What is Molten Core Raid in Season of Discovery?

Molten Core has been revamped to become a 20-player raid in Season of Discovery. Players will fight the same 10 bosses present back in the original release. The developers have also added a completely new boss to test your skills. Conquering the raid will reward you with class-specific Tier 1 sets, as well as a variety of weapons and recipes.

Season of Discovery Molten Core Location

Molten Core location in SoD has not changed – the raid is situated within Blackrock Mountain. The destination point is placed between Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge. Players are required to go across Blackrock Depths to get to the instance portal.

How to Enter Molten Core in SoD

Here is a detailed instruction on how to enter Molten Core in SoD:

  1. Get to Blackrock Mountain through either Searing Gorge or Burning Steppes.
  2. Pass through Blackrock Depths, a dungeon in Blackrock Mountain.

Molten Core Boss Order in Season of Discovery

It is easy to get lost in the caverns of Molten Core. Wherever you go, everything is filled with deadly lava. To prepare for a fight, you need to know exactly in what chamber you can encounter a boss. Take a look at the map below to learn about Molten Core boss order in Season of Discovery:

As you can see on the Molten Core map, you will fight all the bosses in the following order:

  1. Lucifron
  2. Magmadar
  3. Gehennas
  4. Garr
  5. Baron Geddon
  6. Shazzrah
  7. Sulfuron Harbinger
  8. Golemagg
  9. Majordomo
  10. Ragnaros

The suggested route is the most well-connected one. While you can go the other way and kill Gehennas and Garr first, it makes little sense. You will have to return to Lucifron and Magmadar anyway. Therefore, we highly recommend starting your run exactly as shown above.

Note: With the release of WoW SoD Phase 4, a new boss has been added to Molten Core. Once we learn more details about it, this part of the guide will be updated.

Season of Discovery Molten Core Level Requirement

The level requirement for Molten Core in Season of Discovery is level 60. This is the maximum you can reach while playing throughout all phases of this realm. Reaching this threshold means all the participant have unlocked their characters’ full potential and are ready for this glorious fight.

When is Molten Core Reset in SoD?

Molten Core has a weekly reset, just like any other SoD raid you finished before. In other words, you will only receive your loot once per week. All other runs will have no specific raid loot you usually get. Molten Core in Season of Discovery is expected to be released on July 25 at 10:00 p.m. CET for Europe and 1:00 p.m. PST for North America. Come back here later on to see a SoD Molten Core reset timer and get ready for battle.

How to Get Attuned to Molten Core in SoD

To get attuned to Molten Core in SoD, you need to complete the Attunement to the Core questline. You can start the quest by talking to Lothos Riftwaker in Blackrock Mountain. The easiest way to find this NPC is to enter through Searing Gorge. You need to be at least level 55 to start this quest.

Here is a step-by-step guide on Molten Core attunement:

  1. Start the Attunement to the Core quest by finishing the dialog with Lothos Riftwaker.
  2. Complete the Blackrock Depths dungeon.
  3. Progress through the BRD instance until you reach the Molten Core entrance.
  4. Once you are there, get the Core Fragment.
  5. Bring the Core Fragment to Lothos Riftwaker and complete the quest.

By taking these five simple steps, you can unlock the direct portal to Molten Core. From this moment, you can save much time whenever getting to the raid. Also, you will no longer have to fight through endless mobs attacking you within Blackrock Mountain. If you wish to get this Molten Core Attunement done fast, you can trust this job to our PROs.

Strongest Classes for Molten Core in SoD

The Molten Core raid is designed in a way that you can complete it with any group composition. However, specific picks can make your run much easier. Check out the best Molten Core classes in Season of Discovery below.

Best DPS for Molten Core

The following three classes are the best DPS for Molten Core:

  • Fury Warrior: High sustained melee damage output is the main reason why Fury Warriors are a preferred pick. Using abilities like Bloodthirst and Whirlwind, they can deal significant damage to both single targets and larger enemy groups. Their high attack speed and dual-wielding capabilities allow them to maintain consistent DPS throughout the raid.
  • Combat Rogue: This class is known for its exceptional melee DPS. With abilities like Sinister Strike and Adrenaline Rush, they can inflict immense damage quickly. Their utility skills, such as Evasion also help them avoid incoming attacks, ensuring they stay in the fight longer and keep their damage numbers popping up.
  • Marksmanship Hunter: They provide excellent ranged DPS with powerful shots like Aimed Shot and Multi-Shot. Their pet companions add extra damage and utility to the raid. Hunters can also lay traps and use abilities like Trueshot Aura to boost the overall damage output of the group.

