The Final Shape expansion keeps re-shaping Destiny 2, pun intended! The developers are introducing a new system that will change one of the most essential aspects of the game – the grind. In this Destiny 2 Pathfinder guide, we’ll explain what Pathfinder is and how to use it for Power leveling.

The Final Shape is the last big expansion in Destiny 2, so it aims to provide the game’s ultimate experience. The game has grown a lot over the years of its live service. Tons of content have been added, and more systems have been layered on top of the base game. Pathfinder will simply streamline some of these systems, making your daily routine easier to track and follow. Its main purpose is to replace the repeatable bounty system that you get from your usual activity vendors by combining all of them into one neat and easily accessible menu.

What is Destiny 2 Pathfinder System

All Destiny 2 players start their game session the same way. We boot up the game, open destinations, and then go from orbit to the Tower, Helm, or the latest destination. Then, we come up to the activity vendors - Zavala for Vanguard, Drifter for the Gambit, Shaxx for Crucible and Onslaught, Banshee-44 for weapon bounties, and maybe Ada-1 for some transmog bounties.

So, you accept all of the daily and weekly bounties from as many vendors as you need, and then you go do those specific activities to complete bounties. As you complete them, you increase the Vendor’s Reputation and get new gear along the way. That new gear may or may not up your Power Level to +1. All of this busy work, running between vendors, then doing their related activities is what Pathfinder will completely reboot this grind process. 

It kind of looks like a star chart with 20 nodes. Each node is some sort of bounty or a challenge. There are 5 Destiny 2 Pathfinder tiers with a decreasing amount of tasks:

• Tier 5 – 6 objectives;
• Tier 4 – 5 objectives;
• Tier 3 – 4 objectives;
• Tier 2 – 3 objectives;
• Tier 1 – 2 objectives;

Your goal is to complete at least one task from each of the five tiers, which will visually plot a course from tier 5 to tier 1, going from left to right until you reach the Pathfinder reward. Nothing is stopping you from completing all 20 objectives.

Every time you complete one of these tasks, you must go to this screen and claim your reward. Just like bounties, each of these nodes has a reward. Once you claim the final reward, the Destiny 2 Pathfinder system screen will reset, revealing a new set of 20 objectives, and you can do it all over again.

You can reset the Pathfinder as many times as you want, but over time, the rewards will get smaller and smaller. On Wednesdays, there’ll be a hard Destiny 2 Pathfinder reset, meaning the diminishing rewards will reset.

What’s interesting is that some of the objectives from Pathfinders will be specific to each of the core activities, while others could be completed in more than one activity. This means that we’re finally not locked to one game mode when we want to grind some bounties besides the Banshee–44’s.

The second Pathfinder is all about the Pale Heart destination. It features objectives related to this new location:

• Patrols
• Destination Bounties
• Lost Sectors
• Chests
• Field Assignments (new!)
• Strikes

In future, there may be more unique Pathfinders tailored to specific content, like new destinations, and such.

Destiny 2 Pathfinder Rewards

You will be getting different sets of rewards for completing objectives in the Pathfinder and for completing the entire path. As we’ve said before, the more times you reset, the fewer Destiny 2 Pathfinder rewards you’ll get. Here’s a rough draft of how it works: BLOG20

When you’re doing your Core Activities Pathfinder, also called the Rituals Pathfinders (as the devs call it), the same rules for rewards apply – the more you reset, the fewer Destiny 2 Pathfinder powerful rewards you’ll get in the end. Here’s an example:

Remember, all of this resets every Tuesday, so depending on how much you play, you can do an infinite amount of Paths, but after the 10th reset, you’ll be getting the same amount of rewards each time.
