Destiny 2 Pale Heart Destination Overview

Guardians are finally taking the fight to the Witness, who, by the start of the events of the Final Shape, has corrupted the Traveller. So, Vanguard and other Guardians, including us, are going on a, by all means, the final and most important mission – to find and defeat the Witness. Never before have Guardians had a chance to enter the Traveler itself. The Traveler still remains a mostly mysterious figure in the world of Destiny with no clear objectives or intentions to this day.

The Pale Heart is the name of the new Destination in Destiny 2, located in the Traveler itself. It is not just the “inside of the Traveler” but, in fact, a corrupted version of it. The Witness has spread its influence, twisting and altering everything the Traveler has in it. But what does it all mean?

Well, the Traveler is believed to be sentient, and the Pale Heart is comprised of memory-like locations important to the Traveler and you in one way or another. Simply imagine the most memorable locations in Destiny turned into a nightmare. A twisted and sinister spin on familiar places like the Cosmodrome’s highway, where we started our journey both in Destiny 1 and 2. Naturally, a place like this will host a decent amount of unique encounters and hidden treasures. Pale Heart secrets are located in each zone, and finding them is going to take some effort, but they are well worth the trouble.

From the gameplay standpoint, Pale Heart offers completely new experiences. Here, you will face the Destiny 2 Dread faction, a new brand of enemies, the true servants of the Witness. Some of them, namely the Tormetors, have already been seen in Lightfall, but the Traveler is literally overrun with other kinds of Dread enemies.

Destiny 2 Pale Heart Size and Structure

Pale Heart is not a public destination, which is a first. You can access it solo or with a pre-made party, but you will not see other players roaming around. BLOG20

This destination is not small. Despite having one spawn point, there are three explorable and interconnected Pale Heart locations or zones:

  1. The Blooming
  2. The Landing
  3. The Impasse

The only available spawn point is located in the Blooming, which seems to be the biggest zone of the Pale Heart.

Destiny 2 Pale Heart Activities

Pale Heart features a familiar bundle of activities mixed with some completely new things. The destination has 3 Pale Heart Lost Sectors tucked within the darkest corners of the map. There are various puzzles, such as the one where you need to obtain Psionic Insight, which you get by killing Taken Psions. The Psionic Insight is a timed buff that lets you interact with the device, leading you to solve a puzzle and receive a reward.

Pale Heart motivates you to explore, which is why it is filled to the brim with such puzzles. But besides those, you will come across the golden chests, which can be opened by completing a process called “Stitching.” Each of these Pale Heart chests has a unique objective that you need to complete to open it. It may be a timed race where you need to run between spots of light placed in various places on the ground.

Pale Heart Collectibles

Once the objective is complete, you’ll be rewarded with loot, among which could be a cryptic consumable called Destiny 2 Memory Vestiges. These vestiges will lead you to more hidden secrets. Another possible drop is an item called Luminescent Seed.

These seeds play a crucial role in progressing through various missions and challenges in the expansion. Collecting these seeds is vital for advancing in the storyline and accessing certain areas and rewards within the expansion, which include but are not limited to Pale Heart Engrams that contain new armor sets, legendary and exotic weapons.

On top of that, you’ll be able to find all sorts of collectible items, among which are feathers scattered and placed in hard-to-reach places. Collecting these feathers is actually part of a seasonal challenge called “Birds of a Feather.”

Pale Heart Pathfinder – How To Use

We’ve already described the new progression system called Pathfinder that replaces all vendor bounties and other repeatable missions, creating one system that offers you a curated number of objectives that you can choose to complete to reach the Pale Heart Rewards.

Long story short, the goal of Pathfinder is to form a path of connected objectives from left to right and claim the engram reward. Any Pathfinder objective can be progressed at any time but may only be claimed when connected by a path.

Pale Heart has its own Pathfinder that gives you objectives specific to this destination. They are all procedurally generated, so every player will have their own bounties to do. Examples include:

Pathfinder Node Node Type Objective
Unstable Parkour Field Assignment In the Pale Heart, travel to the Blooming and complete the Stitching event.
Natural Skirmish Field Assignment In the Pale Heart, travel to the Seclusion and claim a reward for defeating Vrhaask, Subjugator of Solace.
Natural Clash Field Assignment In the Pale Heart, travel to the Seclusion and claim a reward for defeating Keraidos, Grasp of the Witness.
Landed Overthrow Venture In the Pale Heart, progress through Overthrow levels 2 and 3 and loot the chests. Overthrowing the Landing grants additional progress.
Overgrowth Skirmish Field Assignment In the Pale Heart, travel to the Landing and claim a reward for defeating Ei Rakosh, Banisher of Memory
Novelties of Light Calibration

In the Pale Heart, defeat combatants using the following supers:

  • Hunter Storm’s Edge
  • Titan Twilight Arsenal
  • Warlock Song of Flame

Completing these nodes leads to the Pathfinder reward, which will include a random selection of Pale Heart exotic weapons, some currency, and other stuff. For more details, please check out our Pathfinder article.

The Pale Heart Pathfinder is accessible from the destination’s map. This system also helps you rank the destination vendors. That’s right, there are actually two vendors on Pale Heart, one of them being Ghost and the other Cayde-6 himself. BLOG20

Destiny 2 Pale Heart Overthrow Guide

Overthrow is the new kind of Pale Heart patrol that is available exclusively at this destination. Different zones have their own version of Overthrow.

This activity has four stages. The first three stages will see you engage in combat mixed with light puzzle solving. The fourth stage is a boss fight with one of three bosses based on the zone you're in.

  • Stage 1: Defeat enemies to gain points.
  • Stage 2: Defeat high-value targets to gain more points.
  • Stage 3: Complete random objectives including puzzles and other mini-missions.
  • Stage 4: The final boss fight.

The progress in Overthrow can be obtained by opening the golden chests mentioned before, which is a nice little detail added by the developers in case you need a break from action.

The objectives, enemies, and rewards will be different for each zone’s Overthrow and will change over time. What we described above is just one possible variation. Here are all known Overthrow boss encounters in different zones:

The Impasse

  • Thuna, Subjugator of Chasms
  • Rhaska, Subjugator of Thresholds
  • Araaxen, Reverent of the Witness

The Landing

  • Ir Okmarr, Devoted to Savathun
  • Nolakh, Star-Eater
  • Mharuk, Sky-Stealer

The Blooming

  • Voxelos, Taken by the Witness
  • Kholon, Taken by the Witness
  • Koftiks, Taken by the Witness

Completing the Overthrow activity not only yields multiple rewards but also increases the reputation with Pale Heart Vendors. The reputation works more or less the same way as it does with all the other vendors in the sense that ranking up the reputation rewards you with even more thematic rewards.

Conclusion

Pale Heart is an exciting new destination in Destiny 2. Not only does it surprise us with its bizarre looks that are both nostalgic and eerie, but it actually features a healthy dose of completely new activities that are far more compex and engaging compared to usual destination activities.

When coupled with the new Pathfinder system and the Pale Heart campaign, this destination definitely leaves its mark as one of the most fun open-world locations in the game. As the story continues after the end of the Final Shape, it is entirely possible that Pale Heart will change some of its features, which has been more or less confirmed by the developers themselves. Will Guardians be able to cleanse the heart of the Traveler from the Witness’ influence, or will it remain twisted forever? We’ll know soon enough!