Best Tanks for Molten Core

Having tough Tanks is the key to your raid group's survivability. Below, we have prepared a list of the three best Tanks for Molten Core:

  • Protection Warrior: This is the most obvious pick, as Prot Warriors boast high survivability and excellent threat generation. Abilities like Shield Slam and Sunder Armor allow them to maintain aggro on bosses and adds effectively. Defensive cooldowns like Shield Wall and Last Stand help them in soaking incoming damage.
  • Feral Druid: Unlike the previous class, Feral Druids are a less obvious choice for this role. However, they feature not only amazing capabilities but can also deal decent damage in return. Abilities like Maul and Swipe help them generate solid threat on multiple targets. Their ability to quickly switch between tanking and damaging forms adds flexibility to the raid, providing emergency DPS when needed.
  • Protection Paladin: Similarly to Prot Warriors, they bring excellent threat generation and damage mitigation to the raid. Abilities like Consecration and Holy Shield allow them to control and damage big groups of enemies. Thanks to buffs and auras, such as Blessing of Kings and Devotion Aura, you can be sure your teammates will stay alive and perform their corresponding roles.

Best Healers for Molten Core

To keep your raid group up and running, use these best Healers for Molten Core:

  • Holy Priest: This class is known as a “basic pick” for most raids. They boast a wide range of healing spells, such as Greater Heal and Prayer of Healing. Their strong single-target and group healing capabilities make them indispensable in managing raid-wide damage. Additionally, their buffs like Power Word: Fortitude improve the raid's overall survivability.
  • Holy Paladin: Perfect for single-target healing due to spells like Holy Light and Flash of Light. Their ability to provide strong, consistent healing makes them vital for keeping the main tank and other crucial raid members alive. They also bring valuable buffs like Blessing of Wisdom and Blessing of Protection to support the raid.
  • Restoration Shaman: Usually used for group healing with spells like Chain Heal and Healing Wave. Their totems provide significant buffs and utility, such as Mana Tide Totem for mana regeneration and Tremor Totem to counter fear effects. This utility, combined with their strong healing output, makes them strong picks for Molten Core and other raids.

If you can work as a team, beating all Molten Core bosses would not be a problem with any composition. Establish good communication, make sure everyone knows their roles, and you will succeed. The raid has been tested a lot of times and is perfectly balanced. The outcome depends purely on how well your party performs and communicates. BLOG20

Season of Discovery Molten Core Bosses Guide

Defeating all bosses in Molten Core is a challenge, no matter what team composition you have. It is also about learning their mechanics and abilities. With our Season of Discovery Molten Core bosses guide you will take down all the foes who stand in your way.

Boss Tactics for DPS Tactics for Tanks Tactics for Healers Abilities

Lucifron

Getting rid of Flamewaker Protectors is the highest priority. Try not to take extra damage from Cleave and Shadow Shock whenever possible. Minimize the damage your allies take. It can be done if the boss and Flamewaker Protectors are positioned properly. The main goal here is not to let others suffer damage from Cleave. Impending Doom and Lucifron’s Curse should be dispelled first. Those who are affected by Dominate Mind are also of the highest priority.

Lucifron's Curse

Cleave

Impending Doom

Shadow Shock

Dominate Mind

Magmadar

Avoid Panic if possible even if you are a melee DPS. As a ranged DPS, try not to get hit by Lava Bomb. This is important since most of the healing will be concentrated on melee DPS rather than ranged ones. As a Warrior, you can use Berserker Rage to dispel Panic. Also, keep the boss in one place and do not move unless you are hit by Lava Bomb. Watch for melee DPS and Tanks HP all the time. This is especially important when the boss activates Frenzy.

Magma Spit

Frenzy

Panic

Lava Bomb

Gehennas

Do not stand in one place if it is affected by Rain of Fire. Dispel Gehennas’ Curse if you have utility abilities for this. Maintain aggro all the time and get away from the zone covered with Rain of Fire. Otherwise, your Healer might not be able to heal you up. Prioritize healing allies affected by Rain of Fire. Dispel Gehenna’s Curse from your melee DPS and Tanks.

Gehennas' Curse

Shadow Bolt

Rain of Fire

Garr

Firesworn is your priority target you need to take down whenever they spawn. Also, make sure you never stand near an exploding add, as they deal a ton of damage. Off-tanks like Feral Druid can take care of Firesworn as they spawn. Make sure you are not positioned too close to each other to avoid taking too much AoE explosion damage. Off-tanks should be your priority when they suffer damage from Firesworn. Also, heal up those allies who are affected by Antimagic Pulse.

Eruption

Magma Shackles

Immolate

Separation Anxiety

Antimagic Pulse

Baron Geddon

Spread out if you are affected by Living Bomb, spend as much Mana as possible to suffer from Ignite Mana less. Maintain constant aggro and do not take too much damage from Inferno whenever possible. Dispelling Living Bomb from your melee DPS and Tanks should be a priority. When Inferno is active, make sure to heal up the squishiest targets.

