What is Fungal Folly in The War Within?

Fungal Folly is the second Delve you encounter in The War Within. Judging by the name, the main theme of this activity revolves around mushrooms. To be more specific, you will interact with jumping mushrooms and Sporbit. Similarly to other Delves in the game, Fungal Folly has three variants in its rotation:

  • Explorer’s Competition
  • Lost Miners
  • Spreading Decay

In any variety of the activity, your gameplay is built around two types of mushrooms and Sporbit:

  • First Mushroom Type – It will send your character (and any NPC) high into the air if jumped on, allowing them to reach high ledges.
  • Second Mushroom Type – It will push your character a short distance forward when stepped on. This can potentially lead to death due to the Delve’s rocky terrain.
  • Sporbit – These explosive spores will detonate with a slight day if attacked or stepped on. This explosion will push all creatures (both players and NPCs) within the blast radius away.

Random Sporbit Fact: After exploding, they regenerate their HP and jump in a random direction, continuing to move randomly around the area. They can be knocked back, pulled, slowed, and immobilized.

Interacting with the two mushroom types is critical to completing the Fungal Folly walkthrough with minimum revives. This is necessary to unlock higher tiers with better rewards. The mushroom mechanics stay the same when entering them, but enemies become more challenging.

Fungal Folly Location

You can find Fungal Folly location in the south-central part of the Isle of Dorn, south of Dornogal. Follow these coordinates, and you will get there in a jiffy – 51.9, 65.5. Once it is possible, we will add a map to demonstrate how to find Fungal Folly in the game.

How to Do Fungal Folly in The War Within

Just like all other Delves, Fungal Folly features a set of mechanics we have already talked about. No matter what variant of this activity you are playing, the main idea stays the same. You need to jump on mushrooms and dodge explosive spores. To ensure you know exactly what to prepare for, we will explain how to do Fungal Folly in any of its three variants.

Note: Depending on the chosen tier, the difficulty will increase accordingly. You will also earn better rewards. Also, be prepared for enemies to have more HP and deal greater damage by default.

Keep reading our Fungal Folly guide to learn about the different tiers available and their requirements. BLOG20

Explorer’s Competition

In the Explorer’s Competition version, the entire Delve consists of only two stages. They are located on a single map with significant elevation differences:

  • Complete 5 League of Explorers Challenges
  • Beat the final boss Spinshroom

Throughout the Delve area, you can find five other explorers trapped in Fungal Folly. You must first help each one fend off the enemies before speaking with them to accept their challenge.

Researchers Bill and Patro, located in different parts of the area, offer relatively simple challenges — you just need to defeat them in combat. They have less health than rare enemies, and their mechanics are straightforward and should not pose any problems for even the most casual players. A few examples of them include the following:

  • Avoid the puddle
  • Do not stand in the cone
  • Move away from the whirlwind

The third explorer from the League has climbed high up on a cliff, which offers a particular challenge. He summons an ocean, from which you need to catch 3 Mushroom Fish within a short time using Fishing.

A Mage-Sethrak from Vol'dun named Kashtrik is battling a massive horde of plants, mushrooms, and animals using many of his mirror images. After helping him, he offers a mini-game: he will stand in the center and summon 5 of his mirror images. Each image will cast a specific spell every 2 seconds, for a total of 4 spells. This spell may repeat between Kashtrik and the other images, but you need to find the reflection that casts the same spell as Kashtrik all 4 times and then destroy that reflection.

The final explorer to mention in our Fungal Folly walkthrough asks you to draw several runes on the ground within a set time limit. The runes are traced using a stencil by moving the character. Once a rune is fully drawn before the time runs out, the challenge is considered complete.

After you complete all five challenges, you will encounter the final boss, Spinshroom. Defeating him means you have successfully finished the Fungal Folly Delve.

Lost Miners

The Lost Miners Delve variant stars with Brann and Stoneguard Benston talking. From this dialog, you find out that Mushroom Guards have kidnapped the entire group of the Earthen. You need to rescue 10 Scouts to complete the activity.

There are no other tasks you need to complete along the way. Just follow the specified route and beat all the enemies you see. As you progress through the zone, you will save one Scout after another. Closer to the end, you will encounter Spinshroom once again. The final boss features the same abilities and mechanics to play around, nothing surprising here.

Spreading Decay

This time, we get to interact with the mages of the Kirin Tor, specifically with Archmage Letnal. After rescuing him, he tells us to find a dispersion crystal, which we can use to dissipate the rot spreading from the Rotting Mushrooms.

Once you start the dispersion process, deadly pools will spill from the mushroom. You need to stay within the radius and keep the crystal active while avoiding the pools as they appear. Next, you will have to defeat Spinshroom just like you did in other variants of the Fungal Folly The War Within activity.

Fungal Folly Tiers

You can progress through 11 Fungal Folly tiers in total. To complete higher tiers, you need to meet ilvl gear requirements. Finishing them grants you access to better rewards, yet it is more difficult. To make your progression easier, remember to level up your Companion to unlock new abilities for them in the future.

Tier Recommended Gear Level
1 No special requirements
2 No special requirements
3 ilvl 538+
4 ilvl 545+
5 ilvl 554+
6 ilvl 561+
7 ilvl 574+
8 ilvl 589+
9 ilvl 600+
10 ilvl 614+
11 TBA

The developers have stated that completing tier 8 will earn you the best rewards. However, if you manage to finish tiers 9 to 11, you will only unlock specific achievements. BLOG20

Fungal Folly Rewards

Depending on the chosen tier, Fungal Folly rewards will look different. It is difficult to predict what they exactly are. We only know about a few possible treasures that you can discover before leaving the completed Delve. Here is a list of possible Fungal Folly loot you can get:

  • Gold
  • Cosmetics
  • Resplendent Keys
  • Other currencies

Those who aim to get gear of higher ilvl and other precious rewards would be especially interested in Resplendent Keys. They are used to open Resplendent Chests, containing gear comparable to what you get from Heroic Raids and M+5 keys. Currently, the highest ilvl of gear you can get from Delves is 616. This number will gradually increase as we move from one season of The War Within to another.

Fungal Folly Achievements

Just like in other Delves, there is a list of Fungal Folly achievements you can get:

Completing the first achievement is crucial if you wish to progress through the main Delve achievement. It is called Delve Loremaster: War Within and required for Glory of the Delver. You will obtain the Ivory Goliathus mount upon completing this meta-achievement.

Conclusion

As we are finishing our WoW Fungal Folly guide, we hope you are ready for a fight with deadly mushrooms. All three variants of this Delve look exciting and promise great rewards, as well as unique achievements. If we find out more details on how to complete Fungal Folly, we will update this article shortly after. This is it for now, heroes, and we will see you in the game!
