Unlocking the Legendary Khvostov 7G-0X

To start off our Destiny 2 Khvostov guide, you must know that completing the main campaign story is a hard requirement, because after that, you’ll need to accept the quest for another exotic, Khvostov 7G-0X, called Destined Heroes.

“We’ve been contacted by Micah-10, a legendary Guardian and old friend of Cayde’s. Go To the Arbor of Light in the undercroft of the old Tower to contact her.”

Once you’ve picked up the quest, you will have to interact with the radio nearby. Upon doing this, you will have to investigate Savathun’s Lucent Hive activity near the portal.

We’ve already covered the walkthrough of this mission in full detail in our guide for the Khvostov 7G-0X exotic auto rifle, but here are a few simple tips for this mission:

  1. The main mechanic is about using Knight’s Sword to deflect enemy fire back at the plate runes, matching the corresponding enemy energy type to the right color of the rune.
  2. When dealing with shielded tunes, first, you need to use the Sword’s heavy attack to send a projectile and destroy an orb hovering above a shielded rune.

Once you complete this quest, the next step is far simpler. Come back to the Lost City and speak to Micah-10; she will give you a new quest called Convalescence: Rootbound.

“Micah-10’s flock of unpartnered Ghosts have scattered through the Pale Heart, called by something no one else can hear. They have not returned, and they have no partners to protect them. Follow the traces they have left to bring them home safely.”

This will create a waypoint on your map. You’ll need to head over to the marked place and pick up a Ghost.

After that, go back to Micah-10’s console, complete the Khvostov 7G-0X quest, and get a new one called Convalescence: Underbrush. Just to be clear, there isn’t one quest for this gun. You need to do multiple quests in order to get this auto rifle. BLOG20

“In exploring the Pale Heart, you’ve discovered the Traveler’s Light taking shapes that augment your powers. Seek out more of the Traveler’s Blessings.”

The objective of this quest is to acquire a Flickering Blessing mod by opening chests anywhere in the Pale Heart. Pathfinder field assignment chests have a massively higher chance of granting Traveler’s Blessing mods.

Once you’ve opened enough chests, you’ll need to investigate the new growth in the Arbor of Light. All you have to do here is go back to Micah-10’s room and interact with her Ghost. After that, you go back to Lost City once again to finish the quest and accept yet another one called Convalescence: Greenery.

“The Witness’s forces are still running wild in the Pale Head. Before you can get into the place Micah mentioned, you’ll need to restore balance to the larger area it’s part of.”

This quest’s objective is – to open Overthrow chests in the Landing to gain access to the location Micah indicated.

So, the job is simple enough: farm Overthrow and open chests until you get the information you need. After that, you’ll need to follow the vision of the Light and complete the Sword Dance Cyst found in the Refraction zone. Actually, you can take on these Cyst missions in any order you want, as long as you do them all.

You’re doing this to get 15 Lost Encryption bits to open the chest containing the legendary version of Khvostov. 9 bits come from the gold region chests (3 per area with a landing spot). The remaining six come from scrap heaps in each of the six Cyst activities. Only 3 of these can be active on the map at the same time. Cyst activities are:

  1. Sword Dance
  2. Moth-infested
  3. Slayer
  4. Searing Light
  5. Smothering Darkness
  6. Aerial Ace

In this quest, you’re going to have to fight the Hive, but your objective is to use the Hive sword (with unlimited ammo) and destroy shielded crystals scattered around the area. If you want to do this quest quickly, I recommend ignoring the enemies as much as possible and just focusing on finding and destroying those crystals. Sometimes, you’ll use your sword to clear debris to open the path.

The reason you need to do this Khvostov 7G-0X exotic quest, is actually that inside that cave, you need to find the Lost Encryption key that’s been broken down into 15 bits. If you’ve already done this mission before, it’s entirely possible to come back to the area for the key. Once the key is in your possession, go ahead and complete the Cyst mission objective. After that, speak to Micah’s Ghost, then to Micah herself through the terminal to get to the next part of the questline.

You’ll receive a quest called Convalescence: Budding, which will reward you with Microcosm, but that’s not the quest we’re going to focus on right now.

Instead, after taking this quest, you’ll see another one under the Lost Ghosts tab called “Alone in the Dark.” This will be your next quest to do. You’ll be tasked with discovering 6 Cysts, which is a mission you just did. These missions are on a rotational schedule, so one is always available.

After that, go to the Blooming zone and follow the marker to recover another lost Ghost. Once you do that, you’re going to have to go back to farming some more Overthrow and open its chests, but this time, you must do it in the Blooming zone. Keep doing it until the next step of the questlines pops up on your screen.

The next step in the “Alone in the Dark” quest will have you follow the marker into yet another cave, where you’ll encounter a mini-boss. After defeating it, you’ll need to interact with a wounded Ghost.

Then, you will come back to speak with Micah-10’s console as you always do to receive another reward and further instructions. BLOG20

Rinse and repeat until you have fifteen Lost Encryption Bits, which will give you the Lost Encryption Code.

Go to the Divide and open the golden chest to get the Legendary Khvostov 7G-0X auto rifle.

Getting the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X

Now, we can start wondering about how to get Khvostov 7G-0X exotic Auto Rifle. To get the rifle, you need to collect 17 motes of Light.

The first one is in the Last City. Head down to the Micah-10’s location and keep going down until you end up outside, then locate the platform highlighted by a red light and use it to get to the waterwall, which is where you’ll find the mote.