Ignite Mana

Inferno

Living Bomb

Shazzrah

Do not stay too close to other melee DPS when Arcane Explosion is cast. Interruping Deaded Magic should be a priority whenever possible. Keep the boss steady in the center of the area. Do not move unless you have to get away from Arcane Explosion. Heal up all the targets who take damage from Arcane Explosion. Having a mass Healer like Restoration Druid would be the best in this case.

Deaden Magic

Gate of Shazzrah

Arcane Explosion

Sulfuron Harbinger

Make sure the boss has no one to empower with Inspire. For this, you need to get rid of all adds spawning around the area. Help your DPS clear out adds so that the boss cannot cast Dark Mending too often. Heal up DPS and Tanks affected by Shadow Word: Pain. Whenever possible, help your damage dealers to get rid of adds.

Dark Mending

Inspire

Shadow Word: Pain

Golemagg

Prioritize attacking Golemagg rather than Core Ragers. Keep aggro on both the boss and Core Ragers. Get rid of the latter. Your DPS should be able to focus on the boss freely. Your main Tanks are the highest priority in this fight. They will suffer tons of incoming damage from the boss and Core Ragers. Pyroblast can make the situation even worse if you do not heal up in time.

Magma Splash

Summon Core Rager

Pyroblast

Majordomo

Get rid of Flamewaker Healers above the Elite ones. Clear them out as soon as they spawn before they can heal the boss or other adds. Help your DPS take down both Flamewaker types. Maintain aggro on the boss and interrupt the most dangerous spells whenever possible. Tanks are your main priority once again. Make sure you are healing them only during Magic Reflection.

Damage Shield

Summon Flamewaker Healer/Flamewaker Elite

Magic Reflection

Ragnaros

Do not stay too close during Lava Burst casts. Get rid of adds ASAP throughout the Submerge phase. Keep the boss positioned in the center of the area. Return to melee range after Wrath of Ragnaros. Group healing is essential during the Submerge phase. Make sure to have a Restoration Druid for this purpose.

Magma Blast

Lava Burst

Wrath of Ragnaros

Depending on your team composition, the suggested SoD Molten Core tactics might change accordingly. We have outlined the basic recommendations you need to keep in mind when fighting the bosses.

Molten Core Trash Mobs in SoD

Getting the upper hand in boss fights revolves not only about killing the main enemy. During any encounter, you will be surrounded by trash mobs, also known as adds. They are not too dangerous by themselves. In most cases, they empower the boss or serve as a target for their buffs. If not killed in time, they might become a serious problem later in the battle. We have enlisted the most notable Molten Core trash mobs in SoD below:

  • Molten Giants and Molten Destroyers: Be aware of their AoE stuns and never get too close to them. Ideally, you want to take them down from a distance.
  • Ancient Core Hounds: Your Tank needs them to keep away from the raid when they are about to die. Do not stay too close when they cast their fire breath, as it deals AoE damage.
  • Lava Surgers: Getting knocked off the platform is the most annoying thing you can experience when fighting this add. If they become a huge problem, Warlocks can use their Banish to make the raid’s life a bit easier.
  • Firelords: They will spawn additional trash mobs if not killed timely.
  • Lava Elementals: They feature an AoE stun and a Fire debuff to be aware of. They should never be kited close to your allies. Ideally, you want to take them down from afar.

Best Consumables for Molten Core in SoD

No class can survive a raid without a bunch of consumables. The very basic example of how useful they are is when you need to restore HP or Mana in a critical moment. They also significantly boost your damage done, which is crucial for DPS roles. Here, we have gathered the best Molten Core consumables in Season of Discovery:

  • Fire Protection Potion: Since most of the boss deal Fire damage, bringing this potion is necessary.
  • Restorative Potion: Used to dispel Magic, Curse, Poison, or Disease effects. This is especially helpful if your Healer does not perform too well.
  • Flask of Supreme Power: Make your spells deal higher damage. Casters like Mage or Warlock should always carry at least a few.
  • Flask of the Titans: Significantly boosts your survivability when playing as a Tank.
  • Greater Arcane Elixir: Another spell damage increase any caster would benefit from.
  • Elixir of the Mongoose: Grants extra Agility and enhances crit chance, which is super useful for melee classes like Rogues.
  • Major Mana Potion: Can restore Mana after Baron Geddon’s Ignite Mana or in any other critical situation.

Apart from these potions, bring any food you find useful particularly for your class/spec. For instance, Runn Tum Tuber Surprise is beneficial for casters. Smoked Desert Dumplings are a must-have thing for Tanks and melee damage dealers. The stat increase they provide might not be as significant as what you get from potions, but it is still worth it.

Conclusion
