But Clash of Clans added a lot of gameplay and interaction to make it so that clans are something that all players can benefit from. Clans have capitals, ranks, and roles within them, special perks, and much more.

Introduction to Clans

The clans in CoC can consist of up to 50 members who gain the ability to share troops and partake in unique activities and events. Being in a clan connects you with other players through private clan chat, where you can coordinate strategies, share replays, and shittalk about your competition. It also opens the door to competitive features such as:

• Clan Wars – duke it out with other clans for loot and XP. Declare a war, set the date and get to it.
• Clan War Leagues – an event where you and your mates compete in a 7-day league format for medals and promotion.
• Clan Capital Raids – Raid enemy clan capitals and upgrade your own.
• Clan Games – Complete challenges to earn rewards and contribute to your clan’s point total.

These activities allow your clan to earn Clan XP, which increases clan levels and unlocks valuable perks, including:

1. Faster donation request cooldowns.
2. Troop and spell level boosts on donation.
3. Partial resource refunds for donated troops or spells.
4. Increased treasury storage capacity.
5. Bonus war loot for victories.

How to Join or Create a Clan

If you don’t know how to join a clan in Clash of Clans, it's actually pretty easy and can be done at the start of the game. Joining or creating a clan in Clash of Clans requires you to first repair your Clan Castle, which starts in a ruined state when you begin the game. Repairing it costs 10,000 Elixir and unlocks the ability to access the clan system. Once repaired, you can either search for an existing clan to join or create your own.

You can find the clan that suits you very easily; there are lots of search options. Plus, there is a subreddit dedicated to clan recruitment. You can join clans in several ways:

• Open Join – If a clan is set to Anyone Can Join, simply tap the “Join” button on its profile, provided you meet any trophy or Town Hall requirements.
• Invite Only – Send a request to join and wait for an Elder, Co-Leader, or Leader to accept. If rejected, you must wait 6–8 hours before reapplying to the same clan.
• Direct Invitation – Accept an invite from an Elder or higher, even if you don’t meet the requirements.
• Clan Notice Board – Join directly from a posted clan notice if the clan has available space.
• Search Filters – Use the in-game search under the Clans tab to filter by type, location, war frequency, and minimum trophies.

If you want, you can also create your own clan. But let’s get this out of the way right now – being the only member in a clan doesn’t pay off.

Creating a Clan

If you want to know how to create a clan in Clash of Clans to lead your own group, you can do so from the “Create Clan” interface. To get there, tap the Clan button on your Clan Castle. This will open the creation menu, where you can set your clan’s name, badge, rules, and requirements before paying the gold to make it official. Starting your own clan gives you full control over its style, member selection, and activity level, so you can build the exact community you want.

• Choose a name (2–15 characters; cannot be changed later).
• Select a clan badge from preset patterns and colors.
• Write an optional description (up to 250 characters) to explain your clan’s focus.
• Set the clan type (Anyone Can Join, Invite Only, or Closed).
• Define war frequency (Always, Twice a Week, Once a Week, Rarely, or Never).
• Set minimum trophies for Home Village and Builder Base (0–5,500 each).
• Set minimum Town Hall level (1–15).

• Select an optional location and chat language.
• Enable or disable public war logs and Friendly Wars.
• Choose up to three clan labels (e.g., War, Farming, Competitive).
• Pay 40,000 Gold to finalize creation.

Except for the name, all settings can be changed later by the Leader or Co-Leaders.

Creating a clan, on the other hand, gives you full control over rules, recruitment, and clan culture. It requires more effort to attract active members and unlock perks, but it allows you to shape the group’s direction from the very beginning.

Clan Leveling & Progression

Clash of Clans clan leveling unlocks valuable perks and boosts that every member can benefit from. Your clan gains experience points (Clan XP) by participating in key activities, and higher levels provide stronger bonuses for all members.

How to Level Up Your Clan

Clan XP is gained through three main activities:

• Clan Wars – Earn XP for each star scored on previously unbeaten enemy bases, with additional bonuses for reaching 40% and 60% of the possible stars. Winning a war grants a large flat XP bonus.
• Clan Games – Completing reward tiers during Clan Games adds Clan XP to your total. The more tiers your clan unlocks, the more XP you earn.
• Raid Weekends – Participating in Clan Capital raids awards XP based on your clan’s performance across the weekend.

Leveling up your clan can be time-sensitive, because a lot the bonuses depend on the date and time.

XP Requirements

Each clan level requires more XP than the last. Here’s an example of the early progression:

Higher-level clans unlock stronger Clash of Clans clan perks, such as shorter troop donation cooldowns, higher troop level boosts, bigger donation refunds, and larger treasury storage. Clan Capital

The Clash of Clans Clan Capital is a shared base that represents your clan’s combined strength and progress. Every member can contribute resources, help upgrade buildings, and take part in attacks during special raid events. The clan profile displays your Capital Hall level along with its upgrades, giving other players a clear idea of how advanced your clan’s capital is.

