The Best Way to Gear up in The War Within

Running Mythic+ Dungeons and slaying Raid Bosses is the best way to gear up in WoW The War Within. These activities offer a ton of higher-level content to earn gear from. You can start from the very basics, like Normal Dungeons or LFR Raids, and progress to the very top of this system. At the peak point, you will complete M+ 12 Keystones and Mythic Raids to earn the best loot possible.

We will describe these two methods in more detail further in our guide. You will also learn about other gear sources you can use in The War Within. Combining as many of them as possible will help you earn the rarest and strongest equipment pieces for your WoW character.

Campaign Completion

The gear progression system in WoW is refined from top to bottom. The developers have thought through every step of how you can obtain gear in the game. During the early game, your best way to get gear in The War Within is to complete the Campaign. This will help you prepare for Mythic+ Dungeons and Raids in the future.

Starting with the Campaign is the first step you should take when entering the latest TWW expansion. You will be tasked to finish a range of quests. Raid Gear

World Quest Gear

Completing World Quests can be a transitional stage of gearing up in The War Within Season 2. The equipment you get from World Quests can hardly be called BiS, but you can use it before you get better analogs from Raids or M+. Not all of them grant gear as a reward. Profession Gear

Wearing profession gear can be beneficial due to the variety of Embellishments you can apply to it. With the start of WoW The War Within Season 2, things have remained the same. You can still use crafted gear before you get a better alternative from higher-end content like Raids or M+ Keys. You can further customize your crafted gear with these Embellishments:

3. Blessed Weapon Grip
4. Earthen Master's Arsenal
5. Elemental Focusing Lens
6. Writhing Armor Banding

Acquiring profession gear is the answer for those who wonder, “How to gear up fast in The War Within?” since it is super easy to get. It requires no grinding, and you can get it guaranteed. Just keep in mind that the prices for it might be much higher at the early stage of the expansion.

Reputation Gear

Similarly to the previous season, we have received a new faction in The War Within Season 2. You can level up your reputation with it and get exclusive rewards, including gear. While this method cannot replace the main TWW gearing sources, it can be used as a sideway in some cases. This time, we're dealing with Cartels of Undermine Renown, and they do not have much loot to grab. So, you can basically skip the reputation method when it comes to gearing this season. Here are a few items you can obtain so far:

• Renown 7 grants 623 ilvl Boots for each armor class
• Renown 14 grants 636 ilvl Gloves for each armor class

This is basically everything apart from specific cosmetics available at other Renown levels. For example, you can get Undermine Enforcer's Padding Tabard at Renown 10. The same goes for cosmetic Shoulders at Renown 17. However, you're not that interested in cosmetics while gearing up for higher-level content for sure.

PvP Gear

If you are a fan of fighting other players rather than mobs, consider getting PvP gear as well. This type of equipment grants a variety of bonuses when battling others with the War Mode turned on. You can also use this gear when competing in Arenas, RBGs, and other PvP activities.

With the start of The War Within, things have not changed much when it comes to buying this gear. You still need to visit dedicated vendors to acquire the items for special PvP currency. Here is what we know about PvP gear ilvl so far:

To buy the items you need, visit these PvP vendors in Dornogal:

Honor Gear

Your PvP gear progression starts with purchasing Honor gear. You need to have enough Honor currency to acquire the desired item belonging to this category. Remember that the ilvl of Honor gear is lower in PvE (597) and higher in PvP (665). We only recommend using it for fighting other players to get the maximum bonuses possible.

Conquest Gear

Conquest gear is the next step in your PvP gearing journey in WoW The War Within. It is more powerful compared to the Honor analog and is upgradable up to 9 times. You can purchase this type of gear from Lalandi. Similarly to the Honor equipment, it will have a lower ilvl in PvE (636) and higher in PvP (678). To get the maximum value out of it, make sure to wear it only for fighting other players.

War Mode gear is the peak point you need to strive to achieve in terms of PvP gear in The War Within. The Great Vault

The Great Vault in WoW is one of the best ways to gear up efficiently while playing the content you enjoy. Every week, it offers you a selection of powerful items based on your recent activity, letting you choose one piece to claim. The more you play, the more options you unlock, making it a fantastic system for improving your character.

There are three categories in the Great Vault – Raids, Dungeons, and World activities. Each gives you up to three gear choices per week:

• Raids – Unlock extra loot by defeating 2, 4, or 6 raid bosses.
• Dungeons – Earn choices by completing 1, 4, or 8 Mythic+ dungeons.
• World – Get rewards by finishing 2, 4, or 8 Delves or World activities.

A major perk of the Great Vault is that it can reward higher item-level gear than what usually drops from these activities. For example, while the best Delve loot caps at 639 (Champion rank), the Vault can offer up to 649 (Hero rank). The difficulty level of the activities you complete determines the item level of the gear you’ll see in the Vault, meaning the more complex the content, the better the rewards.

Another big win? You can even get Tier Set gear from the Vault, which is a huge advantage when building out your best setup. If you want the most flexibility in gearing, filling up as many Vault slots as possible each week is the way to go.

Cyrce’s Circlet Ring

If you’re looking for an easy-to-get yet powerful ring in WoW Season 2, Cyrce’s Circlet from the Siren Isle campaign (added back in patch 11.0.7) is an excellent pick. This ring starts at ilvl 639 but can be upgraded to 658, making it a solid option for gearing up quickly. It can be great for pushing Mythic+ dungeons, raiding, or just boosting your overall stats. Cyrce’s Circlet provides a reliable way to enhance your build without excessive grinding. It will stay powerful throughout the entire TWW Season 2, or at least half of it. Make sure to get it!

Weekly Cache Rewards

Note: Our team is still working on updating this part of the guide since new World Events are coming in Patch 11.1. Make sure to check out this section a bit later!

Completing a range of activities to earn a Weekly Cache can reward gear as well. You are mainly interested in acquiring the Veteran gear type that drops from this cache. To get it, you need to complete a range of activities, such as Earthen Theater, Awakening The Machine, Worldsoul: Spreading the Light, Azj-Kahet Pacts, Special Assignment World Quests, and major weekly quests in the capital city.

Our biggest advice here is not to save Weekly Caches for later. The loot you get from them is fixed for the moment you earn them, and it will not become better a few levels later. Instead, you want to open it immediately to get a small boost to your progression through The War Within.

Opening Weekly Caches can also reward you with 100 Coffer Key Shard each. You can use it to craft a Restored Coffer Key used for Bountiful Delves later on.
