayer: Granting a buff to allies excluding yourself will grant the unique effect “Meditation” to yourself. Recovering an ally’s HP/Shield/MP/Custom Resources will grant the unique effect “Praise” to yourself. Inflicting a debuff on an enemy will grant the unique effect “Glory” to yourself.

B-Tier

This tier is for guns that are best when used on specific Descendants. So, when looking at the list of these guns in the game, carefully read the description of special abilities as it will contain hints about what character will benefit from the gun the most. BLOG20

Thunder Cage – SMG

A versatile weapon perfect for fast-paced combat, Thunder Cage releases electric shock waves when enemies are defeated. It is available early in the game but relies on defeating enemies to trigger its effects. It’s perfect for someone like Lepic with his grenade that pulls enemies together.

Piercing Light – Sniper Rifle

Piercing Light is excellent for precision and debuffing. It’s the best sniper in The First Descendant. It is a solid choice for all characters, especially Bunny, as it has a high chance of critical hits when hitting two or more enemies and removes buffs from opponents.

Afterglow Sword – Sniper Rifle

Designed to take down tough enemies with its enhanced critical hit rate, the Afterglow Sword requires significant time and effort to master. It’s a challenging weapon for those willing to invest in it.

Wave of Light – Scout Rifle

The Wave of Light scout rifle brings a lot of benefits to solo players who are looking to boost critical rate, reduce recoil, and cut down opponent regeneration. However, it requires constant reloading to activate its benefits.

C-Tier

Weapons from this tier are good enough, but they're more situational than the ones in the higher tiers. Handguns don't deal enough damage, while something like a rocket launcher always has problem getting enough ammo.

King's Guard Lance – Beam Rifle

King's Guard Lance is a powerful beam rifle that excels in area control. Its special ability increases duration and range with each activation but requires a long setup time.

Sigvore's Proof – Launcher

Sigvore's Proof has amazing abilities like sticking and detonating bombs and dealing significant damage. However, the detonation timing needs improvement.

Greg's Reversed Fate – Tactical Rifle

Greg's Reversed Fate significantly boosts AOE damage, making it useful for characters lacking in this area. However, it reduces aimed shot and hip-fire accuracy by 20%.

Final Masterpiece – Handgun

If you’re looking for the best pistol in The First Descendant, Final Masterpiece is a versatile handgun offering different buffs with each reload, such as increased critical hit rate and fire rate. However, the random nature of these buffs can be unhelpful in certain situations.

Smithereens – Shotgun

Smithereens is ideal for critical builds, increasing critical hit rate and damage. It suits characters like Sharen and Bunny but requires a long time to recover aim after shooting.

D-Tier

This tier is for guns that aren't worth crafting right now. Hopefully, future updates will make them more valuable in the meta.

Blue Beetle – Scout Rifle

Blue Beetle is not the strongest gun in The First Descendant, but it offers a good mix of offense and defense skills, making it solid for versatile characters. Its buffs depend on skill usage, which can be inconvenient. BLOG20

The Last Dagger – Handgun

The only thing that increases this gun’s damage is the high stacks of its buff that you get after killing enemies. You’ll have a hard time making this gun reach its potential because killing enemies to stack Patience just takes too long. It’s also too risky.

Fallen Hope – Assault Rifle

Fallen Hope only works when you damage poisoned enemies. So far, only one Descendant can do it, so this gun is just not worth it.

Restored Relic – Launcher

Restored Relic, just like any other launcher in the game, uses an ammo type that drops very rarely. On top of that, it’s a “guided round” that deals extra AoE damage and has a random chance of replacing a regular projectile.

Conclusion

With 21 unique weapons to pick from, there are a bunch of options for each Descendant and every playstyle. Some of these special abilities are better than others, so make sure to always check what the gun does before attempting to research it.

As a general rule of thumb, handguns are the weakest type of weapons, even with special abilities. They don’t deal as much damage as hand cannons, have limited ammo, and they’re in semi-automatic fire mode only. Beam rifles are also pretty situational, and so are tactical rifles. It’s always hard to find enough ammo for rocket launchers. So these are also very situational. The best weapon types are assault rifles and machine guns, as they already come with big enough magazine sizes and decent damage values. All you have to do is find the special ability on one of them that makes your build shine!
