Tips and Tricks for Completing Weekly Challenges in Destiny 2

If you’re just getting into the game, which is totally fine, you might be asking yourself - how to unlock weekly challenges Destiny 2? Well, you don’t actually unlock them. They’re just there in the game, waiting for you to complete them. Completing weekly challenges might feel like a boring chore, and in some way, it is exactly what it feels like. But you can’t ignore the amount of EXP each challenge gives you, let alone the promise to get some free Bright Dust. So, to make it a bit easier and bearable doing these challenges, here’s a step-by-step explanation of how to approach these challenges and efficiently complete them:

1. Understand Where to Find Weekly Challenges

If you don’t know where to find weekly challenges Destiny 2, you should explore more of the game’s menus and screens.

Weekly challenges are primarily located in two places: your Quest tab and the Seasonal Challenges menu in the Director. To access these, open your map, navigate to the Quests or Seasonal Challenges tab, and you’ll see a list of the available tasks for the current week. They are usually marked with a yellow banner and an icon, making them easy to identify.

2. Identify the Type of Weekly Challenges

Weekly challenges vary widely, but they typically include objectives like:

PvE Activities: These often ask you to complete certain numbers of strikes, Nightfalls, or patrols. For example, you may have to run Nightfall: The Ordeal on higher difficulties or farm Lost Sectors for specific rewards.
PvP Challenges: Involve playing a set number of Crucible matches or completing tasks within the Crucible, such as earning headshots or using particular weapon types.
Seasonal Story Progression: Many challenges are tied to the current season’s narrative. This might involve completing specific missions, such as weekly story quests or seasonal (episode-exclusive) activities like the Season of the Witch’s Altars of Summoning or Season of Defiance’s Battlegrounds.

3. Prioritize Challenges Based on Your Play Style

It’s essential to prioritize the challenges that match your play style. If you prefer PvE, focus on those that ask you to run Vanguard strikes, dungeons, or seasonal activities. If you’re more into PvP, spend time completing Crucible or Gambit objectives. You don’t have to complete every challenge, so focusing on what you enjoy most is a great starting point.

4. Group Similar Challenges Together

A helpful tip is to stack challenges that can be completed simultaneously. For example, if one challenge asks you to complete Nightfall strikes and another requires precision kills with scout rifles, bring a scout rifle into your Nightfall runs. That way, you’re progressing on both challenges at once. This strategy can save time and make the process much smoother.

5. Utilize Fireteams for Efficiency

Many weekly challenges require specific completions that are much easier (and faster) with a team. For instance, running high-level Nightfalls or completing Raids as part of your weekly milestones is easier when you have a constant group of dudes to run them with. You can use the in-game LFG system to find other randoms to do them with, or you can use Skycoach’s service and hire real pros!

6. Take Advantage of Bounties

Weekly challenges often pair well with bounties from vendors like Zavala, Shaxx, or Drifter. By picking up daily or weekly bounties, you can complete them simultaneously and gain bonus experience points, enhancing your seasonal progression. This layering of objectives can help optimize your time and rewards.

7. Don’t Forget Seasonal Mods and Loadouts

Sometimes, certain weekly challenges will be easier to complete if you tailor your loadout to match the requirements. For instance, if a challenge requires Void ability kills, use weapons and mods that increase Void damage or generate additional ability energy. The right mods can make challenges go by much faster, especially if the objective is kill-related.

8. Know the Reset Schedule

Weekly challenges reset every Tuesday at 10 AM PST. If you’re planning to play regularly, it would be a good idea to mark Tuesday as the reset day in your calendar, as this when everything gets refreshed in the game, challenges included.

9. Keep an Eye on Time-Limited Challenges

Some challenges are only available for a short time or are tied to a specific seasonal event (like Festival of the Lost or Guardian Games). These have unique requirements and offer special rewards. If you see time-limited challenges, prioritize them to ensure you don’t miss out.

10. Reward Structure and Benefits

Completing weekly challenges offers more than just experience. Many challenges grant Bright Dust, seasonal weapons, or progress on the season pass. It doesn’t get any more straightforward than this.

So now you know how the seasonal challenges work as a system a little better. This should help you approach completing them more efficiently and, potentially, even have fun doing it.

Conclusion

Weekly challenges mean different things to different Destiny players. To some, they’re the last remaining reason to log in and play the game. To others, it is a ridiculous grind fest the developers force players to go through so that player retention doesn’t dwindle. So, which is it, and why should you do them?

Beyond just providing experience points and gear, completing weekly challenges is essential for seasonal progression, helping unlock story beats, seasonal gear, and catalysts that power up your Guardian throughout the episode.

Because these challenges reset weekly, they create a rhythm for players, encouraging them to log in consistently to stay on top of their goals. This system helps maintain player engagement, providing a steady source of rewards that scale with their power level, ultimately shaping the flow of each season. Whether you're a casual player or a dedicated Guardian, completing weekly challenges is one of the most effective ways to keep your character progressing and ensure you’re ready for endgame content.

We’ll keep updating this article by adding challenges for each week of the ongoing Episode, so stay tuned!
