Diablo 4 Classes Explained
There will be five different classes in Diablo 4, most of which are new iterations of the iconic classes from previous Diablo games. This does not seem like much, however the variety of builds and abilities which is available for Diablo 4 players offers many hours of exciting gameplay even for the most experienced Diablo fans. Barbarian
The Barbarian is a class that is returning from previous Diablo games. They are a powerful melee class that can unleash a devastating amount of physical damage (more than any other class in the game). The core mechanic of this class is called the Arsenal System and allows you to equip and swap during combat up to four weapons which gives plenty of room for customization. You will have access to the following types of weapons in your Arsenal:
- Main hand weapon;
- Off-hand weapon;
- Slashing weapon;
- Blunt weapon.
This system allows you to assign certain weapons to match your skill loadout and specific needs. For example, blunt weapons will best suit your Bash. Also, you will automatically equip the best suited weapon when using a skill.

Sorceress
The Sorceress is another class that is returning from previous Diablo games. They are a powerful spellcaster class that can use elemental magic to destroy their enemies and significantly reduce their movement. Just like back in the days, now in Diablo 4 Sorcerers are kind of glass cannons with extremely high damage and comparably low defensive capabilities, so you should alter your playstyle accordingly. Playing this class you will have access to three types of elemental magic:
- Fire - These spells will inflict a damage-over-time effect on your enemies, but they are not as effective in crowd-controlling the battlefield. However, the damage can compensate for that.
- Frost - Aside from dealing very good damage, almost all Frost spells can either slow or completely freeze your opponents, which makes them especially useful against bosses.
- Lightning - This magic is a middle ground with a good balance of damage and control. Sometimes Lightning spells can also help you regen mana.
The unique mechanic of this class is called Enchantment System, which can change how your skills work. You will have a range of active spells with each of them having Enchantment slots. If you place a skill in an Enchantment slot it can no longer be activated. Instead, it will provide a static bonus to the skill the Enchantment slot is related to. There are plenty of possible variations here, so you will need to get creative with the Enchantment System in order to compensate for your class’ weaknesses and better realize its potential.

Rogue
Rogues are deadly silent assassins, who use all kinds of wicked tricks to take down even the most powerful enemies. Rogues are furious fighters who can move around the battlefield incredibly quickly allowing themselves to either take an advantageous position or quickly retreat if the situation requires.
This class is extremely versatile as it can switch between different types of melee and ranged weapons very quickly, use a range of additional effects like poison and cold, while also having access to a lot of various abilities. All this makes this class a mix of Diablo 2 Amazon and Diablo 3 Demon Hunter.
Just like all other classes in the game, Rogue has its own unique mechanic called Talent Specialization. This system allows you to choose between different specializations, which will become available to you as you level up. Namely:
- Combo Points - Much like in World of Warcraft, you can accumulate Combo Points by using regular Rogue abilities and then consume them on abilities with special effects;
- Inner Sight - Allows you to gain unlimited Energy by attacking marked enemies. This mechanic has proven to be very effective against bosses;
- Preparation - Sadly, there is not enough information about this aspect of Diablo 4 gameplay.
There is still not enough information about the Rogue’s Talent Specialization system, so, for example, we do not know whether you can activate those specializations simultaneously or not. But we will surely update this section when more information becomes available.
The recommended stat priority for Diablo 4 Rogue is as follows:

Druid
Druids are furious primal warriors, capable of changing forms by turning themselves into a werebear or werewolf. Also, this class is also capable of using Storm and Earth magic to crush their enemies. Moreover, Druids can also summon animal companions with a range of unique abilities. Down below, you can find information concerning the class's unique mechanic.
To access the four Spirit Animals, you must embark on a journey to the homeland of Druids, Scosglen. It is likely to happen around level 15 after finishing Act 1. Completing a class-specific quest frees Spirit Animals. They are Snake, Hawk, Deer, and Wolf. Each of them will request 100 Spirit Offerings to grant their passive bonuses or so-called boons. As we currently guess, these offerings can be obtained after killing mobs in Scosglen.
After giving the Spirit Animal 100 Spirit Offerings, they grant the player at least one of their four boons. You can then unlock the remaining boons at specific level intervals. Only one boon from a Spirit Animal can be chosen at a time, unless all four Spirit Animals have been unlocked.
Once all four Spirit Animals are unlocked, players can select two boons from one Spirit Animal and one boon from each of the other three. After doing so, you will have five boons in total.

Necromancer
Necromancers are powerful summoners who use the powers of Death and Blood to raise an army of undead, steal enemies’ life, and unleash devastating magic blows. Anyone who has played Necromancer in Diablo 3 will notice that in Diablo 4 Necromancer uses the same Essense resource to use his most potent abilities. Also do not forget about perhaps the meat important resource for a Necromancer, which is corpses of your fallen enemies. They can be used to raise skeletons, construct powerful golems, or use the good old corpse explosion.
In Diablo 4 Necromancers can specialize in four aspects of their grim art:
- Bone - These spells mostly deal significant physical damage and consume your Essence;
- Darkness - These abilities are all about dealing damage over time and torturing those foolish enough to stand in your way.
- Blood - Your Blood spells will turn you into a bloodthirsty vampire and help you steal life from your enemies to restore your own health.
- Army - As the name implies, these spells will help you summon various undead creatures to fight on your side.
The Necromancer's unique class mechanic is called the Book of the Dead and it allows you to customize your minions to grant them various bonuses. For example, you can turn your Skeleton Warriors into Skirmishers, decreasing their HP but increasing their damage. There are plenty of possible variants for every minion under your command. You can even sacrifice some of your minions to get a permanent buff.

Conclusion
In our humble opinion, Diablo 4 is shaping up to be a massive leap forward for the series. The developers have clearly put in a tremendous amount of effort to make this game a truly exceptional experience. And, which is perhaps even more appealing, they certainly did take the Diablo community’s opinion into consideration. From what we've seen so far, the graphics, style, and sound have become way more oppressive, harsh, and even dire, which is perfectly suitable for the dark fantasy franchise Diablo once was.
However, the developers also use some great elements of game design and gameplay mechanics from Diablo 3 and Diablo Immortal (note that we are not talking about the monetization system, but about the gameplay itself).
