Diablo 4 Dungeon Types
Having over 150 dungeons currently available in the game, they are split into 5 different categories. In this part of our Diablo 4 dungeon overview, we will provide a brief description of each of them.
- Campaign Dungeons
When progressing through the main storyline, you will inevitably have to enter certain dungeons. They must be cleared out to proceed further. As a rule, these dungeons can be done only once and cannot be repeated when playing on the same character. However, you can complete them again when playing on an alt.
- Quest Dungeons
In Diablo 4, numerous Side Quests involve venturing into dungeons to accomplish specific tasks or retrieve important objects. Some of these quests may even incorporate a small dungeon event as part of the overall storyline. Similar to Campaign Dungeons, instances tied to the questline are typically intended for a single playthrough. On the other hand, dungeons that serve as mere locations for completing tasks or obtaining objects are often not limited to a single playthrough.
- Farming Dungeons
While all dungeons provide players with generous rewards upon successful completion, there are certain dungeons that are perfect for farming. They can be completed end infinite number of times allowing you to farm Legendaries, gold, XP, and other unique items.
Two of such dungeons can be found in the starting zone, Fractured Peaks. They are called Anica’s Claim and Deadman’s Dredge. When clearing out them, you are to Collect Animus from Animus Carriers to fill a bar. Slaying Animus Carriers rewards you with tons of loot, as they are Elite mobs. Here is a short instruction for farming dungeons:
- Make sure your inventory is empty;
- Go into Anica's Claim in Malnok or Dead Man's Dredge in Gale Valley;
- Defeat all Animus Carriers;
- Collect everything they drop;
- Return to town;
- Sell everything you do not need;
- Clear your inventory again;
- Reset a chosen dungeon;
- Repeat as many times as you want.
This is a great method to farm powerful items when you only begin playing. Besides, it will not be too challenging, as you doing the same steps over and over again.
- Capstone Dungeons
This dungeon type holds a significant role as the culmination of the campaign storyline. As players progress through the campaign, specific milestones are reached that unlock access to these impactful dungeons. Successfully completing a Capstone Dungeon not only provides a thrilling conclusion to the storyline but also grants access to higher World Tiers, which in turn unlocks new loot and various advantages, including increased Renown rewards.
As an example, you will unlock the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon in Kyovashad during the Fractured Peaks campaign. Completing it on World Tier 2 unlocks World Tier 3.
- Nightmare Dungeons
This type of dungeon offers an elevated level of difficulty compared to regular dungeons. By utilizing a Nightmare Sigil, players have the ability to augment a regular dungeon, introducing additional objectives and a variety of affixes that enhance the intensity and playstyle of the dungeon, thereby presenting extra challenges to overcome.
By completing Nightmare Dungeons, you can hope to get Sacred, Ancestral, and Unique items. They are currently the most powerful gear types found in the game. To make things more challenging, the game developers have set a certain limit on how many times players can respawn when engaging in this dungeon type. BLOG20