The second mote is super easy. Go to the Landing zone, and as soon as you spawn, drop down all the way into the water pool created by the waterfall. That’s where you’ll find the second mote.

For the third one, you’ll want to go from the same Landing spawn along the left side of the zone all the way through the caves with the blue crystals. When you exit the cave system on the other side, you’ll see a ledge, and if you look down, you’ll see a platform on which you can jump. It’s also close to a waterfall, so see if you're near it to make sure you’re in the right spot. Go through the waterfall, and that’s where you’ll find the mote.

Now, go to the Blooming spawn and go to the left side until you see a big tree. Climb to the top of the tree and jump over to the other tree; that’s where you’ll find the fourth mote.

Next, go back to the Blooming spawn and activate the Searing Light Cyst. Follow the bird through the lake, reach Zavala farmhouse, and then cut through the left side towards the waterfall. Then, open the door by shooting the right hive runes and head inside. As soon as you’re inside, look above you to find a small hole in the rock. Jump in there, and you’ll find the mote.

For the next mote, exit the cave and aim towards the left side, going through the ice mountain. Keep climbing the mountain until you reach a structure. On the left side of it, you’ll see a satellite dish. Jump over it, and you’ll see the mote of light.

For the next mote, land on the Impass and keep going to the left side until you reach a structure with a small pyramid in the center. The mote will be at the top of the pyramid. Just jump on it and get the mote. BLOG20

To get to the next mote, first go to the Transgression. Keep going forward until you find a statue holding a rock. That will be your point of reference. Keep going and take the next turn right. You’ll eventually arrive in a room with a round platform, and to the left of it, there’ll be a tree. The mote is hidden behind that tree.

We’re getting very close to finally learning how to unlock Khvostov 7G-0X. But there’s one more big step to do. Go back to the Lost City and go to the left side until you find yourself in a room with pillars. Place Visions of the Traveler on each pillar, and it will spawn a chest. But, you won’t be able to open it, as it will say, “You lack something.” Time to go back to collecting more motes!

You’re going to need to collect the remaining nine motes. To get them, you’re going to have to do the Overthrow activity and kill the last boss in each of the three zones. There are three bosses in each landing zone. Each time you kill a boss, they will drop a mote of Light. You can track how many bosses you killed by tracking one of 3 Triumphs associated with it:

  • Wasteland Warrior – Defeat all 3 bosses in the Impasse
    • Thuna, Subjugator of Chasms
    • Rhaska, Subjugator of Thresholds
    • Araaxen, Reverent of the Witness
  • Tower Defender – defeat all 3 bosses in the Landing
    • Ir Okmarr, Devoted to Savathun
    • Nolakh, Star-Eater
    • Mharuk, Sky-Stealer
  • Basic Brawler – defeat all 3 bosses in the Blooming
    • Voxelos, Taken by the Witness
    • Kholon, Taken by the Witness
    • Koftiks, Taken by the Witness

These triumphs are found in the Pale Heart category of triumphs under the World and Exploration tabs. Once you kill the last boss, they’re going to drop an exotic Mote of Primordial Light.

Now, go back to the chest in the room with pillars and open the chest to receive the Exotic Khvostov auto rifle.

How Good is Khvostov 7G-0X Exotic?

The Khvostov 7G-0X is known for its powerful performance, especially in terms of add (enemy) clearing. The weapon is equipped with unique traits that enhance its damage and utility in combat.

It’s trait is called The Right Choice - Every seventh bullet from this weapon deals additional damage and ricochets to nearby targets.

Key Features:

1. Eyes Up Guardian:

  • Collecting orbs of power increases the damage of the the weapon's next several Ricochet shots.
  • Provides more damage and more bounces between targets.
  • Players can create orbs of power using a Siphon mod (e.g., Kinetic Siphon).

2. Shoot to Loot:

  • Shooting an orb of power or ammo brick picks it up and reloads all equipped weapons.
  • Alternatively, players can walk over the orb or use their class ability to pick it up.

3. The Right Choice:

  • Every seventh bullet deals additional damage and ricochets to nearby targets.
  • This allows the weapon to clear ads efficiently by ricocheting bullets off of targets.

The Khvostov 7G-0X can be used effectively in various game modes, including raids, due to its ability to clear groups of enemies quickly. It's particularly useful in low-level activities for its efficiency.

Conclusion

Khvostov 7G-0X D2 is a pretty overpowered assault rifle. Assault rifles, in general, are super versatile weapons that are easy to use in any type of content. Khvostov 7G-0X specifically has an awesome perk where every 7th bullet ricochets from one enemy to another, dealing increased damage to all targets. It’s like jolting your enemies but with much more damage.

Unfortunately, the steps needed to get this weapon are extremely long and tedious. First, you have to obtain the legendary version of the gun, which is done by 15 Lost Encryption bits, which are hidden through the Cyst activities. Each of these missions needs to be activated and completed, but the bits themselves are hidden somewhere inside the mission, so you must keep your eyes open. Once you have the legendary version, you can then start working towards the exotic. And again, the goal here is to collect 17 more items, called motes of Light. This process could be even more difficult for some players. The first 8 motes are hidden throughout the Pale Heart. Once you have them, you can spawn the chest containing the exotic. But you can’t open it. To get the last 9 motes, you need to farm the Overthrow activity and kill all 9 unique bosses. Only then can you finally open the chest and claim the exotic.

We hope that this guide has helped you do that. We try to make the directions as clear as possible in our guides about exotic weapons, but sometimes its hard to describe the exact place. So, good luck to you, Guardians and may you acquire the Exotic Khvostov 7G-0X!