How It Works

Each clan has multiple districts within its Clan Capital. These districts contain defensive structures, traps, and buildings that can be upgraded using Capital Gold. Capital Gold is earned by donating resources during upgrade projects or by participating in Raid Weekends. By taking part in raids, members can earn Raid Medals, which can be exchanged for resources, special items, or even troop donations in the Home Village.

Capital Hall

The Capital Hall is the central building of the Clan Capital, similar to the Town Hall in the Home Village. Upgrading it unlocks new districts, additional defenses, and more structures for existing districts. Higher Capital Hall levels also increase your clan’s potential in Raid Weekends and allow for more advanced layouts. This makes Capital Hall upgrades a top priority, as they directly affect your clan’s strength and long-term progression.

Raid Weekends

Once a week, clans participate in Raid Weekends, attacking the Clan Capitals of other clans. Multiple members can work together to destroy enemy districts, with each player contributing a set number of attacks. The more districts your clan destroys, the more Capital Gold and Raid Medals you earn. The clan’s performance also affects league placement, with higher leagues offering greater rewards.

Upgrading the Clan Capital

Upgrades are a team effort. Any member can donate Capital Gold toward buildings, defenses, or walls in the capital districts. These upgrades strengthen the capital’s defenses for upcoming raid weekends and help push your clan toward higher leagues. Coordination between members ensures resources are invested in the most beneficial upgrades first.

By regularly contributing and participating in Raid Weekends, clans can rapidly develop their Clan Capital, improve their league standing, and earn more rewards for all members.

Clan Ranks and Roles

Clans in Clash of Clans use a four-rank system, with each rank granting specific responsibilities and administrative powers. Understanding these roles is essential for keeping the clan organized and preventing misuse of permissions. Here’s the list of Clash of Clans clan ranks:

1. Leader
   The leader holds the highest position in the clan, with complete control over every setting and activity. They can invite and remove any member, promote and demote at all ranks, edit clan information, send messages to all members, start wars, transfer leadership, edit Clan Capital layouts, start raid weekends, and pin important messages in chat. Only one leader can exist at a time, although they can promote someone else to take their place.
2. Co-Leader
   Appointed by the leader, co-leaders have almost all the same powers except transferring leadership. They can invite new members, remove elders or members, promote and demote those below them, edit clan information, send messages, start wars, edit Clan Capital layouts, initiate raid weekends, and pin chat messages. The role requires a high level of trust, as poor judgment or abuse of powers can damage the clan.
3. Elder
   Elders are respected and trusted members who assist with day-to-day clan operations. They can invite new members, remove members (but only those at the member rank and with a 20-minute cooldown between kicks), and start raid weekends. They cannot promote or demote players, change clan settings, or start wars.
4. Member
   This is the default rank for new players in the clan. Members can participate fully in events, wars, and donations but have no administrative powers. Even if you rejoin a clan where you previously held a higher rank, you will return as a member unless promoted again.

Leaders and co-leaders manage promotions and demotions, meaning members can be promoted by others for their performance or just for fun. Members can also be kicked out for various reasons, so the best way to keep your place is by following the established ruleset.

If there’s a situation where the clan leader has quit and doesn’t appear in the game for two months, the leadership position will be automatically transferred to the next in rank. This is a fair system that doesn’t require any voting or time-wasting.

Clan Donations

Clash of Clans clan donations are a core part of clan interaction in the game. They allow members to share troops, spells, and siege machines with one another, strengthening both offensive and defensive capabilities. Donation requests appear in the clan chat, where other members can tap the “Donate” button to send the requested units. Here’s what you can donate:

• Any permanent troops, spells, or siege machines you’ve unlocked.
• Super Troops, provided you meet the level requirement for their base unit.

Temporary units from seasonal events, such as the Giant Skeleton, cannot be donated. You also can’t donate troops currently inside your own Clan Castle.

Donation Limits and Perks

The number of units you can donate depends on your clan’s level:

1. Troops start at a limit of 6 per donation and can increase up to 50.
2. Spells start at 1 per donation, increasing to 3.
3. Siege machines start at 1 per donation, increasing to 2.

Higher clan levels unlock perks that make donating faster and more efficient, such as shorter cooldown times between requests, troop level boosts, and partial refunds of the resource cost for donations.

Donation Costs

The resource cost depends on the type and housing space of the unit:

• Troops: Every 2 housing space (or part thereof) costs 3,000 Elixir, 45 Dark Elixir, or 1 Gem.
• Spells: Every housing space costs 9,000 Elixir, 135 Dark Elixir, or 3 Gems.
• Siege Machines: 45,000 Elixir or 15 Gems each.

Players with the Gold Pass can activate the 1-Gem Donation perk, and special events sometimes reduce all Gem donation costs to 1 for everyone.

Level Restrictions

The level of donated troops and spells is capped by the receiver’s Clan Castle level, which corresponds to a maximum Laboratory level. This ensures that lower-level players can’t receive units far beyond their upgrade range—though clan perks can temporarily boost donated troop levels. Siege Machines have their own level caps, tied to the Clan Castle level as well.

Donations not only help your clanmates perform better in wars, farming, and challenges, but also build trust and cooperation within the clan. Regularly contributing to requests is one of the best ways to strengthen your standing and reputation in the group.

 

Clan Perks

Clan perks are special bonuses unlocked as your clan gains levels. They provide practical benefits that improve donation efficiency, increase resource gains, and enhance your overall clan experience. Perks are unlocked automatically when a clan reaches certain levels, and their effects apply to all members.

Clan perks are tied to the clan’s experience level. As mentioned before Clash of Clans clan XP is earned by:

1. Winning Clan Wars and earning stars during battles.
2. Achieving reward tiers in Clan Games.
3. Completing Raid Weekends in the Clan Capital.

As the clan gains XP, its level increases, unlocking new perks. Perks include:

• Donation Request Cooldown Reduction – Reduces the standard 20-minute wait between troop requests down to 15 or even 10 minutes at higher levels.
• Donation Level Boost – Increases the level of donated troops or spells by 1 or 2 levels beyond what the donor can train, within the receiver’s level cap.
• Donation Refund – Returns 20%, 35%, or 50% of the resource cost for donations, depending on clan level.
• Increased Treasury Storage – Expands the treasury capacity in your Clan Castle by up to 50%, allowing you to store more loot from wars, CWL, and events.
• Bonus War Loot – Grants an additional 10%, 15%, 20%, or 25% war loot bonus when your clan wins.

These bonuses make an active clan far more efficient. Lower-level players can receive high-level troops, donation cooldowns are shorter, and resource rewards are greater. Over time, the extra loot and faster troop support significantly boost both individual and clan progression.

Clash of Clans Clan Wars

Clash of Clans clan wars are one of the most competitive and rewarding features in Clash of Clans. They pit two clans against each other in structured battles, testing coordination, attack skill, and strategic planning. Wars provide loot, Clan XP, and a chance to prove your clan’s strength against opponents of similar capability.

How Wars Are Started and Matched

Starting a war requires at least 10 eligible members. Only the leader or co-leaders can initiate the search. The number of participants must be chosen from set sizes such as 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40, or 50. Once the search begins, no changes can be made to the roster.

The game’s matchmaking system looks for another clan with a comparable overall strength, factoring in base upgrades, troop levels, and historical war performance. This helps ensure that wars are competitive and balanced, even for smaller or newer clans.

War Structure

Clan Wars follow a two-day cycle consisting of:

• Preparation Day (23 hours) – Members donate troops to war bases, adjust defensive layouts, and coordinate attack assignments. All war bases use your Home Village structures and upgrades, but resources and trophies remain unaffected.
• Battle Day (24 hours) – Each participant can attack twice, targeting different enemy bases. The best attack result on each base determines the final score, so effective communication is essential.

This structure ensures every clan has time to prepare defenses and plan offense before the decisive battle phase.

Scoring and Victory Conditions

War scoring is based on the number of stars earned:

1. One star for destroying the Town Hall.
2. One star for reaching 50% total damage.
3. One star for 100% destruction.

The clan with the most stars at the end of Battle Day wins. If stars are tied, total destruction percentage decides the winner. If both are identical, the war ends in a draw. This system rewards both precision attacks and consistent damage across all battles.

Rewards

The main incentive for participating in wars is the war win bonus, delivered to your Clan Castle’s treasury:

1. Victory – 100% of the war win bonus.
2. Draw – 40% of the war win bonus.
3. Defeat – 30% of the war win bonus.

Successful attacks also contribute Clan XP, helping the clan level up and unlock new perks. The size of the bonus and XP earned depends on the war’s scale and the strength of the opposing clan.

Friendly Clan Wars

Friendly Clan Wars allow two clans to battle without the pressure of losing loot or gaining/losing Clan XP. The leader or co-leader can invite another clan to a friendly war and select which members will participate. Troops and spells used in attacks are not consumed, except for Clan Castle troops, making this format perfect for practice or testing strategies. While no rewards are earned, the experience gained can be invaluable for improving coordination before real wars.

Clan War Leagues (CWL)

Clash of Clans Clan War Leagues are a competitive tournament mode that runs over seven consecutive days. Instead of traditional matchmaking, clans are placed into groups of eight based on their league standing. Each day, your clan faces a different opponent, with all participating members allowed one attack per war instead of the usual two.

The goal in CWL is to earn as many stars as possible across the entire week. At the end of the tournament, clans are ranked within their group, with the top-performing clans earning promotion to a higher league and the lowest-ranked clans facing demotion.

Participation in CWL offers two main rewards. First, you still receive loot for each war, similar to regular Clan Wars but adjusted for the single-attack format. Second, you earn League Medals, a special currency used to purchase Magic Items, resources, and decorations from the shop. The number of medals you earn depends on your clan’s final placement and your own participation in attacks.

CWL is ideal for competitive clans seeking structured, seasonal competition. It demands consistent performance across all seven days, strong attack planning, and active participation from all selected members.

Clan Games

Clash of Clans clan games are recurring in-game events that let clan members work together to complete challenges and unlock tiered rewards. They become available once you reach Town Hall 6 and provide a mix of resources, Magic Items, and other useful items as prizes.

During a Clan Games event, each player can choose from a rotating list of challenges. These tasks range from winning battles with specific troops, earning stars, destroying certain buildings, or gathering resources.
